Rosie O'Donnell shares on the If These Ovaries podcast. She talks about that coming out scene in "A League of Their Own" and how Penny Marshall said, "This is not a gay thing!"
Don't get me wrong--loved A League of Their Own but I did not take that as a coming out statement. I played with green army men and trucks. I also played baseball with the other kids in my neighborhood. It didn't necessarily mean I was gay or trans. I was just a very physically active kid and there weren't any little girls my age to play with in my neighborhood.
Hi, I wish Rosie would have Her own Channel. She would have so many Subscribers. She could talk to Broadway Actors & She could give the money RU-vid would give Her to that Broadway actors fund. OH & Penny Liked the Mens.😷Stay Safe🤗Hugs🐽Warm Fuzzy✌Peace❤Love, Sheryl
Really??? I didn’t pick up on that. I just figured she meant she was different cause she was a tomboy. It was a character she was supposed to be playing. Not her own lesbian preference.
Hey Rosie, I'd like to send you a present since you've given me so many laughs, joy , etc. ( 2 mushy??, Nah) , but I don't want you to open it until Christmas. It's a Christmas song I wrote in the 70s, had it demoed in Nashville hiring a couple of singers from Opryland for a 3 hour gig on Saturday ( I missed a Larry Gatlin concert to do it, yikes). Where can I send it???
That' wasn't my take on the scene at all. I took it as a moment when she realizes that she's in a bad relationship and deserves more in life and decides to cut ties with her husband. Being athletic and able to play a sport well does not make a person gay. I never looked at it as a gay thing.
But it resonates to women who were gay, too. And obviously to the gay woman who played the scene. The beauty of it is different women coming from different places of not feeling like they fit in can relate to it.
Though I’m not straight these characters were based on real people, and clearly many of the characters were straight women so was Rosie sure the woman she was portraying was gay? There are plenty of tomboy straight girls out there
And the "tomboy straight girls" were represented by every other girl on the team; they're hardly being ignored. And the characters weren't based that strongly on individual life stories...but even if they were, there were plenty of gay gals Doris could've been standing in for. So let us have a little subtextual inclusion. lol
Oh, I would love for my children to interact with her!! Two of my children are gay and huge Trump supporters. I think God every day that my children have a mind of their own and do not follow these over the top individuals, who cannot even explain, or define what a woman is. America will be on the right track as soon as Trump gets back into office. Are economy will be so much better and life in general will be incredible with him back in office.
