I will never forget watching this and my Grandad saying “more like Poxy Music” Good old boy. Miss him and my Nan every day.

Roxy Music is the only band I've ever experienced that is in the past, present and future ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!!

Went to a Mott the Hoople concert at the Santa Monica civic auditorium ( excellent) around 1973 I believe and of course they were excellent, got home and In Concert was on TV at the time , Roxy Music was performing and they were so unique. I got hooked and became a fan. Saw them the next year at the civic doing their County life tour. So original. Love their first 5 albums. Sadly they became somewhat commercial after returning from the break. The space rock music was missing.

This band was so far ahead of its time there's no sense talking about it. Loved Manzanera and Thompson...

Agree. Roxy had 100% absolute class & style. You didn't get Roxy in one take. Well I didn't. I had to listen to quite a few songs several times before I got the gist of it i.e. comprehension/understanding. Of course 'Jealous Guy' was an entirely different story - one got the gist of that pretty quickly....but I' meaning say 'A Song For Europe' and 'Sea Breezes'...I expected a song title 'Sea Breezes' to be sort of melancholic, rhythmic, and soothing...well there's really nothing of the sort of all 3 in the song. It's not melancholic, there's definitely not much of a rhythm going, and it tends to irritate me rather than soothe me...And I guess that's why I like Roxy because as I say in the odd song you've just got to listen to it multiple times before the starts to connect with me. I like that sometimes. All their hits one can get straight off one listening, however there's nothing like a 'B' Side track to make you inquire what the fark is this is all about?

I saw RM less than a month later on their first US tour. On 12/18/72 they played at the Whiskey Au Go Go in Los Angeles. That performance is finally on you tube and it is fantastic! Great quality sound and rocking band. I'm jealous of my 16 year old self.

I don't think Roxy Music of the first 2 albums was fully realised. They made a huge switch and left the really interesting sound behind even though they still followed a brilliant path but oh, if that original path had continued the world would have seen something we never have.

I agree! This early stuff was so weird and brilliant - threre was the sense that any minute they could devolve into a doo-wop band or into complete avant-garde noise. And you never knew which!

Probably the most unique, original band ever. And still going! On their first U.S. tour the "critics" didn't know what to make of them and so were pretty dismissive.

Manzanera's solo at the end of "Ladytron" is nice n almost psychedelic here! Eno usually put his effects on it then had a solo on the VCS 3..great!

Great with eno, unfortunately left after the second album. Still great with jobson. After the 5th album siren, they took a break and were never the same , ,still good but not edgy or raw like the music of the early albums. I miss the early bizarre space rock.

You can check out Eno in full flight wiht better audio and video quality on the Beat Club sessions. Roxy did two shows the first with Eno and the second with Jobson. But yeah there is something about Eno that makes RM a supergroup.

I remember Full House (and it’s successor Second House) very fondly. The best arts programmes the BBC ever produced. I also remember this performance less fondly. I love the Roxy of this period, but the sound and balance here are dreadful - though pretty typical for the period. At the time I blamed Eno, who I believe had some control over the sound via the VCS3, but hearing this again I think it’s down to the broadcast. Sorry Brian ..l

I saw RM on BBC 2's ' Full House'( FH was a really good Arts programme), and later saw them live on stage . They were terrific, then, before Ferry's ego took control....Great 'Historical Document' ,but what's with the awful banner across the screen...Ugh!
