On a recent family trip to Las Vegas, I made sure to add Best Friend to our itinerary...based purely on what I had seen of Roy Choi on _The Chef Show_ (Netflix). I scoped out the menu online before we even left home, and I already knew what I wanted to try. The Kimchi, Street Corn, and Chego Pork Belly rice bowl were all really pleasant...comfort food, turned up a notch. The Kogi Taco was...well...I now understand how he built an empire from a simple L.A. food cart. It was, hands down, the best taco I've ever had...a revelation...like tasting street tacos for the very first time!!! Then there was the Uni Dynamite rice bowl. My teenage son, upon taking his first bite, said, "Holy shit!"...and after my first bite, I had to agree!!! The balance of flavors, textures, and spicy heat were absolutely phenomenal! Finally, we decided to finish the meal with the Gochujang Pot De Creme, a chocolate mousse that bites back. The incorporation of Korean chili paste into a chocolate mousse (topped with homemade whipped cream and spicy chopped pecans) created...again...a perfect balance of flavors, textures, and just a bit of a tingle on the tonsils. Best Friend is officially on my _Every Time I'm In Vegas_ list! P.S. In addition, DJ Kriscut spent the whole evening smoothly blending all the dance hits of the last three decades (at a perfect volume), which made the whole place feel like a party!
Out of all the big times chefs in the world. I want to sit down and try Roy's food while having a conversation. Maybe help him make dumplings and talk shit. Lol
