As a kid we use to visit Roseland in the summer when we visited our relatives in New York. We live in Florida. Some of my happiest memories are of this park and Watkins Glen. My relatives lived in Branchport NY. Great memories.
love this. loved going to RP with my family. who remembers the car races in that separate building?. the mini cars and you’d pick which color and watch them race along the track.
Used to swim at the lake as a kid and barely be able to wait knowing we were going to Roseland Park later. From the public park area I could see the skyride and wish the day would go faster.
I was 12 in 1972, we would come to Roseland park via my father's boat often. Spend the day, get back in the boat and head back to the south end of the lake and trailer the boat and head home to arkport NY, fun times
Oh, the Park closed in 1985! The last weekend that it was open was Labor day weekend, which is when I took pics and video. I was thinking that was in 1986..
Thanks for sharing, I loved this place especially the gigantic slides with the burlap sack to ride down on and all the rides and skeeball. Looks like you guys rode there in a Pontiac Catalina Wagon I’m guessing. No seatbelts needed because you were riding in a tank .
I was born in 72 and I remember going to Roseland on family vacations when my brother and I got older. If I remember correctly There was a haunted ride called the gold nugget, you rode on a track in a miner car through tunnels with all this spooky stuff going on. Does anyone else remember that ride.???
Yes, I do! It was about 1976. At one point the car came outside, turned and went down a sharp incline, up again, and then went through another set of doors back into the building. I remember that ride the most!
Yes, I remember Gold Nugget well. I wrote a song based on that ride and Roseland Park. I had so much fun there. The Gold Nugget was designed by Bill Tracy who also created a bunch of other dark rides at many other East Coast amusement parks. His scary art work and special effects stood out and made it so memorable!
Skyliner still runs today at Lakemont Park in Altoona, PA. The station is very recognisable. It's very much an underrated ride, the drop has real whip to it that you wouldn't expect from PTC.
@@FlynBrian Yep, and it still runs the original trains (although they now say "Go Curve" on them since it's right next to the baseball stadium and the mascot will generally take a ride during the game, a unique way to chear the team on) and it also uses the skid breaks it was built with. So basically, it's unchanged from it's Roseland days except for how it's used to cheer on the baseball team. Of course Lakemont is better known for their other coaster, Leap The Dips, which is the world's oldest coaster, dating back to 1902. That being said Skyliner has quite a history too, and it isn't talked about enough. And as someone who currently lives about an hour from the former location of Roseland it was nice to be able to ride their coaster last summer for the first time.
Hi my name is James and we do hiking and biking here in the Finger Lakes region of New York. We are doing a short segment on Roseland amusement park for our next episode and was wondering if I could use some of the footage in our episode April.
