Plunger Princess Video • Tri-ang Super 4 Layout...
Hello and welcome, today I am downstairs in the workshop putting together a loop of Tri-ang Standard Track and some Series 3 track too. I start to take a look at ready to run train sets from the collection and show the few items of Hornby Zero 1 I bought to experiment with. Finally I unbox some excellent donations to the channel. Thanks for watching.

As much as I love the Tri-ang set, I think the Wrenn set would be my preference. I have never seen a set before and didn't know they made their own track. I wonder if it is the same as Hornby Dublo 2 rail track. The collection of wonderfully dusty relics is precious, I'm sure you will make use of them in some way. I have four of the 6" coaches in polystyrene, I love them. So sweet. Always something to add another dimension to the hobby. 😊

Hello Pauline, there does seem to be interest in the Wrenn set but I'm looking forward to getting the little Deeley running too. They are excellent items the little L.M.S coaches, it's good to hear you are running yours too. All the best to you

Nice video! Lovely to see all these different items. I would like to see the Wrenn set. Great that yellow Zero 1. Never seen one before. I bought my Zero 1 in 1980 and still use it today. Great system! Greetings from Holland.

Hello Andrew, thanks for watching. It's great to hear you are still running your Zero 1. The more I explore this system I find myself engrossed experimenting with it. When I repaired the keypad on the yellow master controller I was impressed with the build quality of the electronics. All the best to you

That Graham Farish loco had a two pole motor (!) in the tender powering the driving wheels in the loco via a universal drive mechanism. Also the armature with the front-facing commutator was probably from a Zenith X3 motor, (Triang Super 12), which indeed was destined to become the X04.
@MrSnooze

Hello and thanks for watching. That information about the Graham Farish loco is good to know. A two pole motor, I need to look into this, it sounds interesting. I have a Plunger Princess with the front facing commutator, an excellent forerunner to the XO4 as you say. Best regards to you

Good afternoon Mr Snooze what a terrific video with so much in it I love your dealer Zero 1 unit in bright yellow and excellent item, terrific collection of useful items you've been sent, I love the tins of bits. I've not seen a Wrenn set before and such a lovely box, the Midlander also has a lovely box and both boxes contain such a lovely looking items. So very difficult to choose which one to run first in a situation like this perhaps running both would be wise... Take care. Oscar
@MrSnooze
@MrSnooze 2 года назад
Hello Oscar, I am still looking through those tins, there are some nice bits in them. I think I may run the Wrenn set first but I'm looking forward to getting that Super 4 out of the Midlander Box, it's not too rusty at all. Best regards to you

Coupling the two hook and loop coaches together re-created a wonderfully evocative Rovex moment. A lovely film full of stories to be told. Running either set first is good with me - I'd like to see them both ! Thank you for sharing.

Nice to see the saddle tank engine running so well on your Series 3 track. She certainly storms along. My prefetence is to see Triang engines running as you may guess. I've found that once youve cleaned the series 3 track and keep running on it there is no rust. Mine certainly has no rust in humid Brisbane Mon from Brisbane

Hello Mon, I think you are right about regular running being good for the track, the Saddle tank does like a bit of speed. I am looking forward to getting the Tri-ang set running too. Best regards to you

Hello Jonathan. This was an enthralling video to watch. It was great to see the series three test track running, very noisy but great fun. The information regarding controllers was timely too as I short circuited one of mine yesterday and I'm afraid I may have wrecked it, you give me hope. I have never seen the Tri-ang Mk.1 couplers before so that was wonderful to see and I think it is great that you see the value of those old distorted items. I would love to see them again once you clean them up and display them. At least one of those tins looked like it may contain some parts that are missing from one of my locomotives. My vote for next weeks boxed set goes to the Tri-ang/Hornby Midlander set. Regards, David.

Looks like Christmas has come early for you Mr. S. If you want to, you could take on a few restoration projects with those coach, tender and loco bodies. It was interesting to see that you were sent a Hornby HM2000 feedback controller too. Great for powering up locomotives up gradients and tighter curves. A note of caution though: you may know this, but they are unsuitable for coreless motors and might put some strain on older Triang loco motors. Some remagnetisation may be required. As for the Hornby and Wrenn train set for your next video, I would love to see the Wrenn one. I wasn't aware that Wrenn did entire sets, so to see that running would be very interesting. All the best to you, Pete.

Set preference? Both! 😂 Though the Wrenn set is particularly unusual. At 32:49 it is of course a very early Triang Jinty body - I believe it was the second locomotive after the Princess produced by Triang Rovex. The later ones were always 47606 too until they retooled her in the 70’s/80’s with the motor driving the front axle. It’d be great to fit a chassis to that Jinty body and get her up and running again. My 1960’s Synchrosmoke 47606 (a birthday present when I vas 6) is still a stalwart, though repainted in gloss BR unlined black with separate handrails, real coal, red painted side rods (depot « pet ») and an Airfix five pile motor. Still one of my all time favorites. Fascinating video as always. Thanks. Rob

Hello Robin, it was funny, I had that little loco in my hand but it looked so unlike the Jinty's I'm used to. It would be good to get it operational. All the best to you
@robinforrest7680
@robinforrest7680 2 года назад
@@MrSnooze I guess a chassis shouldn’t be difficult to find - they must have made many thousands of them over the years. Though this one seems to be clear between smoke box and footplate whereas mine (I have two) both have a screw fixing into the chassis here - the rear of the chassis has two lugs cast into it which fit into slots over the rear buffer beam. My original 47606 has a synchrosmoke unit, whereas the other one has space for the earlier Seuthe type smoke tube cast in the chassis there and is obviously an earlier one.

That is really quite a collection of old goodies you've been sent. I recognise the old Tri-ang Jinty body as I have one tucked away myself, 3 in fact all different stages of their evolution, the earliest is very warped. Interesting to see the Graham & Farish body but a shame you don't seem to have the tender and mechanism, I've never seen one of their early OO scale locomotives but do have some coaches and wagons from when they went mostly N scale but still produced OO scale versions of some rolling stock. I don't think you'll find the Hornby controller as good as the Guagemaster and may not be as friendly to your models as it's a feedback controller. The two train sets look very nice and I would like to see both in the future but the Wrenn is probably the one to start with, it is in the second edition Wrenn catalogue I have along with a smaller R1 goods set and a West Country Pullman set, apparently it cost £20.37 at the time.
