I'm 64 and I never saw guitar mastery like this......not even close. Roy Buchanan was making it look so easy. On stage he'd be the GOAT today..or had fate landed him in a big band ......he'd of been it. Clapton nor SRV could not play like this in ten lifetimes. This is God given magic. Roy was a Gem. My God ...he can do anything on guitar.

There's guitar pickers and there are masters and then there's Roy. He's up there in a that rarified air where only a very few reside. I also liked the fact that he shopped at Good Will. I once owned a coat just like his pants that I bought a a small Good Will shop in Lawton Okla. Every now and then on a Saturday nite when I really wanted to look my best I would put it on. Man, a plaid coat or pants, that really throws the local hipsters.

Speed, pinch harmonics, chicken pickin', soul melting volume swells, picking a note bent at tone and bringing it down like the kids would do with a whammy bar, come on, the man was light years ahead of his time and s.r.v.'s imagine what blues would sound like today if Buchanan, Gallagher, and srv were still alive, which barring their tragic deaths they would be.

quarrydawg Man oh Man you picked a nice threesome there (same three I favor too). Yeah Rory G. was little known in the USA but boy with Roy and Rory you didn't listen to the blues, more like you felt every note was from your soul when they played. These guys and BB King showed me where my heart and soul belonged as far as what I fell in love with as a musical happy place. Roy had his demons, they all did, but for all these sad endings well sad bthough they may be doesn't the sadness make the blues they all left us a small bit better and bluesier.

Plaid polyester double knit slacks. Very cool in the day_ ugh 70's. One of the greatest if not the greatest guitarists; at least in the sense of tone and outre gimmickry, but a sartorial disaster none the less. Roy was definitely a one off masterpiece. Bending notes for sure but I've read where Roy also customized things like his speakers. They say he would often take a razor blade to his speakers to create distortion. He also created new ways to use the knobs on the telecaster. If interested you can research it on google.

He was essentially as evolutionary on the telecaster as Hendrix was on the Stratocaster... Mark Raz...dude...this may not be your cup of tea but you are probably making the same comments on Miles Davis clips...and maybe even Duane Allman....you need to go have a nap...
@rdkg2
@rdkg2 10 лет назад
Mr.Raz just may not have an ear for this. Bending notes creates new notes between notes. Some western ears have a problem picking it up. It creates a whole new, to them, harmony. Much eastern music is the same way. There is a huge difference in being out of tune and just creating a new and different note be it major or minor. Being tone deaf is more than just being out of tune some are just deaf to certain tones.. Do-Ra-Me-Fa-So-La-te-Do. then there's Do.1-Ra.1-Me.1-Fa.1-So.1-La.1-Te.1-Do.1 and so on if you have the skill. Producing many different new harmonies. If we have the ear to hear. Thank God for diversity. It makes life and music so much more beautiful and complex. But for the others Mary Had A Little Lamb has a nice standard tone.
