Can you fall in love in a moment? Yes. Winter of 85 I had been dating this girl for a few months and we’d had a party at my house. It was the wee hours of the morning just she and I in my living room. Everyone else has either left or gone to bed. We’re a little buzzed and this song comes on. She gets up and just starts swaying and dancing so sweet and slow. She puts her hand out and takes my hand to come dance with her and it was like a lightning bolt I fell in love with her right there. 34 years later two kids and it still gives me chills when she reaches out to take my hand and dance. This song will always be special to me.

My wife and I met when I was in my late thirties back in the mid nineties. It was love at first sight. She would tell me that I reminded her of Bryan Ferry, whilst I used to say she looked like Cybil Sheperd, the actress from Moonlighting. Unfortunatley we were in a motorcycle accident three and a half years after we were married. She died at the scene with me holding her hand. Now I am 69 and this song always makes me smile as I remember the two of us getting drunk and dancing around our apartment to this song. In the months after my wife's death my world just seemed to stop and turned in on itself. I stopped living and just existed. As the months passed I tried to make sense of who I was, what my life was going to be like and would I ever be able to love again (this turned out to be no). During this period two pieces of music seemed to encapsulate my feelings, thoughts and emotions. They were, Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve and Ordinary World by Duran Duran.

I first watched this movie when I was living alone in Tokyo back in 2007 and never understood why people didn't like the movie that much. Having lived alone in Tokyo for almost a year, I understood how real this movie was. You could be surrounded by millions of people moving like water around you but yet be alone as if you were walking through a massive forest.

I've never seen that movie. But I can relate to it it by what happened to me years back. I'd been recruted by a competitor in advertising production. A thirty something girl has been delegated to me for, you know, where's the coffee machine, introduce me to the support staff and all. Some weeks later, there was the company's golf tournament and PR. Some major clients invited, some I've spoken with their people, but never met yet. I asked her to accompany me and introduce me as they knew her well. All went great. Then, we he had the company's Holiday Season dinner and soirée in a 5 star hotel in Montréal. Then SHE asked me to be her companion, just after being dumped from her 4 or 5 years companion, weeks before. Jerk. Which I did'nt know. Of course, Saskia, I'll be glad to do so ! I was then married in a so so relation... She was kind of a librarian style, you know, an intellectual kind of girl with big round glasses.. No frills. When I picked her up at her appartment, I fell on my knees ! Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction in person ! 😳 Could'nt believe my eyes ! Long, long winter black coat, new black haircut, no big eyeglasses, the whole transformation ! We spent the evening talking, dancing a bit. I was completely overwhelmed by her. We left early, looking for a cool jazz bar to talk. The company had room reservations for mid-execs like me for not to drive intoxicated - which I was mildly, her, huum... We spent the night talking, in the nude, but nothing sexual happened, me just listening, like Bill Murray here. Me, all infatuaded by her. She cried all of her tears on my shoulder. We said goodbye the morning after. "More than this". She resigned a few days later and went back to her family, many miles away. Never heard about her despite seeking for her. What happened to her ? I don't know. This happened 25 years ago. I still think about her with love. A chance in a million. Oh well... 😰 Me, now at 70 y.o. alone, I still long for her.

The magic of meeting someone new that you instantly connect with physically and emotionally. You spend years in love, sharing your most intimate secrets that no one else knows, nor would understand. The message exchanges are endless, and late into the night when you are apart. The times together are mind blowing, but despite trying and risking everything we can't be together! It ends with everyone getting hurt! The memories will never fade, and I always think about you (TJ) and this song.

This became our song after meeting in 1986 and going on a first coffee date. She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, shy and scared, but she soon trusted my presence and her confidence grew. 48 years later, after much water flowing under the bridge, she still mesmerising me with her beauty and charm. Whenever we hear this song, inevitably, the hugs, kisses and memories come naturally ❤️

More Than This Roxy Music I could feel at the time There was no way of knowing Fallen leaves in the night Who can say where they're blowing As free as the wind And hopefully learning Why the sea on the tide Has no way of turning More than this, there is nothing More than this, tell me one thing More than this, there is nothing It was fun for a while There was no way of knowing Like dream in the night Who can say where we're going No care in the world Maybe I'm learning Why the sea on the tide Has no way of turning More than this, you know there is nothing More than this, tell me one thing More than this, you know there is nothing More than this nothing More than this More than this nothing
