The name "Rottweiler" comes from the original breed which was founded in a town in Germany called "Rottweil" so therefore that has to be where the original bloodline springs from.
Rockweilers RN off breed of Mastiffs and originate in the countryside's of Rome sheepherders and livestock and guard dog Cane Corso Greyhound English Mastiff they're all Mastiff
Rottweil Metzgerhund, essentially butchers dog, was the original name. They were used for herding, and pulling butchers carts full of meat to market. While there is mastiff in them, it's more complex a mix than the Roman war dogs were. Just as with Dobermans generations later, they were bred for a fairly specific task.
Doberman mixed in I heard Doobie got it from a now distinct breed forgot the name but can look up that's what I was told from a German breeder in NJ in 1976 my first Rottie
I owned a rottweiler with a red coat, her tail was long. Her name was Nita, she passed after 13 years a week ago. They are great dogs but take a special touch. Also, she was the only puppy out of the litter to have the red coat. She was truly a blessing to have raised
I have had a variety of dogs throughout my life..from Spaniels to Huskies to Mastiffs. I rescued my first Rottie back in 97. She had an abusive first 6 months of life. Of all my dogs, the Rottie, by far, was the best dog I ever had. No doubt.
The german rottweiler all day long . Best blood lines and breed standard, working and show. Thats why most proper breeders world wide import rotts from germany / EU! Facts!!
Thank you for pointing out bigger size means less health. This is important, and many people don't know it I think and just believe a bigger dog is cooler. I do not agree that tailed Rottweiler is an extra type, i mean, the tailed and docked are born the same... just differ in what human does to them. One of the red Rottweilers in your video at 4:25 is a Dogue de Bordeaux I believe. Can be recognized by the broader, more wrinkled muzzle and, well, the typical red colour...
1⁰yrs. My heart is broke she was rot[i / BassetthoundI had a stroke. She ?ade herplaceup by my head and never moved She age overnigd I had to put her down I believe it was parasitic
Lol he forgot the vampire rottweiler as well as the tail and none tailed rottweiler the short muzzled siberian rottweiler must be exstict just like the colossus what the romans used in ww1 😏
Nonsense, a rot is a rot.. There is nothing like a tailed rottweiler as in a type of rottweiler. It's just a normal rottweiler whose tailed wasn't docked. Any other rottweiler is not a standard one.
The media doesn't give them a bad name. They reserve that for bullies. The dog that's responsible for over 60 percent of attacks on humans despite there being over 200 breeds of dog. German Shepherds will always be my favorite but I'm loving my Rottweiler mix to bits and pieces
It's not the media. It's the pig headed owners who take ZERO responsibility for the power of their dog. If you do not have control over your dog at all times, it can hurt someone. Even the sweetest, calm 90lb Rottie could hurt a toddler just by bumping in2 them 2 hard. You have 2 be responsible with them. Some people are just not...
I had a Long Haired Rottweiler Service Dog Damian. He was extremely intelligent and loving. I lost him to bone cancer at 9years of age. My family will miss him forever.
I have also had pit bulls in the past. I’m very comfortable with training and their temperament. However, I lost my baby girl after 14 years just a few years ago. I haven’t gotten a new dog but would like to have one now. I think I want another breed bc I feel like I’ll never have another pit like her.
@@catherinelee2553 I'm sorry about your Lost your right you will never have another like your baby girl. I just lost my pitbull ( cowboy) it is devastating it took the heart right out of me he was my boy and I miss him so much but I have had other breeds like German shepherds and Belgian malinois and there's nothing like the Pitbull they're loyalty they're so fun loving and fearless but most of all they're so happy. Again I'm sorry about your Lost but there's other pities out there or American bullies that will bring you happiness and love maybe not the same way because all dogs are different but I guarantee you they will put a smile on your heart. There's nothing like the bully breed they're truly one of a kind
@@terilynnorton1856 The reason why i buy, is that i want to live with my dog from the moment it is a puppy, but you stil have point and im grateful to have Peoples like you
As someone who has rescued 4 of these magnificent creatures - of variable shapes and sizes - that was a truly enlightening video. THANK YOU. Conn was definitely American, Rocco was German, Rocky was Roman and Luna is rare breed - quite petite with webbed feet. Well now I know. Peace and love from Ireland 🇮🇪 🐾🐾
My old Rottweiler was a real German bloodline Rottweiler born in Michigan and transferred to Ontario Canada. She was short and heavy stocky built with a short bobtail, she lived 9 years. Rottweilers that's tall and skinny are American breed, possibly mixed with Doberman. Real Rottweilers are short and stocky like mine, not tall and slim.
