I am amazed that Ferry spent more time thanking all the musicians and technical people who helped them, rather than patting himself and his band on the back. Then again, he IS a gentleman.
I always enjoyed the musical company of Mr. Ferry and I wish him lots of healthy productive future years , what a great representant of British culture he is
Apparently, when he and his son were on the British Airways flight to Kenya when the hijacker got into the cockpit and forced the plane into a dive, his son said something like, "Fucking hell, we're all going to die", and Bryan Ferry allegedly replied, "Stop swearing". That's cool under pressure.
I finally saw him in Boston on his last tour. My life is complete now. I have adored Bryan forever and Roxy music changed my life. Well done and thanks for the majestic music you have given us.
what a class act, mentioning all the GREAT studio and band musicians that created that NECTAR OF THE GODS sound called Roxy Music; I got emotional when I heard him mentioning all those names...memories of reading the album credits
Roxy Music offered up a cool, suave and often romantic sound. The band was comprised of truly great musicians who worked hard to achieve their unique sound. Many thanks, Brian Ferry and bandmates! Many thanks to WMMS (Cleveland, OH) and in particular, Kid Leo, for playing a LOT of Roxy's music back in the 1970s.
I was listening to "Avalon" while watching a muted TV when the channel was interrupted to cover the Challenger disaster. To this day, I cannot hear this most beautiful Roxy Music song without seeing that picture in my mind....
Chris Spedding goes right back to the Let's Stick Together album and is seen on stage with Bryan quite regularly. You ca also see him on the concert DVD of Jeff Wayne's 'War of the Worlds' where he plays with legendary bassist Herbie Flowers.
Back in the days I was a nerd and read EVERYTHING on the cover outside, inside, the sleeves, the books - everything! And I must confess: Bryan didn't forget anybody who was involved doing their albums plus the band of this performance. But he forgot Amanda Lear, who was on the cover of the legendary and mindblowing "For Your Plesure" album. He is the man!
out of all the UK born bands that Ive ever seen or listened to, Roxy Music became "gentleman statesmen" without even trying...Ive heard the Stones music in every sort of place from bathhouses to hospital lounges. Ive heard The Who's music everywhere from amusement parks to the music you hear on your phone as you're waiting for a sales rep from Amazon to pick up...but Roxy Music was the band you heard 'on the box', when you went to the very "with it" pool party somewhere in Palm Springs or Hollywood Hills. They were always too cool for us common folk.
Roxy seduced us. A potent mix of style, substance and glamour that no- one else could achieve. When I first heard For Your Pleasure, that was it. Hooked!
Amazing!! Great Man Huge Class Bryan Ferry & Great Band Beautiful thanks to all those who are or were involved with the band Roxy Music Fantastic memory Applause
Viva Roxy Music! Greatest art rock band of all time. If you don't have their first four albums, go buy them now. All their albums are fantastic, but you can't go wrong with the first four.
Make that the first five! Siren is one of their most acclaimed albums, and while maybe a bit of a transition album, still much closer to the art rock of the first 4 than of the slick disco/pop of the later years.
Stop dividing people with politics etc...learn to treat people with respect , no one owes you anything ...just keep being positively cool like Ferry & move forward ...blessings to all ..be inspired ..we're here to learn & teach each other how to live & be at peace !
what a Legend this Guy is the Cream of Romantic New Wave"s Soft Pop Music 70s/80s/90s/2000/2010/2020 and beyond...? I was lucky enough watching him twice live in Australia...???? Without Bryan Ferry 80s music would be boring as an Teenager...? What a Legend...
And then there's his solo career! Avalon for Roxy Music is like Aja for Steely Dan. It just doesn't get any better. I'll bet they were surprised to be inducted. Even Supertramp can't get in!
Come on, you have to give credit for Brian Ferry's memory, that was amazing. He just reeled off all those names like he was walking through the park, incredible. No dementia there.
what a band roxy music were- i remember seeing virginia plan on totp in 72 and going straight down shop next day and buying it- i can still remember playing it and being fooled by the false start and thinking i had been sold a duff vinyl pressing- what a great first record- still sounds fresh and new even over 50 years later- a top 5 record with a moog synthesizer solo-unheard of !
I think Bryan Ferry will have been sorry he forgot to give a shout out for his late and great art mentor Richard Hamilton. But in all fairness he did remember a lot of names over a long and brilliant carear. VIVA ROXY MUSIC.
Where was Paul Thompson? He was a flipping legend! I wonder why he wasn't there on the stage as he was a major part of the band. Paul also stuck around for years.... I saw him with Brian in Rome several years ago!
I'm surprised he left out Robert Fripp. Ferry auditioned for the lead singer position in King Crimson after Greg Lake left and while the band didn't think it was a good fit, they saw something in Bryan and helped him start Roxy Music. The bands lyricist, Peter Sinfield, even produced the first album.
