In This video I talk all about my experiences with rotala rotundifolia also known as rotala indica. I talk about how to care for it aswell as my personal experiences growing the plant. I talk about the propagation and mention another video specifically on propagation. This is one of my favorite aquarium plants and I feel everyone should keep it in their aquariums.

There are a few varieties of rotala. Rotundifolia and Indica are not the same exact plant, but fall into the same family, rotala. There is rotundifolia, indica, wallichii, and macrandra. Some look better than others though, all easy to grow and maintain, but looks is what matters

Appreciate the tip about the heavy feeding. I currently have this in my shrimp tank so not a lot of nitrates but it is a dirted tank. Keep up the vids. Thanks again!

I just seen your video & was wondering if they will grow just floating till they get new roots cause I just got some & not very many of them have roots.

This is rotundifolia. Indica has rounder leaves submersed and stays more green. Rotundifolia was mistakenly called indica in the hobby since back in the 60s! Indica’s only been available in the hobby more recently.
@KalemsFishtanks
@KalemsFishtanks 3 года назад
Completely agree! At the time this video was released there was so much information out there still calling rotundifolia indica. So through in both names in case people thought it was the same plant 😁

Hi Kalem, If you trim this plant , will it grow roots if you float the cut off pieces. Thnks & I hope you'll reply.
@KalemsFishtanks
@KalemsFishtanks Год назад
They will grow roots if you float them but they will grow weird to get the most light. Its best to plant them in the substrate and theyll grow roots like that as well!

Its rotala rotundifolia, the indica variety. There are also green and H'ra varieties of rotundifolia.

@CaylorsReptilesAquatics
@CaylorsReptilesAquatics 6 лет назад
The Rainbow Stiphodon Goby (Stiphodon ornatus). I had three, lost one early on as I am a stickler for not having algae. I think the other two ate all the biofilm and algae in my 40 breeder and the smaller did not flourish. They will take a rare blood worm, but only rarely. Sand is a must as they love to burrow at night, also they love perching on stem plant leaves, and fitting into openings in wood. Very playful and intelligent, personable fish. Rachel had some, Dan has some now, listed as White Cheek Gobys. Don't know if they ship to...think you are in Canada.

Bob Caylor yeah im in cannada. I would love to try some but i hear they do bad with co2 and all my other tanks are probably too small and dont have sand.
@CaylorsReptilesAquatics
@CaylorsReptilesAquatics 6 лет назад
Yes. I stopped using CO2 for this and other reasons. At the end of the day, it primarily makes slower growers, grow faster.

Too much increases algae if there is a lot of light available for use. If you dose a lot and have a lot of plants you may not see this issue as much.

@iFLIP007 4 года назад
@@rifraf6135 thats the problem idk how much is too much :(
@rifraf6135
@rifraf6135 4 года назад
@@iFLIP007 well for starters algae is a good sign your tank is becoming established. Look at any established planted tank, they will have algae. The problem starts when the algar starts growing on plants. That means your system is out of wack. If it only grows on surfaces like rocks or glass youre fine.if you see its growing on plants, then you can wipe them off or reduce the photoperiod. Another alternative is getting seachem flourish excel. Try dosing liquid ferts on a regular basis, if you have a lot of plants they will suck in the nutrients. I suggest getting some hornwort. It is great at removing nutrients from the water column. Remember-- a lot of light but no nutrients for plants= algae or alot of light but no plants= algae. The light has to be used, along with the nutrients in the water so that plants ca grow efficiently. If they are malnourished then algae can grow on them. Start by getting your fertilizer regimen in. Then, start at 8 hours of light per day. Try getting more and more plants. Hope this helped.
