I'm 65 and have enjoyed a happy life but at 17 I was in Southend Kursaal mesmerized by Rory when the gig was stopped - they'd had a call saying there was a bomb in the building. This being the 70s it was believable. Rory left the stage -people stamped their feet and shouted for more until Rory came back on, said 'oh fuck it' and carried on playing. I remember thinking, if this is it, what a way to go! Still the best musician I've ever seen, his picture gangs in my wall.
👍Harry welcome to the club of the enlightened….. Gallagher live just killed it. No electric blues artist rocked a crowd like Rory. First heard him live in 1974 in the City Hall in our home town of Cork in Ireland. I was 14 years old and I remember it like it was yesterday. A great artist and a gentleman. Also Gerry, Rod and Lou were awesome sidemen. Still wonderful to know that people are still discovering Rory to this day. Gone but never forgotten…. RIP Rory.
Saw Rory in Glasgow at the Greens Playhouse, across the Road from the now gone Apollo, many, many ,moons ago. He liked a Drink and very kindly threw a few Cans of Tennents Lager into the Audience just to help the Vibe along, sadly missed along with Phil Lynott
In the PARIS version of this,Rory actually seemed to have half of the audience on stage with him and, eventually,he climbed onto the stacks of equipment to be seen on the stage:)
From the "Live in Europe" album 1972, this is a great cover of William Harris's 1928 song. Multiple instrumentalist, songwriter, and bandleader Rory was one talented guitarist who unfortunately died at 47 after a liver transplant. He sold over 30 million albums. This is a stupendous version, rocking guitars, great slide guitar, piano supreme, and the drums reminded me of Gene Krupa. Such groovy entertainment, you cannot sit still listening to this masterpiece.I saw you grooving along Harri. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Miss Blondie. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Thanks for that and it is my biggest musical regret that I never saw Rory and I have no excuse as I started to go to London Gigs in 1971, aged 17, so my loss and then the World's loss as we all said a premature goodbye to a great Man and Musician. Rory. R.I.P.
I had the pleasure of seeing Rory live at the whiskey a-go-go in Hollywood California in about 1973 best concert I've ever been to. Became a fan for life that night
The greatest of all time for me. So fortunate to see him live twice in Australia. Still rate as the two best concerts I've ever been to - unforgettable. Still sadly missed.
You have to take into account as well that Bullfrog Blues wasn’t actually included in the original broadcast. They new the show was over on TV but just kept going for the live audience in the theater. BTW, the second “g” In Gallagher is silent. Pronounced Galla-her
That was outstanding, I usually dislike music like this; played over these chords as it’s almost always staid, repetitive and uninspiring. However, the inventiveness of these musicians floored me. There were countless snippets of musicality, that I have never heard played in this context before, i.e.over these chord sequences; and I have been listening to all types of music incessantly since I was seven years of age [55 years ago]. Sure there has been quite a few performances I’ve heard in this style thru the years that were as astonishingly passionate & inventive. Alas , performances like this are as rare as hen teeth. I love it when I’m reenergised, rejuvenated with a style that usually leaves me slightly cold as I’ve heard it all before. Thank You, Rory & band for electrifying my ears.
his style , fashion on the act stage .... pffhhhhh , very awesome !!! no need to many attributes or accecories , also the sound by his old fender, magical & misery sound .... truly he's real rocker ✌️🤘🤘🤘😎, 🌹... ☕☕ ? 😊
I had the honour of seeing Rory live when I was 14 years old in a small venue in Ayr. Scotland. Jim Hendrix was once asked in an Interview what it felt like to be the greatest guitarist in the world and his reply was " I don't know, why don't you ask Rory Gallagher" enough said
Will never tire of listening to and watching Rory. I have most of the vinyl, all the CDs and DVDs but thank you RU-vid for the incredibly rich seam of Rory's live concerts.
First time I heard of Rory is when I saw him live in 1976 as one of 3 openers for Jethro Tull at the LA Colossium. He basically did that... rocked for at least two solid hours. One of a kind.
Thank you Miss Blondie. Thank you Harri. Had to stop the vid in the solos portion to give the diabetic dog supper and her needle. Thought, Well, will I be able to get back into it?? Hah! No problem. A buddy of mine saw Rory here and still raves about it. Gone too soon! Thanks!
