only saw him live once, Sydney in the 80s, unforgettable, some young fan ran onto stage, bouncers were about to flatten the guy, Rory shielded him and they sang ShadowPlay together, the entire theatre went bats as the fan sank to his feet at the end of the song and washed Rorys feet with our collective tears of admiration
Good story. Thanks! That sounds like a Buddy Guy concert at the Westbury Music Fair (I still call it that). A young woman got on the stage and started twirling around to his Blues so that her colorful skirt fanned out. She was ushered off a few times and finally stayed off.
dunno if anyone gives a damn but if you're stoned like me during the covid times you can stream pretty much all the latest movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been watching with my gf for the last couple of months xD
i hitchhiked across L.A. four nights in a row to stand in front of him at the Whisky..... prior i saw him at the erie canal soda pop festival so i felt very cosmic about this opportunity in L.A. i spent every penny and every minute to make it happen i went on to play guitar for the next 40 plus years inspired by Him
bluesmain1 I like a video of a Whiskey show and the date was such I would of been there pretty sure if I hadn’t been so wrapped up in San Diego with a band who were “going to make it” so...never saw Rory....one of a handful of regrets in my life. Oh well. Better late than never and my sound system and headsets give me better or as good as live I bet and I can be wowed repeatedly .....the videos are great some of them. Aren’t they?
Hands down, my favorite musician , he was 2 years my senior so I’ve been exposed to years of singer, instrumentalists, songwriters and for me he’s the one who touches my soul ❤
One of the greatest songs all time, ever. A song few even know. I saw Rory Gallagher live twice. Once in Santa Monica, once in Ireland. Brilliant guitarist.
Saw him 3 times in the late 60's and early 70's. First time with Taste, the other 2 as a solo. He came into the pub we were in just after the gig, sweating profusely, and had one pint. He mixed with us as if he knew us all. He was the most humble of men. No superstar, no airs and graces. A tragic end to a wonderful artist and human being.
i was 18 years old when i walked into a record store on the westside of indianapolis and this was playing...my life has never been the same...what a beautiful soul rory was and one of the most amazing musicians this world has ever known...we all love you and miss you....
Absolutely brilliant!! Grew up listening to the double vinyl Irish Tour 74. This was always my favourite track. An amazing, totally underrated guy. RIP Rory, and thank you. 👍
Seeing Rory playing live was religious experience - no video can adequately show the amazing soulful energy Rory would create on stage. I have seen him back in 1974 and to this day it is one of best concerts I remember. Had a chance to talk to him a bit after the show - he was very un-rock-star-like person - as he said in that "Irish Tour" documentary "I do not want to get too famous so I cannot just walk into a pub and have a drink with friends".
I saw Rory many live many times thru 70's, . . . . . . Very happy memories. He certainly was extremely gifted, I'm 62 and have seen many but none better. RIP RG❤
Who ever, ever sounded like Rory? No one. An unworldly soul and sound. Either you get him or you don't. The man in his own world. Not for the "lite music" fan
My m8 introduced me to Rory Gallagher a few years back and i couldnt of been happier to have been brought to his talent, not a day goes by where i listen to a rory gallagher song at least once. What i wud give to have seen him play live with my own eye. RIP Rory
I was listening to Rory in the late 70's...he never got the recognition he deserved...but thanks to RU-vid and other sites the next generation of classic rockers can enjoy and appreciate his singular talent...God rest you Rory!
The style and tones he achieves is otherworldly in it's execution - almost perfect and most definitive. He was a musicians musician and a savant amongst men. He needs some airplay!
Rest in peace, dear Rory. For me the most attractive part of your music has always been the feeling of warmth and honesty in your voice and guitar sound that no one else has. :)) :*
The passion this man put into his music is beyond amazing. IMHO, no real competition as the "best" blues rocker ever (SRV is close) For folks just hearing him for the first time, would recommend "live at the BBC". Beautiful sound quality and first rate performances. Miss him every day.
This is the exact moment where I fall in love with his music, I was 13 now I'm almost 25 and I'm still fond of his music and his personality. I miss him
I am not very into the blues, but Rory is outstanding. I bought the album Irish Tour when I was 16 (two years after the release)and I must have played this number A Million Times now. Rory thank you very much for giving me this extraordinary song. Cheers.
Simply magnificent! The video shooting, the great locale fits beautifully with Rory's song..Rory's playing here is soulful and totally on the mark..Rory's songwriting and fantastic guitar playing in top form here. In America---truly they have no clue how great this guy was!! Thanks to You Tube we can see one of the greatest Rock frontmen ever..Elite live performer.....
