I love the idea of me being "a map of them all" -- not only by heritage, but also because we are made of everyone we love and the marks we leave on them. If your sister says you have a restless soul, that's who you are to her. I have no Irish or English in my blood at all, and I'm also not told I have traveling feet etc., but it's amazing how this song is so much about Rose Betts, and at the same time it's about everyone.
I have no Irish blood either, but I DO have traveling feet--as I've been a nomad since 2016. Lovely to find a piece of myself in this song. We're all one...🥰
I have the Irish eyes and English hair, but I'm the rooted tree that the travelers come home to. I think we can all find a little of ourselves in this song.
@@alphachad4631 •Heritage has so much less to do with skin color than it does Family Tradition; Old World ways we keep, and teach our children, and give freely; and sharing our experiences to inform others about our attitudes in an inclusive manner. Just sayin.
My amma says my gaze holds a tale, Indian grace, Indian grace, My amma says my gaze holds a tale, They gleam like stars beneath the night's veil, Never shining brighter than when tears prevail. My appa says my locks are ebony, Ebony hair, ebony hair, Dark as the night, a mystery, Like the shadowed woods where peacocks roam, Or the jasmine scent in our ancestral home. I'm a canvas of heritage, stories of yore, One foot in tradition and one in explore, Every step, every dream, I reach for the sky, I'm a tapestry of them all with my Indian eyes. My ajji says my feet crave the unknown, Wandering feet, wandering feet, Princess slippers won't claim my own, Dancing to the rhythm of ancient tales, My wandering feet always unveil trails. My akka says I harbor a free-spirited core, Free spirit, free spirit, Easy to feel, but not to store, Like a melody carried by the breeze, I weave through your thoughts, then gracefully cease. I'm a canvas of heritage, stories of yore, One foot in tradition and one in explore, Every step, every dream, I reach for the sky, I'm a tapestry of them all with my Indian eyes. My amma says my gaze holds a tale, Indian grace, Indian grace, My amma says my gaze holds a tale, They shimmer like the hues of a vibrant saree, 'Cause I'm a tapestry of stories, with my Indian eyes.
This song makes me SO proud of my Irish/English roots. One of the best things I ever did was take a DNA test to figure out where my ancestors came from. Now I get to learn about and celebrate them.
Irish Eyes is my 7 week old baby's favourite song! His name is Patrick and we're Australian but we listen to Irish folk to remind us of our ancestry. Thanks for the poetic lyrics and your gorgeously piercing, liquid gold voice! ❤
My mother says I have Irish eyes Irish eyes, Irish eyes My mother says I have Irish eyes They go ever so blue under stormy skies But they're never so blue as when I let them cry My father says I have English hair English hair, English hair Brown like the bark of an oak somewhere Like the bed of a lake where the hemlock grows Like the thorn in the stem of an English rose I'm a map of the world and the ones before One foot in sea and one on shore Every step, every hope flung high I'm a map of them all with my Irish eyes My nana says I have travelling feet Travelling feet, travelling feet Slippers for princesses don't fit me But I dance to my own drum bright and bold And my travelling feet always get me home My sister says I've a restless soul Restless soul, restless soul Easy to catch, but I'm hard to hold Like a song on the wind that you caught one day I get under your skin, then I slip away I'm a map of the world and the ones before One foot in sea and one on shore Every step, every hope flung high I'm a map of them all with my Irish eyes My mother says I have Irish eyes Irish eyes, Irish eyes My mother says I have Irish eyes They go ever so blue I'm a map of the world and the ones before One foot in sea and one on shore Every step, every hope flung high I'm a map of them all with my Irish eyes
My friend sent this to me this morning I am 65 years old and Irish descent. This is one of those songs you wish you had written ,it's beautiful and when I can get back to my ukele and guitar practise I going to sing this . Tu Rose just going to see if I can order your album. ❤🎉
This is such a powerful song. I didn't expect it to resonate with me so deeply, I don't even have the words to describe the chills running down my spine or the lift in my soul like thermals beneath a hawk's wings. For me, I have my father's Irish eyes and my mother's English hair. I can't wait to finish learning this song and sing it to them. I just hope I can do justice to the wonderful original and your lilting voice when I do.
