I'm glad I stumbled on to your channel. I just pulled up my sons bathroom floor to install new flooring only to find the sub floor with lots of rot around the toilet. Your attention to detail while explaining the "Why" behind the steps you are taking has helped me gain a much better understanding. Thank you for taking the time to help out others like me, so we can push our selves to do more and be better.

Is this going to be so much stronger than the surrounding areas that it’s a waste? Wouldn’t boxing every other gap be stronger than the rest of the house still?

Nice work, but I have a question that may sound dumb, but couldn't you just have run and screwed staggered (to get your screw gun in) pieces of 2x's from joist to joist as opposed to boxes to lay your plywood on?..Just curious.
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys Год назад
You are able to do that for the sides where there are floor Joyce’s but on the end of the boxes you’re not able to do that and that is important so that you do not have a seam in your plywood that does not have something solid under it

Do you need to reinforce the boards perpendicular to the joists in the frames you made with screws?
@wolfgaidin
@wolfgaidin 3 года назад
Great video and helped me a lot with fixing a rotted subfloor in my kitchen! Also, what size lumber are you using for the box framing? Most videos I see use 2x4, but yous look like they may be 2x6 based on width difference to the joists?
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys 3 года назад
wolfgaidin It is two by fours, the floor joist are only 2 x 6

What about the rotten subfloor under the walls and door though? Do you recommend just leaving it in place?
@marckraimer829
@marckraimer829 Год назад
The right way to do it would be to pull the door and fix the rot entirely because it’s clear that’s the source of the rot. It will be back and it’s prob more under the door possibly the studs near it too in the walk

Hey man… I am trying to replace the composite sub floor in a single wide older mobile home with new plywood. How do I cut and remove the rotted board under the walls? Will the wall fall directly down?

How do you cut the floor without cutting the joist? How do you find the thickness if no holes
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys 3 года назад
Most subfloors or three-quarter thick, if you’re unsure just start at five eights and go from there

What’s the reason for using 2x4’s instead of 2x6’s? I’ve seen it done both ways.

Easier to deal with especially in a mobile where are the choices are two by sixes, really hard to get them in place without any extra room

Use a toe kick saw

@charleswilson4598
@charleswilson4598 5 лет назад
A toe kick saw does seem to make sense for a tradesman, but for a home owner DIYer a toe kick saw is pretty pricey, and that multi max is affordable. Even I have one, and he shows that the multi max will get the job done although a little slow. And he responded that he didn't like the toe kick saw as well as the multi max. We all like different tools.

How long did this take and how much do you charge for it?
@FloorsbySouthernboys
@FloorsbySouthernboys 5 лет назад
Chris Sheafer Well I did not work on it consecutively so it’s kind of hard to tell how long it took if you were noticed the other holes that were in the floor by them they was fixed during that time and this job had a total of 24 floor repair jobs before I could install the flooring so I tore everything out then I framed everything in and then install the new plywood so I could not tell you how long it took for this particular job here and on something like this I would usually charge $50-$60 per hour Plus materials

Ochir Nema Chap yeah this particular mobile home had been neglected for a long time some of the places just had sheet metal screws over holes or additional plywood just lay down on top of that some of the holes or rotten spots where it was just neglected and not fixed for many years and this was actually leaking down inside of the wall right here from the roof and that’s what caused so much of this rot