@@cashmererichards6038 The best thing to do is, request to see both parents that way you'll know if they are skinny and tall or short and stocky. I bought mine back in the very early 2000's 2007 that breeder most likely doesn't breed dogs anymore.
@@jeremydarkcountrysteckman9496 And that happens how often? There is a reason it is banned in the rest of the world. It is painful and cruel. God intended them to have tails.
@@jeremydarkcountrysteckman9496 Rotties aren't that dumb. That's like saying your kids bumps their arms into stuff and that's why you had to cut them off. Absolutely no good reason to do this. Its cruel to literally cut their body parts off, rather for them to grow in their surrounding.
My mother had a red rottweiler. She was german and american rottweiler. Both parents were akc registered but 2 female puppies came out red with light black patches where the brown patches on a normal rottie would be. She was an awesome dog. Lived to be about 15 before her hip displasia got too bad 😔
I've had many Rottenweilers & in the most part's u don't even have to train them. Especially if u already have a well trained Rottenweiler!. Their the best in my thoughts!. Love this bread with all my hart!.
@@robertbutts9835 because it's a Rottenweiler she's seeking how to put u in a trance to win u over. She's a Rotten bitch! Lol I know I luv em as well. Mine did that shit to me all the time. Because their Rotten. Lol my fav d.o.g 😍
I probably wasn't the best kid to have around any breed of dog but my mom's rottie was like a secondary dad to me, especially through her divorce with my actual dad. He would sit in the front passenger seat and would guard the car and us when she went shopping. (This is back in the day when kids got eft in cars. Nobody bothered us with our boy looking out for us and we didn't overheat) He didn't let me swim. He'd pull me by my bathers out of the beach water, but not my sister who was a few years older than me. He also bit another dog who growled at me. I was around 5 when we got him and 10 and he had to be put down from severe arthritis in the end. Then there was the one we got when I was in highschool. Again super sweet, gentle, smart. We have a picture of him chilling with me on a couch. His head was bigger than mine. Easily a much more powerful dog than we could handle but he was a good boy. Put down due to bone cancer. Now I have a friend who owns a rottie cross mastiff and let me tell you... He's just the biggest, sweetest softie. Too much of a sweetie for his own good. He always reminds me of our boys but not as protective, more just- if there's someone's he doesn't know approaching hell bark to alert them but never attack.hed rather make friends with anyone with a heartbeat and he remembers everyone he's already friends with.
@@Str82Tay222 thank you. I know everyone says this about every breed but rotties really are what you raise them to be. If you want them to be family dogs they will be. If you want and train them to serve more exclusively towards guarding, they'll do it. Our first rottie (the one who wouldn't let me swim) guarded naturally as well. So we got the best of both worlds with him. But they're extremely prone to cancer, unfortunately.
I love Rotties we had rescue when I was a kid she was older and was on her last stages of life and she was just the sweetest dog. Currently have a Rott-Lab mix and he is Mama's boy. Obviously no papers because he is a mix.
I think my dog is a Rottweiler mix but I wish I could find out what she’s mixed with. She’s got the coloring in all the areas it should be but she’s on the smaller side, slim, and her face is small.
Question, why do I see Rottweilers with shorter more French mastiff looking faces and some with longer muzzles? Some look like some one crossed a little Bull mastiff in there generations ago. I definitely like the look of a Rottweiler with long tail…
To help you out with your own video here the German Rottweilers have bigger block like head as the American Rottweilers have a more narrow and poted shaped head.
