Excellent review, and really enjoyed the procedure for testing timing. I'm 70 years old and have come full circle with handguns. Started off with just revolvers, for the first 10 years of collecting and shooting. Then went to semi-auto Walther P38, Colt 1911, Beretta 92FS, Sig 226, and then the striker plastics owning several Glocks. For years the revolvers just stayed in the safe, and rarely got shot. Now that I'm retired, I have this incredible interest in revolvers again. They are so much more beautiful, and interesting then the striker polymers. I'm back to my first love, and now a subscriber.
Thank you for the review. I was looking at several reviews on this hand gun, and they are all pretty similar in the fact it impresses everyone after examining and firing it. The trigger pull measurements are all very close as well, with the double action in the 11 to 12 lb range, and single in the 4 to 5 lb range. Everyone comments on the craftsmanship being better than expected, and that it would be a good choice for carry or home defense. Another thing that was mentioned was the fact this hand gun has the firing pin on the hammer. You can see the set screw for the pin when the hammer is cocked back. I'm not sure how many other, if any, guns have this feature. For me, the cost (half the price of Rugers and the King Cobra) and the reviews have me sold that this will be a good choice for my home defense gun. Now if I can only find one in stock!
I have a friend with a high mileage Rossi .357. Probably 20 years old or so. Still works just fine. Decent trigger. Good value for the money and to think I tried to talk him out of buying it back in the day.
The best way to check lockup, is after the trigger is pulled all the way to the rear, do not let the trigger travel forward hold it all the way to the rear and then check cylinder lock up that is the moment of cartridge detonation and that is when lockup is the most important. Just an FYI exclamation point
Thank you for the tip I appreciate it. That's one of the things I love about RU-vid. There's people out there with more knowledge and more experience than I have and they're always willing to share that with me
Hey you're welcome for the tip brother, an old boy that owned a gun shop near where I live taught me that trick years ago, he was a Firearms genius if you know what I mean. Anyway I'm just north of you in Indiana about 20 miles South of Indianapolis, keep up the great videos my Kentucky neighbor! That Rossi is a good-looking revolver, I hope it's a good shooter for you! Take care friend!😊
I've got all kinds of revolvers Smiths Colts Rugers Astras Manurhin and a couple Taurus model 65's that have been just as reliable and accurate as any of them, I think I'm gonna picked me up one of these Rossi's and see for myself.
Well I hope it turns out to be a great revolver. Seems just slightly more refined than a Taurus I may be wrong but that's kind of the impression I get. And it doesn't have that stupid Taurus safety lock
This revolver looks more like an S&W clone than a Colt judging by cylinder release. I saw you checking the lock-up. The way I was taught is to cock the hammer and ease it down but don't remove your trigger pressure once the hammer is fully down. It is at this point that you check for wiggles. I have passed on a few revolvers due to play in the cylinder. I am interested in getting the 6in version of this revolver. I already have a sp101 that locks up tighter than the government covering for itself.
It's actually a copy of S&W "J" Frame 60 series, Taurus (856-38cal.-6) just came out with the New "ROSSCO" 357 6shot which is a S&W 1930's l-frame Trooper/Police Model #10 in BLK-Blued. Although it's a 357 ...take a extra hand with you to the range 🤣😂🤣 kicks like a Mule 😜
@@guaporeturns9472 You democraps always want conflict, that's why the US is in 2 wars now. I bet you think letting in thousands of immigrates that hate US is an awesome idea to.
Yes Bill I was pretty impressed with the fit and finish on this gun. Especially for the price I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. Now if it just shoots as well as it looks will be cooking with gas lol
That is nice Rob, love the look 👍. That Extremely heavy double action pull would kill it for me. I think Rossi was brought out by Taurus. I was looking at that and it looks very familiar to the Taurus designs nowadays.
Yes they are definitely closely related to the Taurus. But in handling this gun I feel like it is slightly more refined? And it doesn't have that stupid Taurus safety lock
The Colt had a little better trigger? That's an understatement if I ever hear one lol. I have a Colt and I also have a Taurus 605 - I like them both but the Colt's trigger is as good as it gets.
