Saw this band open for Slowdive at CBGB April 1994 and really liked them (bought their self-released cassette they were selling at the merch table). Thank you for posting this!
In the early 90s we'd have local band nights at the Vet's Hall in Danville, Ca., east bay suburb of SF. It was a good sized auditorium, and there'd always be 3-4 local high school and bay area bands playing. It was a cool scene. Interestingly, a lot of the bands were echoing what was happening in the UK at the time: Madchester, shoegaze, dream pop, etc. The Rosemarys, who did it best, came through the Vet's Hall twice I think. And if I close my eyes and listen to say Providence, or Collide, or Sparkle, I can still picture them on stage, strobe light slowly flickering, black n' white filmstrip projecting, slowdancing with their silhouettes against a wall of monochrome color. And 30 years later, I can still remember the feeling of what can only be described as being simultaneously awake and dreaming, and in complete ecstasy. The definition of ethereal. Needless to say they made an impression. Their two albums are treasures. Huge thanks for making this one available. If anyone has the power to get them on Spotify, they really deserve it.
Thank you so much for your kind ruminations. Loved it. I also can close my eyes and recall the ethereal quality of The Rosmarys live in Golden Gate Park. It was a magical moment that I treasure!
@@boothvrstudio That sounds amazing. We saw Radiohead at GGP, with Supreme Love Gods, who are another very cool, less known band from the central valley.
Great post. I have a hardcopy of this somewhere. Small correction on the time markers - Providence is already in chorus at at 1:10. I never got to see them live. Instead, I came to them oddly... a friend used to get boxes of new music promo CDs each month from a record label, and he didn't like alternative, so I got all the stuff that sounded like this. :)