We just got a rottweiler who has a longer coat. All the other pups would run away playing but he came up and stood at our feet. He gets hyper at times but overall an easy dog to train
Beautiful. I think it's beautiful wherever they come from. I had 3 and they all passed. They brought me friend ship, loalty. protection and everything wonder ful.
I have a rottermen....Doberman and Rottweiler from great German parents im not normally a fan of crossing breeds I've had Rottweilers for 3 generations.....I can say this pup is awesome!!!
Nice work making it feel natural the mutilation of the tail. Mine costs me a lot to find because all of the undeveloped brains breeding and mutilating puppies, it is weird to feel nice about finding a dog without missing parts
I always docked my Rottie's tails and their dew claws as well. It's done within the first 4 days after birth. In American Rotties it was breed standard forever. It seems odd 2 me 2 see them WITH tails. MANY a kid would be sporting a bruise or 2 from those tails. Plus, I always loved watching them aggressively wag that little tail nub and their entire butt!!!
@@giondennis6808 First of all train your kids to move out of the way of their butt. Second do all they feel that pain. And 3rd of all most places ban cropping because there is no good use for it at all. They don't pull things and aren't in danger of losing limbs like back in the day. It's completely normal for all dogs to keep their limbs but all you care about is how funny it is to see them not tail wagging. If you don't care about your dogs then just say that.
@@yourparentingsucks2215 you try 2 be condescending but even fail at that because of your lack of intelligence. Docked tails, and dew claws were an AKC breed standard...My comment about bruised kid legs is because we always have treated our dogs well and their happiness is evident upon the wagging of a tail. I have owned and bred SEVERAL breeds of dogs in my life. I bred rotties & min pins who both had tails docked, as well as dew claws removed. It was breed standard and I paid fantastic veterinarians 2 perform the surgeries and 2 ensure healing went well and with little pain. I still prefer both breeds that way. I also prefer Doberman pinchers with docked ears and tails.
I prefer the American. The bigger the Rottie, the shorter the lifespan, and after burying 3 of them, I wish my next was the size of a teacup poodle I don't really give a crap about stuff like show quality. My dogs guard my house, they don't walk a catwalk My current one is a mix, but it's hard to tell because his dad's genes are so dominant. If he were running loose, the calls to animal control would be for a rottweiler.
If you look for a real ADRK German Standard Rottweiler, I’ve seen many live 12-15 years. Many say they have German Rottweilers but have no idea what that means. It simply means ADRK standards which are much stricter than AKC standards
@@VetteMAE2 I wish I had the cash to buy that kinda dog. But again I prefer the American rottwieller, then the German. I prefer the shape of their heads.
I live in BC where tail docking and other cosmetic surgical procedures on dogs is illegal. In fact only Alberta and Quebec still allow that. There is (or was) a woman in my town that had a VERY large Rottie. This was a 250 lb dog that went with her everywhere. I haven't seen either of them for some years now. This is not the only super large Rottie I have come across. Most people refer to then as "king" Rotties. There are also "king" Dobermans about as well. A friend of mine in Richmond BC who owns an imported fish warehouse for the pet trade, has one as a guard dog. VERY effective. There seem to be a number of extra large Mastiffs around here as well. My last Rottie (German), passed at age 19 yrs. I wish I could acquire another, but far too expensive for me now, although I'd like to try the Roman subtype. It REALLY winds me up when people attempt to sell (and are successful in doing so because the buyers are stupid), cross bred dogs as an actual "breed". Cockapoos, Bernedoodles, Border Chow, Beagliers et al, and other mutt types for the price of a non breeding AKC/CKC dog at around $500! I once came across a young man with a box full of Rottie/Mastiff cross puppies outside of a local thrift store trying to sell the pups for $450 each. They were beautiful puppies and I would have bought two if they were more in the $50 - $100 range. He said he needed $$$ for Christmas, and besides they WERE "purebred"...purebred Rottie and purebred Mastiff. I pointed out that it didn't work like that and that at best they were mutts and offered him $75 each to cover his food costs, but he decline all lesser offers. It was mid December at the time. I'm pretty sure he didn't get any buyers at that price.
