This video describes a laser centre/edge finder that rotates with a milling machine or drill press spindle. I was motivated to make this after seeing a video on Dan Gelbart's channel about a similar device. Unfortunately that video seems to have vanished from his channel, although there are many other great instructional videos still there, although the last is four years old.

I thought this was just another center finder. I really like what it can do on internal/external cylinders. Great tool!

That's the first video on metal work making use of a laser out of hundreds I've watched. I'm surprised that machinists do not make greater use of them. Combined with reflective materials and appropriate attachments, lasers can make great, easy to make and, more importantly, cheap precision indicators. There really is no excuse for not using them widely.

Possibilities for my mill drill are very impressive, round column can be picked up after adjusting height of quill assembly which requires reclamping , and ease of locating that centre pin on the rotary table looks so easy now compared to working with an indicator. Cheers!

David, I am aware of that one, but it is not the original one that I was referring to. IIRC it was a video dedicated to the laser centre finder. The device in that video had a different construction to the one briefly shown in part 15, and Dan demonstrated more uses in more detail. I have been unable to find that video for quite some time now. His channel has not been updated for 4 years now.

@@MotoChassisByTonyFoale Hi Tony I see what you mean. I also got the idea from that brief section and built myself a unit. In my case I designed and printed a device using my 3D printer. Like you I find it very useful.
