The most telecaster telecaster that ever telecasted.

I saw Roy in the late seventies in a bar in the Twin Cities. He completely ROCKED THE HOUSE DOWN. Like Robbie Robertson said 'The worlds greatest unknown guitarist' I was washing my car one day a couple of years ago with Livestock cranked up. A old buddy came walking up and said "I haven't seen you in 20yrs and you are still playing the same f*****g song". Yes I am.

I, on the other hand, saw Roy at the Guthrie in the early or mid 70's and was extremely disappointed. Maybe I expected too much.

I had the good fortune of seeing Roy many times here in Toronto. He was playing his 1953 tele then and bringing the house down every night. He truly was an innovator and pioneer on the electric guitar and those who were lucky enough to see him live know exactly what I am talking about!

Somehow I feel as if at least one of those shows was at the old Birchmere. Or possibly Tornado Alley in MD. Anyone who saw Danny and or Roy saw something very very special.

@@Sivadtu I am really sketchy on the Buchanan shows, I want to say I saw him at a couple Smithsonian sponsored events. My dad would drag us down to DC to catch a lot of those shows - typically free. Wish I could have appreciated them more. I do remember the article in the Wash Post when he died and the tragic circumstances. As far as Gatton goes (by then I'd finally gotten a clue and started paying attention) I saw him at the Cellar Door on numerous occasions as well as other venues. I used go to the Birchmere routinely, especially to see the Seldom Scene (If my memory serves me, they played every Thursday). Fantastic venue, you'd sit at a large communal picnic table and everyone would take turns buying pitchers of beer. I still try and catch a show at the new location whenever I'm in DC. Not quite the same vibe but still a wonderful venue.

I had a few of Roy's albums with the Snakestretchers. My favorite track was 'The Messiah Will Come Again', which I used to play cranked up for my Mom. She loved it, especially when Roy would make the guitar cry like a seagull, she couldn't believe that sound was coming from a guitar.

Holy CATS! What a pedigree: Danny Gatton's trickery on Roy's guitar! It's astounding how such a humble model gained such lore, and while it's arguably one of if not the most versatile guitar, there's absolutely an elite squad that have made that so. Worth the whole crew led by Captain Norm doing it up right!

Roy Buchanan was a man ahead of his time , my late father saw him live and the man was doing tapping , pinched harmonics sweep picking etc 10 years before guys like Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai were famous , and was unique as no one else apart from Jimmy Page ever played like this on a Telecaster. RIP Roy Buchanan the most underrated world class player of them all.
