There's more than one annual festival. I think there's one in Cork, but there's also, weirdly, one in Nantwich, Cheshire, England. Fortunately, although I'm Northern Irish, Nantwich is 20 miles from where I now live.

Thank you for a Rory reaction! As clearly exhausted as he was, Rory came out and played two encores after this song. I highly recommend that you watch the opener to this same show with the song "Shin Kicker" to give you an idea of the energy he put into his performances from beginning to end. While I think this video is popular for how kinetic it is, I don't believe it's representative of the depth of Rory as a performer. He was a brilliant natural multi-instrumentalist - electric & acoustic, slide & pickin' guitar, mandolin, harmonica, electric sitar, saxophone with an extensive and diverse catalogue of music. He was a blues master and his rock 'n roll was purely full-tilt. His performance of "All Around Man" from the Old Grey Whistle Test show is a must see, and full of surprises. Also, suggest "A Million Miles Away" from the Irish Tour '74 film, a soul-stirring mood piece. Anyway, I hope this is a beginning for you to experience Rory Gallagher. Keep on... you won't be disappointed.

Nice one Nora, always see your name popping up on these reaction videos. My older brother was a big Rory fan when I was a kid and as my brother was my hero I liked anything he liked, I shared a room with him and there were two pictures on the walls, rory and Che Guevara. I don’t care what anyone says, rory was a far better musician than Che! It’s the duty of every Irish person to introduce Rory to people around the world. The best guitar player you probably haven’t heard of

The GMan was in my humble opinion No 1. I saw him in concert in the 70s and 80s and he gave everything. He played as if it was going to be his last gig every time. He left us far too early but he left us some great music so it’s up to us fans out there to keep spreading the word. Rest easy Rory.

I was blessed and honored to see Rory in ‘82 at a small club in San Francisco (The Stone) and while waiting in line to get in, a station wagon pulls up in front of the club and out comes Rory and his long time bass player Gerry and start unloading their gear. Me and my bestie at the time jump over and start to help and Gerry said something like “aw, you guys are the best” and started handing us equipment. That’s the kind of guys they were. So appreciative of their fans and so unaffected by fame and that’s why people love Rory. Just a class act who could play the crap out of his Strat. Fender guitar issued a commemorative edition that’s as beat up as Rory’s. RIP Rory ❤❤

I don't see another comment on this, but I think when the gain is turned up to its max, the guitar strings will vibrate with whatever sounds are in close proximity, making all kinds of noises and sounds. The bass guitar and drums were still playing, and that would also vibrate the stage - thus causing the guitar to appear to be playing itself. You can sure see some similarities between him and Hendrix. Thanks for the video.

I never saw Rory solo but saw Taste half a dozen times including at the IOW in 1970., he was a force of nature. Sometimes you could see fear and terror in the eyes of his bandmates because they had no idea what he was going to do next, they just had to do their best in following his lead. That beat up guitar, that's how I felt after watching Taste live. Extraordinary guitarist and vocalist that often doesn't get the love he deserves, taken too soon RIP Rory.

Thanks for this, Kel N' Rich! Welcome to the Rory club! Rory's the greatest of all time in my book. Even Ritchie Blackmore said he's the most natural talented player he ever saw, and he toured with Rory when he was in Deep Purple and Rainbow in the 70s. His command over the instrument is unreal, his tone is unmatched and he never played the same song in the same way twice, always changed something. He almost never looks at his guitar while doing those insane mostly improvised solos, and his guitar tone goes from heavy punch to almost violin like when he wants. It's truly mind-blowing. You need to get the Irish Tour '74, The Montreux and Rockpalast Box Sets and Rock Goes To College '79(you should react to Do You Read Me and Mississippi Sheiks(killer slide guitar here) from that one, it will leave you floored). After watching more of him you'll come to my conclusion as well :))) He's in a class of his own.

Nice one! Never saw him live, alas, but they used to play this at Rock Disco in town I used to frequent as a youth in the 80s. Never failed to fill the dancefloor with headbangers and air guitar virtuosos rocking out like their lives depended on it. The man's a frickin' legend among those who know. Welcome to the club. As to how he was getting that sound from the apparently discarded guitar, I can only suppose it was a combination of pedal effects and feedback. Secrets of the Guitar Masters I guess. Another in this vein you might like to check out is "Cherry Red" by the Groundhogs. Them I did get to see live on a couple of occasions. Lead guitarist Tony McPhee has to be one of the sweatiest men I've ever seen, but the sounds he could wring out of that well worn Gibson SG were like nothing on earth.

Watch Irish Tour the movie, Montreux in 1977 , and Taste at IOW 1970. Each performance shows his energy and skillful playing. He would always connect with the audience. Irish Tour shows him returning to the guitar shop where he bought that infamous Stratocaster. Joe Bonamassa was a huge fan and I saw him play Rorys strat, that Donald Gallagher his brother, had lent him. Not as well as Rory I might add.

Rory, although not as well known as most of the usual names mentioned when talking about the greatest guitarists in Rock/Blues history, his fellow rock guitarists all knew him, and how great he was. I'm talking about quotes from guys like Pete Townsend of The Who, Jimi Hendrix, who said "Rory is the greatest guitarist that nobody outside Ireland, or the UK, have never heard of. He's in many people's top 3 of all time. My top 3 are Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Winter, and Rory Gallagher. Rory wasn't really playing for the money, or fame, he loved playing in small intimate venues, where he, and his audience were very close, and Rory could interact with people in the crowd. This Irish Rocker is one of the greats.

My first rock show in '73, Rory opening for ZZ Top about 2 months before the Tres Hombres release. Blues Rock, Slide Guitar nut ever since... RIP Rory and Ted. Thank You! (keep rockin, Gerry!)

Lets all give a hand to the rythm section who kept the whole song together. My friend is a top notch guitarist and he always feels safest to play when drummer and bassist can keep the song going on. This gives more freedom to the fireworks from guitar ;)

Saw him two nights in a row at Chestnut Cabaret in Philly. Went to happy hour on Friday to buy tickets for Saturday and was able to stay for the Friday show. Rory blew the doors off the place!

Had the pleasure of seeing Rory and the band live many times when I lived in the UK, and travelled over to Ireland about 5 yrs ago for his tribute festival. All three of them are amazing musicians. You say they are a Cork band, but Rory was born in Ballyshannon, bizarrely at the Rock hospital there.

I think you’ve been living under a rock if you’ve never heard of Rory. Not so big in the states maybe but a very popular artist despite shunning the limelight. Slash, Brain May and Johnny Marr are all big fans amongst many. The Hendrix quote is urban legend. One of the best ever for sure. The Rory Gallagher custom shop model is one of Fender’s best selling. They even have a meeting room named after him - he’s far from unknown guys.

There's a story after playing a concert, when he returned to his hotel , he got up stage and played with the hotel band, And his two band mates joined him as the hotel musicians couldn't keep up with him, He played for a couple of hours. I think he was touring with Rush. He just loved playing

Saw him live in the mid 80s. Mindblown. Try out «do you read me» live 1979. «tattooed lady» live 1977 rockpalast. Also the shadow Play version from lorient 1994 with a closing solo to die for!

Rory was good friends with Gary Moore back in Northern Ireland in the late 60s. Rory was amazed by this kid, a couple of years younger, that basically blew everybody off stage. They used to use each others gear for backup. And to no ones surprise, during the 70s and forward, Gary was to become the best of them all.

I still keep looking for the extra 2 fingers on his left hand. Not just a great guitarist, but such s humble beautiful soul.