@waltw4537 Fair play, that's the best reason for stopping a solo I've ever heard. We have to look after our furry friends 🙂. @missblondie2393 Great request👍. FYI MerchantOfAlba will be doing a reaction to my request of a little ditty called 'Shin Kicker' (Montreux 1979) in the next week or so. They've never heard Rory so you might want to keep an eye out for that 😉
@@thewildgoose7467 Harri actually did my request to Shin Kicker several months back I'm with you Rory must be shared with as many as possible Honestly I only learned about him just a few years ago I like to think I know the true greats I can't believe I didn't know Rory's incredible work Now I'm obsessed I'll look out for your request from the other reactor And our furry buddies are the best reason to pause Enjoy your evening 💜✌️🇮🇪🎵🎸🎶
@@missblondie2393 I think I've seen all of Harri's RG reactions, including your requests. And to let you in on a little secret, I also have come to appreciate Rory's music only recently? But worse still, I was born and raised in Ireland AND was big into music at the same time he was gigging? However for some reason I didn't think his music was to my taste back then as I was more into the more laid back sounds of Pink Floyd and Yes and also groups like The Clash so I didn't really check out his music properly. My bad, as I missed out on getting to see him live unfortunately although living in Ireland I would've had plenty of opportunities. Another band that were around at the same time which I had no interest in were Rush, yet just like Rory in recent years they have become another one of my favorites. I guess it's like that Joni Mitchell line in Big Yellow Taxi, that "you don't know what you've got till it's gone"? Anyways have a good evening, and watch out for that "Shin Kicker" reaction😊
This is some of the greatest musicians that's ever lived in my opinion . Now this was when music was music and what you saw is exactly what you got. Undeniable Some of the best
Yooooo, now this performance by Rory Gallagher is on fire🔥 Miss B. You submitted another great one once again. This is Rory and his band running on all cylinders, captured in this video. 👏Harri, always up to the task, your review was spot-on.
Seen Rory at the Glasgow Apollo and he finished his set with this number hence the solos, absolutely mesmerising concert, what a musician and showman, much loved much missed. Great video Harri, well done Sir.
You're so fortunate having seen him live It's only 3 years that was introduced to Rory and he's become my top 3 guitarist I definitely was born in the wrong decade 🎶✌️🎶🎸
@@johnianknox1629 while I'm no youngster for sure I was only about 6 Us Generation Xers were around for the greats just too young to see them live Music and Peace Always 🎵✌️🎶
@missblondie2393 lovely comment Miss, OK you've sussed me out as an old hippie, here's who I've seen all in the 70's. Elton John, The Eagles, Neil Young, Deep Purple, Bad Company, The Stones, Nazareth, Status Quo, but my GOAT is Free, my biggest regret was not seeing them live, I had tickets to see them at the Glasgow Kelvin Hall in 1970 but it got cancelled while standing in the queue to get in. Take care Sweetie.
@@johnianknox1629 oh you're no old hippie, you have all the great memories of seeing the greats It's a gift Music is ageless, I just got my son into Rory and his friend a guitarist is blown away too Generation Z is opening up and starting to love Classic Rock (when not playing on the phone 😉) Enjoy your evening
Immensely fun watching you catch the full force of the magic on your first listen. This is one of the very best versions I've ever come across. All the boys are at absolutely peak power!
Loved Rory and his music, saw him a few times what great concerts, live in Europe album was my introduction to him. What a 3 piece band. Left us far too soon.
I was blessed. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 East Tennessee State University (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) Rory Gallagher - ZZ Top 4 dollars It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, Billy Gibbons and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry
Yes, this was the Rory alltime favourite, mostly played as the first encore in his legendary live concerts in these days. Everybody loved him for that one and his energy and his attitude to remain modestly. „Did you ever! „ was the question everyone in the audience was looking forward to. And after that he gave a thirty minute minimum encore. Irish guitar legend - gone way too early, but still alive in our hearts.
I literally think of my guitar playing learning inspiration as before and after hearing Rory..in fact, maybe even my life 😂before and after Gallagher..i feel literally Blessed to have found him for my self !❤
It was an amazing show, something from the Midnight Special, they wanted to do it and did it, you also need to be able to get a standing ovation! Bravo Rory and team! 👋👋👋
I am lucky enough to have seen Rory Gallagher live way back in 1981 in Southampton. No band ever that I've seen has come close to someone really enjoying themselves and cutting loose live as Rory did.
Nice to see another Rory reaction. There really was/is no one else like Rory - on another level altogether. I've seen most of the top bands from that era and no one came close to seeing Rory perform live. He was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist: electric/acoustic guitar, mandolin, harmonica, electric sitar, alto sax and also an outstanding songwriter with a catalogue that embraced blues, rock, folk, jazz and a bit of funk. His first band, Taste (1966-1970), was a ground-breaking trio which you might want to check out, I suggest from their first eponymous album: Blister on the Moon, Born on the Wrong Side of Time, Catfish and from their 2nd album On the Boards: What's Going On, Morning Sun, I'll Remember. Anyway, thanks for an excellent request Miss Blondie and a great reaction, Harri. Keep on...
WOW you got to see him live..Incredible I'm lucky my guitar loving friend turned me on to Rory a few years ago and I can't get enough So talented and his heart and soul comes through Glad you enjoyed it 🎶💜🎵✌️
