Brilliant performance from an artist the world is still catching up to. So refreshing to hear the guitar played as an instrument of honest expression, not just as a vehicle for trotting out the usual litany of cliche licks - what a sound! - and great bass and drums. 10 out of 10.
@@barryb4407 The original as in Rowland's version on Pop Crimes, or the original as in the Talk Talk version? I personally have no time for the Talk Talk version at all..... this is a great improvement. Gimme Rowland any day
@@robstrange hmmm maybe I was ignorant here, I thought talk talk made the first version of this song, sorry to all for my last comment if that was not the case. Who made this song first?
@@robstrange Regards to who's version you prefer, either way Mark and Tim are still the brilliant minds that composed the song. Roland obviously acknowledged this by covering it!
If you haven't seen the documentary, Autoluminescent: Rowland S. Howard It's only $2.99 on here. It's well worth it. I'm actually new to his music. He didn't get much play in America. Great documentary about a really intelligent brilliant guy. I'm late to the (Birthday) party. But hey...I made it
if on any given day you find yourself feeling down, think how fortunate you are to have existed on Earth at the same time as Rowland S Howard. You will feel better soon after.
Wow a little hard on the guy I think. He's dying of cancer singing a song about life and choices, but not on drugs as you state. I'm not saying you have to like the song the way he played it, Rowland and his guitar playing is not everyone's cup of tea; but obviously the song spoke to him and this is his take on it. Sheesh.
- Rowland S Howard wasnt on drugs during this performance...he was dying of cancer. This was one his last gigs and he already knew that he was dying. This isnt a video of someone fucked up on drugs, - it's a video of someone dying of cancer.
@@icommunication- no, he had liver cancer. He used to visit my ex and I with his then girlfriend who is one of my closest friends. Was an awful time to see such a funny, understated legend in such vicious pain.
I really wanted to slate this cover as the song is one of my all time favourites (ergo nobody can do a truly great cover) but when you factor in his cancer and the twist on the optimistic lyrics through morose music it kinda makes sense.
Respect to the man for playing whilst being so sick. But this is the sound of something else dying.....a beautiful, great song by Mark Hollis and Talk Talk.
always wondered mark heard and what he thought of it, as they were both playing around in the 80s. I think he'd have loved it as he delved into weird post rocky territory with later talk talking was fairly anti recording industry.
This song was originally by Talk Talk, about 1983. It is a great song. Yes Rowland was extremely ill with liver cancer at this time and really it was remarkable that he travelled all that way and managed to do the show at all.
Wow I've heard of drugs, sex and rock and roll but never do the drugs while doing the rock n roll part. Fuck this is the worst Talk Talk cover I've ever seen.
