The dance piece is an ode to the title of the song ‘Saudadé/Saude’ a Portuguese word that describes a state of longing or yearning for something that is absent. Filmed off the rocky wild coast of Sintra, Portugal, the dance is in conversation with the elements: a relentlessly beating sun, fallen colossal rocks and the sea. Tara Jerome-Bernabé’s movements intermesh with the landscape, trying to find what is absent from within.

Tara Jerome-Bernabé is a multidisciplinary artist and musician. Their work incorporates compositions, experimental sonics and poetry into performance art pieces. An eminent part of their compositions and soundscapes features instruments that they make such as Bass ocarinas, Balafon and Bronze cast Gongs. Their performances feature costumes fashioned out of leaves, seeds, pods, sticks, reeds and other workable organic matter. From their paintings, Bernabé experiments with homemade pigment from coffee to mud and works with various scents to breathe life into the 2D work. Tara places an emphasis on discovering self- autonomy within the laws of the natural world, believing that despite modernization, much of the ancestral knowledge is still inherent and can be tapped into from within. Her works are made to enchant the audience back into this discovery of self and the world around them.

Benjamin Black is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist and mixed-media artist based in Stockholm and London. He has recorded and toured internationally with artists such as Arc De Soleil and Alba August, composed music for dance, theatre and circus and has a background in dance and physical theatre. He has studied extensively around the world (Cuba, India, UK, Sweden) and has a special interest in genre-defying, inter-disciplinary work.
