Frank Rosolino and Carl Fontana perform "Wave". Non-released music from the 1978 Vancouver concert. Elmer Gill - piano Torban Oxbol - bass George Ursan - drums
I was privileged to accompany these two greats in their last ever performance together when they were guest artists with the University of Texas at Arlington jazz orchestra . They had just finished their August ‘78 live recording session in Vancouver (Trombone Heaven). Live or studio- it made no difference. These guys were musical phenomenons of nature.
The Dynamic Duo! Alas, Frank was on his last solo journey that year. Carl would keep the flame burning for awhile thereafter. We miss you guys! Thanks for posting!
As a trombonist myself I don't know whether to be inspired or depressed by these two wonderful masters. all I know is that I continue to be astounded by their beauty, facility and uniqueness. I met and played with Carl (albeit in the orchestra) and he was the model of humility.
Bryan-- I don't know you but don't ever be "depressed" about these guys. Wherever you play your music you give a gift to those listening. They may never hear these guys!
Hi Bryan Remember you back then in SNO trombone section at Glasgow City Halls and blowing with Bobby Deans big band at the Bier Keller.on Saturdays. Happy days!
Bravo Bravo " great post ! I got to meet Rosolino . My pop and a few other 1st call musicians set up a fake new student appointment and did an intervention on thier friend . It was in 72-74 or so . I remember how he talked so jazzy .lol. It was so sad how he went ........ R.I.P. Frank .. .May Carl rest in peace too ! I seen him play with Aldcroft
Frank e Carl dois GIGANTES do jazz, infelismente neste ano de 1978 Frank nos deixou e Carl mais rescentemente também se foi,mas nos ficou o exemplo de seus talentos,
I too was able to sit in with Fontana and Al Balletto (alto) back in the ‘60’s in Jackson, MS. He was always my favorite ‘bone player. Really a regular guy, nice night of music....
Gerald Nichols his singing isn’t the best but the album of him singing is actaully a really good one, his singing lines are great and the whole album is swinging