My Rottweiler definitely was the most amazing dog I have ever had. And I see the similarities between him and the other variants, but something that distinguished him a bit more he wasn't 100 percent Rottweiler and because of that I don't know which other breed he was but he was definitely bigger, almost pony size lol
There are some "Mastweiler" crossings of English Mastiff x Rottweiler that actually resemble Rottweilers in appearance, but they are much larger. The Rott "colors" are genetic dominant, so a mix of these will almost always get black nose and nails (and brown eyes). Even if crossed with a Dogue de Bordeux. Rottweilers mixed with any "Mastiff" can be a great dog. Usually you get a more healthy dog. Unless you find a premium breeder - and prepared to pay a premium for your purebred.
@@paoloc3318 to true but tbf other breeds have been used to help the gene pool of the rottweiler the same as all pedigree breeds no matter what the kennel club will tell you! Like the cane corso having boxer etc added when they was try to stop the breed dying out
I have a German Rottweiler with a long tail, and she’s a tall gal. Her parents were shorter and stockier, but they were weight trained from a young age, and my girl was not. She’s a big fish and loves to swim. I think her swimming had something to do with her modelesque physique. She’s pushing 9 now and has not one health issue ❤️
The original Rotts were bred in Germany and were the product of Doberman mixed with another large dog but I can't remember exactly what breed it was so I'll not say anything I'm not sure about. I learned that in the early 70's at a dog breeding farm just outside of Washington DC in Virginia.
@@frankmanda3620 You could be right about that, I heard the owner of the breeding farm talking to my parents, I might have it reversed, I was 15 at the time. Thanks for the info, it gives me an opportunity to work at an interesting problem.
Na mate that's wrong, the doberman has rottweiler in it not the other way around as the rottweiler is an older breed.A German tax man, created the doberman breed!
I dissagree with respect. I have had Stealth, the American breed, smaller, faster and bred for agility in competitions. She was extremely clever and highly trainable. She weighed 75 pounds, when she passed on. At the same time we had Grippen, a German Giant, as they are actually known as. She was more a teddy bear and pensive. She clocked in at 120 pounds, when she passed on. It was her absolute tolerance for everything that made her my beautiqueen and love, she never even hurt a fly. Now we have Mikojan and Tesla, two sisters from the same litter of Roman breed, tails are not docked, thus the forth class falls out. You can distinguish them on the fact that they are mastive in built and they have a knob on their snouts. They are more aggressive and protective of their own, my wife and I. They weigh in on 109 pounds each. But also teddy bears with us. There are only 3 species of Rottweilers, long-tailed, like Mikojan and Tesla, does not class them as a different specimen. It is the size, ability, temperament and physical attributes that distinguish them.
People there is only one Rottweiler. The only difference is what country they are bred in. This video is stupid. The other dogs this video showed were the French mastiff, the South African Boerbel and some muts. If anyone is looking to learn about rotties go to the dogumentary channel or Butler kennels. This video is fake 📰
@kayla Johnson. You are kind of right about different type of dogs but their head type and size vary among German-Europe Rottweiler and American Rottweiler. If you have a dog that both parents are from Germany and it’s got that chunky head and body but it’s bred in the us, it’s a us Rottweiler. Just like you can have a more American style rottie bred in Germany. Everyone obsesses to much on this. The owner makes the dog not the breeder. All the breeder sells you is genetics. You have to train them to do what you want or what suits the line of dog that you have
Disagree with those who choose either German or American. The superior rottie comes from Eastern Europe, Serbia, Croatia, etc. the breed standard is a beefier thicker dog with a squared muzzle and not necessarily heavier but usually a bit taller and huskier. Our Serbian female rotties were also slightly longer legged.
To bad much of the breeding from eastern europe is bad, short nose, way to wide head and the list is long. Things like shorter nose give them health issues and just that is well known amongst rottweilers coming from cz etc.
