Ruthie is just the best, I saw a comment recently which stated someone preferred the film version of this song. They are entitled to their opinion of course but what the hell?? I love 0.42 when she giggles suggestively at the dancer to her left, it encapsulates he extreme and intense ability in the role! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HER!
Personally, I'm not sure which one I like better. I adore the movement in this one, but I love how when watching the movie version you really feel like she's sort of pathetic. Both are great!
she reminded me of mo collins from mad tv at the beginning of the act. I love how she punctuates her words completely different from the movie version.
This is the Original London Cast after Bebe and Ann opened theirs in NYC. Reinking choreographed this, so it's the SAME show and costumes. You can buy the london cd with Ruthie as Roxie. Ruthie is the best vocal Roxie available. She actually, sing, belts, growls and acts her way through every song. She's Amazing. Years later Ruthie did Velma on Broadway and London making her one of the few headliners to ever play both!!
I prefer her as Roxie, I don't know why but her voice as Velma seems a little over the top. It's sort of the same voice she uses when she's sings "Anything you can do, I can do better" on the "Sound of Musicals" programme but it suits that. I love what the male dancers do in this, it's so controlled.
