Part one here: • Rosencrantz & Guildens...
Two minor characters from Hamlet get a story told from their point of view. This movie is hilarious. Some people get it, some don't, but personally i'd say it's definitely worth your while. especially if you're a slash fan. maybe that's what's wrong with the people who don't get it... their loss 8P

He looks so happy when he says "Statement", and then jumps back. Gah, Rosencrantz is such a baby!

I love the actor who plays Polonius in this. He constantly has this wonderfully weary, exasperated personality in every scene he's in, as if he's just dying to say, "for Christ's sake Hamlet, you're whole 'insanity' thing is really starting to annoy me."

ROS: Your mother's marriage. GUIL: He slipped in. (Beat.) ROS (lugubriously): His body was still warm. GUIL: So was hers. Hilarious!

Correct. Also Tim Roth responded on instincts by his name Guildenstern. This movie is so deep. I love it.

I love how Rosencrantz keeps almost making these brilliant historical discoveries, then they turn comical.

I love that Rosencrantz is an absolute genius and discovers things before their time but can't proove them hahah

Every time Guildenstern tries to prove something to Rosencrantz, he fails. And it cracks me up!! He is just awesome!!! Thank you soooooo much for uploading this!! I never got to finish watching it. I'm super excited about finding this!!! And in such good quality. You rock!!!

@Cbarretthome I think in the original Hamlet only Claudius confuses them because he doesn't care enough to learn who is who. Tom Stoppard decided to expand on that element to add to their confusion which is a major theme of the play.

Iain Glen gives one of the best performances of Hamlet I've ever seen - so overlooked because of the great Oldman/Roth combo. Stoppard knows his Shakespeare... BTW Does anyone else find it amusing that Rosencrantz is stumbling over the great discovers of science by accident - before they are "discovered"?

in the opening credits they put gary oldman's name before tim roth to distinguish who is who. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Gary oldman and Tim Roth

I think that they have been confused for so long that neither one of them remembers who' who....

@LowSweetChariot well, we actually know from the movie itself which is which. Gertrude (and Hamlet, yet I don't think he identifies the two in the film) is the only one who is able to tell the two apart. It would be difficult to know however if one has never read the play. But I 100% agree with you on adding both characters names to the credits for both actors. That would've made my life complete.

Long-hair and silly is Rosencrantz, short-haired and serious is Guil.

@LowSweetChariot i agree totally, but it's not just that R&G can't figure out who one is who (the first time they introduce themselves, they do it wrong) - it's that they're supposed to be interchangeable... even though they seem to have distinct personalities and one clearly is smarter, they are indistinguishable to everyone else... they are just bit players in the overall world of hamlet.

@mychemicalrelapse really Hamlet's sanity all depends on the performance and interpretation. Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (while it is four hours long if you've seen the extended Return of the King it's about the same time) gives a intelligent performance with all of the material without really deciding if Hamlet is insane or not and gives you the evidence to decide for yourself. plus it includes all of the text so you never have to read it.

@Dayvit78 I wouldn't say one is smarter. Guildenstern is definitely quicker. Rosencrantz is a slower thinker, but he can be rather deep at times. He seems to have an inventive side, too.

Why couldn't they have this guy play Hamlet in the actual movie... I think he would have done a better job that Gibson. Besides, Gibson is/was too old to play Hamlet.

@Elanel Exactly! And of course, Guildenstern doesn't even care, and thinks Rosencrantz is just an idiot horsing around.