Loving all the fan verses! Here's a few more if anyone wants to sing them My baby says I have dreams like plains Dreams like plains, dreams like plains Under endless skies, they dance in the rain Growing wild and free but I'm rooted deep, through flood or fire I'm sure to keep My grandpa says i have skin like clay Skin like clay, skin like clay My pride and my beauty don't wash away Deep like the night, i smile stars Bold like the love that beats in my heart
my darling says I have gaze like woods gaze like woods, gaze like woods strong and sturdy like marching troops trapped yet strong, I shall preserve where I wish to be I shall return
@@tsukkiyosea4126 My mother says I’ve a soul of fire Soul of fire, soul of fire Bright I’ll burn, the rain will tire Of the light I’ve cast on the endless mire.
Always been in love and awe of Celtic culture and music. I am born and raised in NYC but family is Eastern European. This song embodies everything I wanted in a Celtic song- your lyricism is so profound. So happy and thankful you put this out. Much love!! ♥️
@@helvete_ingres4717 No such thing? How? There's literally still celtic languages spoken in Europe. Remnants of celtic culture are kept not only there, but also in regions like Galicia in Spain, where the language was lost. This song may not really be "celtic", but it is inspired by irish folk songs, which are rooted in celtic culture.
@@helvete_ingres4717 I'm from northern Maine and I was raised Irish and Scottish. I was taught to be proud of the countries that my family came from. My mother was born in this country but she spoke Irish Galic because her grandmother was the first generation from both countries and taught her the language. My great Grandma could speak it freely here and not be killed for it. Ever since I was a baby my mother would make sure that I had Irish/ Scottish music around me all the time. She taught me to love my heritage and the culture that we come from even the folk songs.
In spite of my eyes being browner than English hair instead of Irish blue, there's something about this song that calls to me So glad i discovered your music ❤❤❤
This song sounds like what I would of grown up hearing if my family hadn't immigrated to the US in the 1800s. I'm Scotch-Irish and German, so it sounds like all of the folk music of my culture, one that I could've had if my family had kept in touch with their roots.
I absolutely LOVE Rose Betts voice!!! My 5 and 7 year old granddaughters love her so much. Thank you, Rose, for sharing your mellifluous tone with the world. ❤🤍💛💚💙💜
Rose, you may not know this yet but I'm writing this from 5 years in the future. You continued to make this beautiful music and have become one of the top artists in the world. We need so many more people like you and it brings me happiness everyday listening to you. Congratulations on your success and may you continue to grow everyday.
This song calls deep to my soul ❤ I've got the Irish hair and eyes and am very thankful for my Irish roots. Now my beautiful children share the same features ❤
It reminds me of all the things I am, all the ppl I'm made up of, all the shoulders I stand on... that I'm not alone. Even in my failures and mistakes, imperfections, battles, and victories, there were many more generations of failures, mistakes, battles, and victories that came before me that I'll never know. I'm a miracle just being here. It makes me thankful just having the life I have, however broken it is. It's mine ❤
Thank you for your comment. It helped me leave a toxic relationship that would have taken away everything I want my future to be. May you get many goodnesses.
Omg I found the song, this makes me ball every time I hear it because I've lost my mom.... I've no siblings. But it makes me hold my head up even with tears leaking from my soul. Thank you for letting me walk with my ancestors with this song you've spoken to my soul.
Hello Rose! Your unique voice and respectable style are top-notch! So glad I found your RU-vid channel! Very refreshing entertainment. Many thanks to you for sharing your gifts.💐
Love your song!!! It's so great!!! I'm going to use it at my lessons of English to help my students practise pronunciation! Thank you for your wonderful creation! All the best to you, dear Rose! ❤❤❤
I just sent this to my Nana and my Dad, who came to Canada from Ireland during the troubles. Most of our traditions are English, but my Dad and I are currently learning the Irish language (what's left of it) and embracing our Pagan culture. This song resonates so deeply within me. I can feel my ancestors - especially the women who came before me - when I listen to this. Thank you thank you thank you for being you and creating this beautiful song that is having a profound affect on so many 🍀❤️
My GOD I love this so much. The subtle drone note that starts at 00:33 drives me nuts. Then the drums that COMMAND respect and call for adventure! You make me smile so much when I hear your music!
