Hi Adam, Rotel provides an aux-in for analog sources like a disc player, and pre-out to a bigger amp. Main-in allows using a separate 2 channel preamp, with RAS-5000 being an amp only. But with all the streaming, video, and legacy input options on RAS-5000, we think most folks won't use it that way. This is a flexible all in one chassis streaming amp with options; not the right thing for everyone, but great for someone upgrading to something more modern.
Hello Ink, Magnepans can present a difficult load, and their website lists the 1.7 as a 4 ohm nominal speaker. RAS-5000 has plenty of power into a 4 ohm load, but this speaker may dip into the 2 ohm and possibly lower arena. You may want to reach out directly to Rotel with this: www.rotel.com/contact-us
Hello Pistopit, yes, page 16 of the owner's manual shows you how using the remote to adjust bass / treble is simple: www.rotel.com/sites/default/files/product/manuals/ras5000_om_en.pdf
Hello Attilav, yes, they decided against including a phono input. Our guess is that's because so many vinyl fans are choosing phono preamps that suit them and their budget, making an on board phono preamp redundant. The good news: you can get many (often not too costly) quality phono preamps and use the line input for your vinyl listening. Thank you for your comment
Hello Afelcandy, yes, you can adjust bass, treble and balance to your liking easily with the set-up menu button at the right side of the amp, and storing your preferences is also easy. We're very impressed with his unit
Hello User., thanks for your question. RAS -5000 sounds great with the Lumina series. We do a strong business with Lumina - great speakers for the money
Hello Michael, we communicated with our Rotel USA team, and got a response on “which DAC” just after we finished editing / uploading this. RAS-5000 utilizes the ES9028Q2M Sabre DAC, with an implementation similar to the DT-6000, with a Rotel-designed analog low pass filter to improve on the basic reference design - somewhat lower phase error, and a smooth high frequency response. We hope you can visit us when we get inventory (likely near end of December 2023) to listen for yourself, as our sample (which we've returned) had us convinced it's an excellent value
@GramophoneMD Thank you for that reply. I have little experience with Rotel but now own an RCD 1572mii CD player. My main grip with it is the neon light around the power button that you can't dim or turn off unless you take the unit out of standby by turning it off completely. I wonder if Rotel realises that people into Hi-Fi are not into bright annoying lights. It wouldn't be so bad if you dim it very low. The whole range of the 1500 series has the blaring lights that have turned me off buying another 1500 series mkii unit. Considering the 1500 units are price £1100 upwards it is a poor design by Rotel. I haven't had a chance to play with the CD player much, but the sound so far is to my liking. Bought an Arcam CDS50 that I found very bright, and it was another player with a spotlight on it that I sent back
I have been complaining about the annoying blue light for years, which has been a feature of most every Rotel component for the past decade at least. I pleaded with them to change the color to amber, green or red, and to tone down the brightness. it is an assault on the senses, it's distracting and contributes to ruining the audio experience. Like cell phone glare in a movie theater, it destroys the experience! @@michaeloconnor9465
@@michaeloconnor9465 Thanks Michael, we forgot to mention that Rotel listens to folks like you. The RAS-5000 power button neon light is dimmable, with 3 brightness settings. Go Rotel!
@GramophoneMD I have found the dimmer on the CD player, but it is still distracting because of the size of the light. These lights need to let the user to turn them off altother. I noticed on the 1500 amps they have a light around the volume button that is not needed. What passed Rotel to come up with such a poor design that users wouldn't like, the large light serves no purpose but to annoy. The tradional tiny dim led light would have been better.
Hi Marina, while the bass can be adjusted plus 10 or minus 10 in the tone controls on the app, we don't see an actual crossover adjustment. However most subwoofers nowadays have crossover adjustments built - in, which helps
