It occurred to me that the reason why you would want a single knock-single advance on the Rotring Rapid Pro is because it has a lead cushioning mechanism. And the only way that may be possible is if the clutch's motion is controlled. A traditional open-clutch mechanism may not allow for lead cushioning? That would be a logical reason, but it also basically trades one preference for another.
These thicker lead holders I found have always been use as an artist. Started using them over 30 years ago, also put silver in them to do silver point drawings on specially finished papers. Have som many only holders I haven’t used over the years, now I’m dusting them off a again.
Hey! Very nice and informative review. Not my cup of tea too, but still I can agree with your pros. My wife is an artist and she absolutely loves to work with those 2.0 lead holders. Stay safe. Thank you!
Very interesting Clutch. If I were to purchase another lead holder I would definitely buy this as it seems like it is one of the best on the market, especially coming from Rotring. My issue with lead holders is that it will never be as easy to maintain a sharp tip on the lead holder than a standard mechanical pencil. That being said the lead holders, in my opinion, are much more exciting to use than standard pencils. Also the idea of using a larger piece of lead makes me feel more comfortable as that's how we all learned how to write. I think the biggest selling point for me is that it is pocket safe which I love! P.S. I like what you did there 4:39 ; )
You need to buy separate lead sharpener. Its sharper than any mechanical pencil, doesnt break and can be extended to be as long as you want. Also a single lead will last you maybe 5years.
I see your point about a grab-clutch versus a click-clutch. I use mine more as a dull pencil for sketching and shading. I have the Rapid Pro 2.0 and I kinda was looking for one with a click-clutch. I have other brands with a grab-clutch so I always wanted one. In the end, I prefer the 600 series for it's looks but love the Rapid Pro a bit more for the ergonomics. Thanks for the review and stay safe! PS. the Rapid-Pro doesnt offer lead cushioning on the 2.0 version.
I really like those kinds of mechanical pencils, they're really good to hold when drawing large pieces. Unfortunately on my country there's only Steadler for that, is not bad but I don't want a full plastic body
I have always liked the Rotring rapid pro better because of the retractable sleeve in chrome sliver not in black to me sliver look on the to me is more appealing
Very good review. But for single step advance mechanisms in leadholders... like the Rapid Pro- well those are NOT leadholders at all to begin with! Those are simply 2 mm mechanical pencils. Same philosophy as the 0.25, 0.5, 0.7 et al., they were simply meant for ...technical drawing, in the past. Think ruling and stenciling, drafting etc. Legacy today, and can be used *although somewhat are more cumbersome* also for arts and crafts. Not meant for casual drawing at all, those. For this and writing, the 600 /classic leadholder is correct. Curiously, the much more recent Rapid Pro has the construction one would need/expect a lot of years ago when drafting was a totally manual matter. And the 600 has the timeless yet non-technical leadholder construction that allows for lead tricking out- you can sharpen it in a screwdriver fashion, so it has a chisel tip, thin and thick lines in the same pencil, or controlling the lead thickness through adequate sharpening etc. The 2mm technical pencil has this as a feature..it encourages NOT sharpening it and keeping thickness constant-for when it matters.
I been following your channel for a month or so and this has gotten me into the mechanical pencil collecting hobby as well. I was wondering, do you think anytime in the future you would create a side channel to promote pens, fountain pens, or regular pencils?
Definitely not, unfortunately. I just don't have the time. I actually already have a second Channel, but it focuses on another hobby: role-playing games: ru-vid.com/show-UCC9EqFqKBETCBse8JuOOYOg
can you try this pencil to sharpen with staedtler 502 lead sharpener? i heard that rotring 800 2.0mm was compatible with that sharpener, but since that pencil is out of sold, i'm search alternative option here.
Hello there. I am thinking of buying a mechanical pencil to give it to my girlfriend. But I have no idea which pen to buy. He uses 0.7 nibs and likes Rotring style pencils. Is there a nice pen you can recommend? Thank you.
@@ClutchSituation I can say that she is a student and preparing for the exam. During this period, she often writes and works for his lessons. So I want to give her a suitable pen. I have no financial problems. I am strong enough to buy whatever pen you recommend. The pen-style Rotring I think she might like about the pens. So I only have this information and I will most likely get a Rotring pen to it. I would like you to help me with this and suggest me a nice pen, because I can see from the videos you shoot that you are very knowledgeable about it. And if you can pass a few summary information about why you suggested the pen you would recommend, I would be very happy :) Thank you.
