The claim that he has the best defensive stats in Europe is laughable when you compare him to the centre backs of Manchester City Arsenal and even silva at 39 and playing in a different defensive unit in nearly every game has better stats in defence and attacking. VVD somehow has no defensive errors leading to goals that’s a joke seeing how he was at fault for 2 goals against Arsenal and Bournemouth. He’s also got favourable decisions from VAR which he has got away with blatant penalties 2 against Chelsea 1 against Brighton and Crystal Palace. The only thing he has better stats in is aerial battles won which he is not likely to lose that many seeing as the majority of teams that are not playing target men and he is genuinely head and shoulders above the strikers and the fact he has struggled against the likes of Giroud should prove how overrated he is. He has been consistently caught out with the amount of one on ones that has been saved by both goalkeepers this season and even the worst teams in the league has been able to get in behind him a number of times Burnley Nottingham Forest Luton Brighton Everton and Bournemouth. Chelsea in the cup final and he was absolutely ruined by Arsenal. How can he be on a list for player of the year when you think about the players who have made a difference in team and with better defensive numbers than him. The reality comes to the amount of delusional fans who think he’s the best defender in premier league history when he doesn’t even get in the top 20 list of players who played in a much harder era against some of the best attackers in the leagues history that would’ve definitely dominated him.
