I still don’t understand why Rory went for that green in 2 on 18. Lay up, hit into the green for 3 and knock it close, gives yourself a birdie putt to win it, worst case you make a par and join a play off to win. That’s the play

Do you even play golf? Do you have any idea how hard it is to make the "smart" play just playing with your buddies? We all want the hero shots. Now imagine you're a tour player who can hit almost every shot on command. The "smart" play seems like you're giving up strokes, and it's very hard to take the ego out of it. It's really easy to sit in front of a keyboard and say what the right play is with hindsight, but when you're actually in a tournament, everything is on the line, it's actually extremely difficult to make the right decision sometimes.
