The aim of the Common Ground Educational Program is to fight natural segregation and prejudices in Hungary by bringing together Roma and non-Roma, Jewish and non-Jewish, Budapest and countryside students to meet, learn from each other, and cooperate on a creative project together.
This year, the students of the Lauder Javne School of Budapest and the Afterschool Program of Budaörs explored the Jewish and Roma cultures through music and art - in the midst of the pandemic. The two groups have sent each other music, and created paintings inspired by the melodies; they have also sang each other's songs. Finally, when they could meet in May, they created paintings together that connected Roma and Jewish motifs, and also learned each other's dances.
Once the pandemic is over, the project will continue!