This song is so beautiful. I resonated a lot with it. I was born in Canada(lived in the uk for 5 years) but my father is English and scottish and my mom is Irish, makes me feel close to my heritage and ancestors and sends shivers up my arms ❤
Oh my gosh!! My whole school was singing this song with their own verses!! We all sing this song so loudly!! We all love your music so so much!! Great job in all of your music! You are 💯 awesome! Keep up the great work😊😊
This is the only song that helps my 5-month-old daughter calm down when there is nothing else to soothe her. She loves this song so very much! Thank you so much for sharing your talent ❤
"I'm a map of the world and the one's before; one foot in sea and one on shore". One of my favourite lyrics ever. It shows the song is not just about the ancestry of humans, but also how we were all once fish in the sea.
No song in all its history will ever beat this one. I followed this song to the end and I was so happy with how it turned out that it made me cry. Congratulations Rose! You finished it :D
My mother says I have Slavic eyes Slavic eyes, Slavic eyes Grey like the clouds in the winter skies Like the tide of the sea that never dries Like the tide of the past that never dies
My sweet friend sang this song at the school talent show. It was absolutely beautiful to listen to. She was also very beautiful singing this lovely song 😊
Me, biracial and 2-3 generations removed from the immigrants that brought my family over the ocean: Oh my god I AM a map of the world and the ones before
Not sure about spitting cobras, an vipers and doom, but eye so pure 😍 ❤ , beats the rest of the bs on RU-vid atm, fake country or gangster gangster, or tiktok, than again here I am, 🤔, it make's you think tho.
I’m not biracial, but if you can find a white person that is ethically from there, I probably have heritage from there, yet my family has been in the US for 3 generations as well. Seems like there’s a lot of people like that.
a beautiful song which calls us to remember we are connected to the world and every generation. We are people of one world hopefully we can embody this song so we may know peace
❤❤❤ I have listened to this 100 times so I can learn it to sing to my own little grandchildren. How beautifully you sing it and what a treasure it will be for a family to know.
Ohh I love this so much! My great grandparents are from Ireland ❤ and my others ideas from Scotland England and Wales. Settled in Australia. Beautiful song I love it thank you 😍
I am so happy!! You released this song a day early. The song and your voice is beautiful. I love how the song progresses with the beat and instruments. Going to be listening to this on repeat. Such a catchy song.
Yes I Admiring blue eyes. And beautiful brown hair...I got on the contrary, have cabbage stew eyes and cold white gray hair been from age 20 till old. This tempo is happy and mindlifting. Thank you! The artist singing This is a professional
Rose, not only do you have one of the loveliest names in the English language (being named as a beautiful gift of nature (the rose) but this is a great, wholesome song, proud, not vainly braggadocious, of the UK (Irish +English), and its lyrics themselves are very pretty and have a very catchy, cheery tune paired with them. Well done! Very well done.👍👍
It's been so awesome watching the process with this song, from the little preview you posted to this. Every time you drop something there's a bit more, and just when I think I can't love the song more you do this and I've got chills all over again. Thank you for taking us along on your process. 🖤
I can sing along to this at .6 speed as lullaby to put my baby Heather to sleep. She has my Irish blue eyes and her English mom's brown hair. It's perfect!
Ethereal song. It makes me feel joy for life. This is one of those songs that makes me wish I was a film director bc I could see it working for so many scenes. Well done.
PRECIOUS IRISH ROSE! SO VERY BELOVED, HEART, VOICE & SOUL. THANK YOU FOR STIRRING ME UP LIKE A CUP OF COFFEE. BLEST BE YOUR LIFE FOR MAKING EVERYONE'S BETTER! STAY WONDERFUL! CHEERS!
A modern classic, fully deserves to last forever. Beautifully crafted, builds to a proper climax… I’ve bought Nashville string set just to cover this song… it’s so very very good… and the lyric is every bit as good as the music…
Irish here. This is actually a really good song ngl, has that Irish vibe to it. It’s so slow yet so moving, like anytime I listen to it I can visualize a picture of the Irish landscape and Dublin. Time to play on repeat!
@@writitripathy a very very distant ancestor wasn’t Irish. Think of it like this: If she only had 100 ancestors, then only 5 were not Irish. 5% non-Irish. 95% Irish. Then there is a completely different topic of nationality, in that case it would be a Yes/No question.
