Loving the Illinois part of this road trip 🤘💜. The Classic Inn definitely looked a bit “Classic” 😉. But no resort fees right 🤣🤣. I was raised in a small Illinois town … these places you are stopping at remind me of my childhood 💜💜
Some cool places in this one, as an ex Prison officer myself id have definitely enjoyed visiting Joliet correctional center. 👍 Hope ur feeling better now mate 😬
What a start . Very interesting the prison and museum ..the towns look so typical American .hope you're feeling better for the next leg of your trip 😊😊
What a start, that prison looks so interesting. The motel is quaint and I love that you can park your car right in front of the door. Sucks you got sick from those pancakes. I hope that burger at the 1st Route 66 diner didn't make it worse. It did look yummy though.
I’ve always wanted to do a Route 66 road trip(California girl here)and it’s wonderful seeing it through your eyes. I hope the tummy doesn’t give you too much more trouble. Carry on. Loving this. ❤❤
Glad your guts are on the mend fella, hope you've stocked the car up with plenty of loo roll(just in case). See your leaving the Blues Brothers behind and i'm getting Planes,Trains and Automobile vibes now, with the motels and diners etc. Lovin it so far 👍
Loving this series and your excitement is infectious. Emily’s already asking me to plan a similar trip 😂 Love the fact you’re staying and eating in local joints too! Can’t wait for the rest.
You should do it .. you'd love it !!! I love all the old stories snd and small town America.. great to hear your both enjoying watching .. see you soon 👍🇬🇧😁
Ha, me and,Ash cheered as you hit the road, shouting.... " And he's off" This is gonna be such fun, cool little places already, sweet dreams mate, hope your guts have settled down.
You parked in a lot on your first day. Love the museum, that lady gave you a vip tour. Think it’s great you’re supporting the smaller businesses rather than the chains. Hope you feel better soon and get your appetite back. That burger looked good though.
Great vlog, that cracked us up when you said about the armchair in the room and how it let the room down and they could get some covers for the arms, then you said I might buy him some 😂 really enjoying this, so fascinating too
That was great mate, love the fact that you are doing route in such a spontaneous way and seeing real American by not using chains of hotels and restaurants! Hopefully your deli belly settles down 😂 nothing worse!
I know what you mean about an eerie feeling when visiting an old prison. I also went to Alcatraz and felt the same way. Sorry you were not feeling well.
Loving this series Simon, I think its great that your choosing to support the small businesses rather than the big chains. I hope your feeling better!!
Yes linda... I wanna spend my money with the people that are keeping 66 alive... so important really ..an amazing piece of U.S history .... cheers 😁🇬🇧👍
That all looked so interesting, especially to prison and I know what you mean about depressing, I felt a bit like that doing the Alcatraz tour a few years back. This is great the way you are picking the smaller places to stay along the route, proper old route.
I'm traveling with you virtually, it's great! Too bad about your tummy issues. But I did notice that those pancakes you ate seemed undercooked. Oh well it's part of the travel experience!
We’re on our way 🎉great first day mate, love the old places, shame so many are closed.. but you’re doing it right mate, only eating and staying in traditional places, keeps them going .. right on brother 👍🏻👍🏻😊
Great first day on the road mate, real shame about the Lauching Pad, looks like we got lucky when we passed through. the prison tour looked pretty good though, hope the rain eases up, safe travels.
enjoying your road trip simon hope your tummy bug has gone every vegas trip i get that must be something in the water looking forward to the next vlogs your old mate jim
Watching with a constant smile on my face. Can I hold it for the whole trip? Hell yes! Just so nice to have a look at your discoveries because it’s something you’ve been looking forward to and you’re finally in it. Hope you encounter more nice folks like the woman at the museum. That really enhances the experience. Hope your stomach settles in for the long haul.
Meeting some lovley folks Stu.. yes been thinking about 66 for a few years and to finally be actually driving it is such a great feeling.. something ill never forget.. and soooooooo much more to go !!! Cheers as always mate 😁🇬🇧👍
Loving this series so far! It’s great seeing all the different places and real side of America.. I can imagine it felt somewhat eerie in the old prison
Joliet is the one town in the United States in which Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway which connects New York City to San Francisco intersect with one another.
Sorry to hear you started your journey being under the weather. The actual weather too wasn't cooperative. Especially since you were unable to enjoy some of the best fried chicken, and chicken dumpling soup at Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket.
I have lived in Illinois for 50 years, and have not been to these places. Thank you for sharing your journey. I look forward to the rest of the trip. Be safe, and enjoy.
Loving what I’m seeing so far Simon😎 Road trips are definitely the way forward 😍 The Blues Brothers is one of my favourite films so it was good to see the prison tour and the music tour looked good as well. Hope you manage to bung up the leakage and hopefully you feel better tomorrow. There’s nothing worse on a road trip😂😂😎
“get your s***s on route 66!!!” Sorry! Seriously though hope you are feeling better - An awesome start (Just binge watched your Denver to Vegas videos- fab) - Alan Whicker with a cockney accent. Can I ask if you get all your interesting facts off the app you mentioned and what is the name of it? Me and the Mrs will be following your epic journey. Best wishes
Great vlog Simon, hope you’re feeling better now. We are picking up a car (same as your car) in 6 weeks time from San Francisco airport. How do you find it to drive and how did you start it up ? We are going to Napa valley then on to Reno, then South Lake Tahoe and finally Las Vegas (just for a change - visit 73). We have 7 days on the road and then 14 nights in Las Vegas. We’re really keen on doing route 66. Take care
Hav a wonderful trip Gary.. sounds brilliant... great car to drive.. always a bit nervous at first.. but now I'm fine . The start is on a button !! I was looking for a key 🤣🤣🤣🇬🇧👍
Thanks for your reply Simon. Are you using the gps nav system with the car or your own phone data for the trip. Was wondering what the USB connection is like in the car. I was just thinking of using my own data rather than onboard gps - any advice would be appreciated. Take care and enjoy yourself
@garyphillips2079 I'm using my own Data... brought an e-sim.. and had to stop at Walmart and buy a small connection (both ends) charging cable as is doesn't hav the big -small like usual... about $8 .. hope this helps .. cheers 😁🇬🇧👍