I never heard of him until today and I am SUPER into music. I have a deep and varied collection and a wide range of tastes. I can't believe that I missed out on this incredible talent! Until now. I'll make up for lost time because he's truly outstanding.
In the early-mid-70's, myself and a couple of friends worked at a small AM radio station in southern Illinois. That's where I first discovered Rory, through a copy of the "Tattoo" album, which is the studio version of this song. This song, along with "Admit It", were my two favorite songs to play on the air. We only had the one album, but thanks to us, southern Illinois got some exposure to Rory back then. I know I played him a lot. And, that remains my favorite album of his. And, one of my biggest regrets is never getting the chance to see him live. I do love the RU-vid videos, though.
I am thank full to discover Rory, in the early seventies and he has inspired me in my musical journey. To this day when I play his music I still get chills. We shall not see the likes of him again.
All hail de Internet for allowing us to watch and listen this amazing videos. Rory was a poet with his lyrics and with his hands, That Strat produced some of the best "poems" of all times. This is one of them.
Saw first Rory with his group Taste at the Marquee Club in London when I was 18 and a few years later 2 times in Brussels . Unforgettable and unbelievable. Glad to be born in 1950 ....
I can't remember if I have posted on this before, but it bears repeating. My first ever live gig was in 1974 in Belfast when nobody, apart from Horslips, would play there (they couldn't get the insurance for the gear). Rory played every year, the highlight of the year in a bleak music scene. I was blown away. I always really loved this song above some of the louder, faster numbers, it was so sensitive, so blues. Great man, and thanks Rory for making me pick up a guitar in the first place.
Watching these great kind of videoes makes me really sad that we live in a age where music no longer i respected and is treated like a product rather than something made with love feelings and soul. If any real music is made these days im sorry to say its tough to find..
frihaug There was shit music back then as well but did not dominate the mainstream like today. The music you refer to as a product is all about supply and demand. Most people today like that kind of junk music therefore good musicians are not given a break as often.
You are right. Rory was the master of so many styles of guitar; electric blues, delta (acoustic) blues, slide (as good as Johnny Winter), even country and western. An amazing talent.
Saw him in 1984 in Zagreb, Croatia, I was 18 then. One of the most underrated guitar player, my favurite alogside with GOD Jimi. God Bless you Rory wherever you are and thank you for everything
Rorys music is like a drug to me - I need to hear him play EVERY day and when I hear his music I feel so good. Best blues-rock musician EVER!!!!!! This song is my absolute favorite. Blues just can´t get any better...
Rory had a style, a flavour, an energy all his own. you could'nt compare him to anyone else. He was one of a kind. there will never be another Rory Gallagher. Good to know someone like him once lived yet sad his time was short. but what a legacy of music left to remember him by and enjoy forever.
I’ve had a vhs copy of Irish tour since 1985. I bought it at a flea market along with Iron Maiden’s Live after death video. Those 2 VHS tapes got me through my freshman year in high school
Possibly the best version of Rory's classic. The feeling in the playing really comes across, A talking strat?. comes pretty close.Lou Martin adds so much.Sad they have left us but what a legacy! Keep it all alive Gerry he should not be forgotten.
ups, downs and all other times Rory seems to have a song to keep us us going,,,, and he's one of us too!!! We're blessed & so fortunate!!! Thanks a million Rory!!!
this is the first time i listen to him.... my friend gave me this link.... nothing much to say... his music speaks for him.... you can feel his soul through this song.... great!!!
Why Rory Gallagher is my idol: On a tribute video to SRV, Eric Clapton stated that while playing, Stevie Ray never had to stop to think what he was going to play next, because "the music just flowed through him". I think the same applies to Rory: he just seemed to be an unstoppable force on stage, seemingly effortlessly weaving excellent blues solos together. On top of that, he was a great singer, terrific songwriter, wonderful showman and from what I've seen, an all-round stand-up guy.
Saw him 3 times in Chicago , He took my album from me at the Park West during the show, when the show ended I jumped on the stage to retrieve it which I did , later on that night I got it signed by Rory , what a humble and great man he was !!
I've only recently gotten into Rory's stuff 'cos my band have covered "Follow Me", but this song makes me happy and sad at the same time.. beautiful. A legend and a great guy as well, by all accounts. Makes me proud to be Irish.
