Jim needs to come back, honestly. He made some of my favorite theme's growing up like Orton's (voices), Edge, Drew McIntyre (broken dreams), etc. He knew what making a wrestler's theme meant to him and it really isn't the same anymore.
I used to play Smackdown vs Raw 2010 on my PSP as a kid. During the game itself, music keeps playing that's either the show Theme or the Theme of a wrestler and they were all distinct and memorable. Even to this day, the likes of The Fire Burns (CM Punk theme), Break the Walls down (Jericho), Broken Dreams (Drew McIntyre), I Came to Play (The Miz), Let it Roll (Smackdown) and even Get On Your Knees (Jack Swagger). And the list keeps going
This is why WWE really got ahead of the other companies main stream wise. Not due to how good the characters were, but how good WWE’s marketing tactics were to promote the characters and overall company. Also it’s been really cool to watch Ross learn so much over time. It’s a unique experience to see a RU-vidr low key start out as a casual fan and become a more and more hardcore fan.
Fun fact: Jim Johnston's last theme he made was Baron Corbin's I Bring The Darkness with vocals done by Tommy Vext in 2017 (before he became King Corbin)
I remember listening to Eddie Guerrero's "gangsta lean" theme and Mark Henry's "somebody's gonna get it" theme all the time when I was a kid. 2 of my favorite theme songs of all time.
What might be cool is there's a playlist of 9-10 videos of "Jim Johnston - Behind the Theme" where he talks about how he came up with those classic themes. Maybe work checking out.
John Cena was well known in Boston underground hip hop and that video they showed was with MURS (a video exclusive for H.U.S.T.L.E. - not on the album).
I LOVE Jim's era of WWE's music.... makes ME miss my childhood then. I also read somewhere Randy hated his old theme song "Burn in My light" and wanted to change it.
To me, from 2000 to 2012 is where a lot of my favorite wrestling themes come from and I think that’s when they had the best themes ETA: also didn’t know Method Man did a song for Rock! How did this escape my notice?!
I was a huge fan of WWEs music as a kid. I had mom buy me these cds and every know and then i would have it on in the car. Also i hope Sami comes out to Worlds Apart Saturday 🤞
John cena rap album still knocks till this day yeah it did numbers!!! I had like 2 copies no kizzy!!!!! 😂 😂 Still have the whole album on the playlist as well! 💯💯
OH YESH! I had MANY WWF albums as a kid. WWF The Music Vol. 4 and 5 are STILL absolute fire. But man, It’s a damn shame the CFO$ tracks are gone. They were SO good and really defined that rise and golden era of NXT with tracks like Worlds Apart, Rebel Heart, Spiteful, The Future, etc. def rebel has had a few bops (Io Shirai’s Tokyo Shock is still fire and Dakota Kai’s Kombat was a killer) but most have been flops. It’ll never be as good as the Ruthless Agression era though, where they had real artists for theme songs. Kane, Edge, Trish, Lita, Orton, Triple H, Victoria, Cena, Mysterio… ALL the themes back then were fire and there was no question who was coming out when the music hit.
It breaks my heart a little bit that you didn't know about the WWF/WWE albums OR John Cena's platinum album. But I guess you weren't exposed to all of that. This was literally a part of my childhood and part of the reason I watched wrestling for so long.
I vividly remember bugging my mom to get the WWF Vol 5 CD from Virgin music store in Times Square down the block from the WWF New York. I played that CD far too many times 😂
I hope they bring back Jim Johnston and CFO. The music hasn't been the same in a looonnnnggg time. I am a 90s kid who was introduced to Hard Rock/Metal through WWFs programming. They were pretty much my go-to for discovering new artists and I miss the video packaging. The last great video package I've seen was the build-up of Karrion Kross versus Keith Lee for the NXT Championship. They used Metallica's song "Frantic" from St. Anger. Perfection!! 🥰🥰
The original release of forceable entry did NOT have Slow Chemical on the cd. Was mad as hell, had to download it on pirate bay when I went to college the following year.
"Oh you didn't know?!" Man I bought every CD they made..i remember run dmc perform at wrestlemania 5 I believe back when mr perfect beat the blue blazer..rip Owen. Its telling my age of 54..and its still real to me damnit😂
Speaking of great music WWE CM PUNK'S "This Fire Burns" theme was so fucking awesome, In my opinion its a slept on Gem. It also really added to Cm Punks character. "Even through the darkest days, this fire burns always" Shit was my JAM as a kid. Another Jem Is samoa Joe's theme.
The majority of things songs used to be handled by Jim Johnson, which were phenomenal. He knew how to capture the essence of a character. His style of music began being phased out and reserved around 2013. With him leaving altogether in 2017, being replaced by the CFO$. The CFO$ we're making music for a company since around 2012, but on a lesser scale than Johnson. Anyway since they left in 2020, I don't know who took the helm that Main music producer. CFO$ tended to be hit-or-miss with fans. Everyone loves Bobby Roode's theme song, Shinsuke Nakamura theme song. They themselves typically produced songs that work just above mediocre