You are talking about PUGWEILLERS with those short muzzles that cause breathing problems, eating problems, teeth problems, weaken the bite, and generally make the breed look like shit. Those are a horrible example of the breed and nobody with an AKC certified dog would breed with one.
we have two rotty mix w staffordshire terriers and one has a staffy coat while the other has a Rottweiler coat. They have a unique look and get compliments all the time about how good looking our dogs are lol
I'm going on my third one right now this one's my first female my other two were males both of them Germans one lived to be 14 and the other one died after 7 1/2 years to bone cancer absolutely the best dogs I've ever owned and I'm 62 and I'm on dogs since I've been 6 years old all kinds shepherds Rottweilers wolf hybrids beagles English setters but I'll stick with Rotties from here on out
The German ones are of course the cleanest and most in line with the breed standards, but that doesn't change the fact that the American ones are the most handsome and look the most elegant.
I have had 5 Rottweilers in total so far and I don't like the ones with tails it just makes me think that the people who breed them don't want to pay to have them docked? My last pup still had his dew claws which I had them operated on as he had a 5th toe don't like the dew claws either. I have had 4 German & 1 American/German over all they are great dogs
I have a Rottweiler. Her dad's German her mom's American and she looks Roman. She has her tail. I don't believe in tail docking or clipping of ears. All natural. I love my Rottweiler. 😍❤️😍
It is interesting concept of the breed. Breed is Rottweiler and it does not matter where they are born because that does not make difference. Rottweilers are born in most of the countries in the world. Bloodline does make difference and that is where you see good bred Rottweilers and bad bred Rottweilers. There is standard of breed and does not specify origin. So point is , ROTTWEILER IS ROTTWEILER.
Frend of mine in the 90's had a huge rottweiler never seen a bigger one (that even came close) I am 180cm and if the dog was on 4 feet next to me his head came to my ribs. -For example he could put 3 tennis balls in his mouth and keep it closed like there was nothing in his mouth. We didnt know ifvhe was a pure blood ...he found the dog laying is his backyard
Before you even consider getting a Rottweiler & naming him Chop after the beloved dog in Grand Theft Auto V, just know that Rottweilers are ridiculously expensive.
There are not five types of Rottweilers there are two German and American I was Rottweiler breeder for 20 years. German Rottweilers are the originals they have the shortnose shorter stature. The American which is what I bread are taller and have a longer nose. If you have different colors then there's another breed in the history of that dog you have to go back Generations to see it
German Rotty pound for pound the smartest and strongest dog I even had to deal with and I have trained over 500 dogs Plenty being guard dogs. I love that dog
I have a rottweiler pit mix her coat is brindle like a pit but her body is rottweiler shes more like the roman line shes 120 lbs and tall with long tail
I have a docked 4 yr old Rottie, with AKC papers indicating German breeding. He has longer legs than most German bred males I have seen, he has a very nicely shaped large head, and weighs 135LBs, I have tried to get him to be more athletic, he participates briefly but quickly loses interest. The one exercise he does seem to enjoy is tugging. He also absolutely refuses to get into any vehicle, which at his size makes trips to the vet and wash problematic. When he was a smaller dog, we could lift him, but now we would have to use a crane. He is a great, gentle family pet, and is very tolerant with our visitors, however he is very aggressive with strangers outside of the fence. He also will not tolerate any other animal on our property boundary, he killed our 6 chickens when my wife and I went fishing. I also saw him kill a coyote 3 or 4 weeks ago. He has never displayed any aggression or vicious temperament to his human pack members, we have no idea how to change or influence his current mental make up. We live in the mountains, have a large fenced property and have few neighbors. People come up to enjoy our cabin and the nearby outdoor activities. He is always very good with everyone who visits us. I guess this is what you get with Rottweiler ownership. All in all, my wire and I are very happy with our big boy, and he is very happy with us.
The tail cutt Is the best look with the nail on the upper leg removed German American Roman Mexican German Roman mixed it dont matter Big shows agression but owner can control tail docked always looks how they should look