Yes the Colt definitely had a better trigger no doubt but for the price difference it wasn't that much better. This one actually has a fairly decent trigger heavy on the single action but smooth. No grittiness or stacking
Nice looking revolver. 3 inch barrel is my favorite length. Carries well and absorbs a bit of the felt recoil for me. Thanks for sha. Looking forward to a range review
Well I had thought about ordering new grips for it before I ever got the gun. I'm glad I didn't. Because I actually like these grips. Now after shooting it I might not feel the same but they do feel good in the hand
It looks small in some other Reviews but after seeing yours it doesn’t look to bad. lok makes g10 grips that fit it really well it costs half the price of the gun though
@@889976889 yeah I would definitely wait till I got it to make that decision. I'm glad I did I really like the grips and I have large hands I'm a big old boy
Me too 6’3 250 most guns don’t fit my hands right especially wheel guns. I like that huge under cut on the grip compared to others I think I’m gonna pick one up based on this review. 👍
I got mine a couple weeks ago. I'm a Rossi guy from way back, I have 6 older 2" 357's I used to carry on the subway. Robertson Trading Post has Sile walnut banana peel style surplus 1970's grips. Great look and feel. I have them on all the Rossi's, check it out.
I didn't think I would like the grip, and I still may not after I shoot it. But as for now I kind of like the grip. We'll see in the future. Thanks for watching I appreciate it
I love everything but the hammer on these things. I always worry they'll break and you arent supposed to dry fire them even. They should do away with it. Otherwise perfect piece. Would be nice to see a fiber optic front sight
The word "Taurus" scratched into it kills the deal for me. I have a Rossi .44 Special of the same frame and size that is very nice, so I was giving strong consideration to this gun. But I know as soon as that evil T word gets slapped on it, quality goes down the drain and accountability out the window. Sorry, Taurus, you should have let well enough alone.
I have Taurus 357mag, several Taurus pistols. My PT92 is 90s model and never had problems with any. The pistols run all ammo steel, brass, aluminum. And you do know that Taurus is in top 3 global small arms manufacturers. Each to his own though, whatever works for you👍
@@jimchambers7548 There is waaaaaay too much evidence all over the internet that confirms beyond all doubt that Taurus makes junk. So much evidence, that there are only two possibilities for the experiences you claim: 1. You had lottery class luck with your purchases of Taurus products 2. You just don't shoot very much, so your guns have not failed, YET! But, they WILL!!!
The "evil T word"... 😄 Admittedly they're budget-friendly, and realistically you could get a lemon - but I've never had any problems with mine so far, at least. I have a Tracker, for example, that has well over 1000 rounds through it - and I have a feeling that it's just gonna keep on ticking!... It's utilitarian but solid (enough).
@@carlosmorris4510 I watched a video on Taurus and they're in top 3 for small arms manufacturers global. If you're making 10 times the pistols you'll have more lemons. But I'm like you I've never had issues with my PT92, 605, G2, G3 they just work. Not as smooth as more expensive but work
I have the 605, also. I think I'm going to pick this up and try it out. Even with the traditional hammer it's still carrying 5 rounds with one empty chamber. So no loss from the 605. I like the 3" quite a bit better but would never drop the $800 or whatever for the Colt. The grips look superior also, instead of buying a new set for the Taurus. I see this for about $350 online now, really can't go wrong at that price, there is always a buyer for affordable revolvers, if I stick to what I'm carrying now.
I've looked at the Rossi on the web but not had in hand. Looks great id like to have 1 to go with my Taurus 605. I have a few S&W 38spl, but i like 357mag and if had to use one id rather lose my Taurus than S&W 😅. Great review 👍👍
I always like the idea of going with a 357. Even though you may only ever carry 38s in it you still have the option to go bigger. So far I'm really impressed with the gun fit and finish wise have not got to shoot it yet.
