It doesn't matter how much McIlroy posts now, how he congratulates DeChambeau now online, it will never, never erase the poor sportsmanship he displayed after his loosing the U.S. Open. If he was a real man, a true golf sportsman, he would have been there to extend his hand at the end. I thought this game was suppose to be a "gentleman's" game, showing the due respect even in loosing. You saw what DeChambeau did after he won, yet there was still a shot needing to be taken to finish the game. He held his arms out, calling for silence for Pavon to have the respect he deserved to make the shot. I don't have much respect for McIlroy anymore. His wants have overtaken the sportsmanship and respect which is expected at the highest level of the game.

Agree with this 100%. Look at Bryson after loosing the PGA Championship, he found Schauffele and congratulated him. Bryson has always been a class act rain or shine. Glad people are starting to like him. He was the outcast for awhile. I always rooted for him.

I don’t have an issue with Rory not speaking to the media. The issue is that he ran off without congratulating Bryson. I think that truly showed poor sportsmanship.

@@twyscape Completely agree. It's rare when other players wait around to congratulate other players for winning. Poor sportsmanship had nothing to do with Rory leaving and not shaking Bryson's hand. If his playing partner for the day doesn't shake his hand, that's different.

When Bryson was battling for the lead at the PGA Championship and Shauffle won, Bryson shook his hand and congradulated him like a gentleman, when Rory was battling Bryson at the US Open and Bryson won, Rory ran away and sped off like a spoiled brat.

Why would he. They didn't play together. Rarely do players that finish before the winner wait around to congratulate them. Typically only if they are very close friends and finished fairly soon before them.

Not a huge fan of Rory but I empathize with his decision to leave. It's one thing to be three down and not be able to catch up but he was 2 up with 5 to play and couldn't hold on. Had to be tough on his psyche.

I can't begin to imagine the emotions that Rory was feeling seeing that win slip away after so long waiting and such a good opportunity. I am not as worried that he couldn't front the media, but he should have stayed to congratulate Bryson. However, he is also paid megabucks and is one of the faces of the PGA, for that alone he really should have fronted the media.

Can't imagine what Rory was going thru missing his chance by blowing those short putts. He should have been smart enough to realize that if not for the sake of sportsmanship - it would have been incredible PR media - and great for his image - if he went out of his way to congratulate Bryson. There's only one reason why he should have stayed and congratulated Bryon and chat with the media. PIP "is designed to reward members who - through objective measurement criteria - are shown to generate the most positive interest in the PGA Tour." In essence, the scheme is there to reward the biggest names in the game for being just that - the biggest names. He's been paid a boatload for that honor. Give something back to the fans Rory.

OK ! This was NOT Rory at his finest moment, however, with his personal life issues going on, we don’t know what demons he was trying to fight off. Rory needed Sir Nick Faldo whispering in his ear like he did with Greg Norman at the Masters collapse. Players don’t always wait around to congratulate the winner unless it is a buddy of theirs. I am sure Rory regrets his decision to snub the media, but again, we are NOT in his shoes.

I don't like that Rory left without congratulating Bryson, but he owes the media nothing. It always cracks me up how thin the media's skin is. They can write whatever they want about anybody, but the moment anyone crosses the media, we get all the blathering about disappointment and responsibility and blah blah blah. An old Boomer yacking in his studio about it just makes it more insufferable. Not a good look for Rory though leaving without shaking Bryson's hand.

I'm sure there's a different type of feeling that comes with how the loss came about. When Bryson finished 2nd at the PGA, he played great and in the end got beat by Xander. You're still feeing really good even though it didn't go your way. Rory flat out gave this one away and I'm sure that hurt 100x more than if he had shot 65 and Bryson shot 67. But he should have hung around to give a quick handshake and a congrats before hitting the road. I don't care if he talked to the media or not.

@@solson223 Since when does a player go back out on the course to congratulate the winner? Mostly never other than golfers who they are close friends with. Scottie would have went to the locker room after signing his scorecard, as do 99% of other players at any given tournament. The only reason Bryson congratulated Xander was because he was on the range warming up and walked back that way after Xander won.

Rory has had a chip on his shoulder for a while. He saw the creation of LIV as his opportunity to gain favor with PGA fans and players. Quite frankly, he doesn’t seem like he has the mental or emotional IQ to be able to navigate the waters he’s put himself in. He’s in over his head politically and the more he cries about LIV, the more pressure he puts on himself to play well. He has demonstrated he cannot manage his game and his political stance on LIV at the same time.

World is not black and white. Rory does not have to do anything he is not contractually obligated to do. I can understand him. I would have probably done the same. Sure, the top players may be expected more than an ordinary citizen. But what we choose to do is up to each of us. I am certain Bryson does not hold a grudge.

Disagree. PGA screwed over Rory through all the LIV drama. Rory should've gone to LIV because he would still have been able to play the majors. He owes PGA nothing.
