The Late Roy Cooper was perhaps one of the most unusual artists to appear in the cultural limelight of Trinidad & Tobago. Some 70 years ago (add maybe 30-40 years extra since this record got released), this talented son of the soil was born in a small village in Sangre Grande, North East Trinidad. As a young man, Roy was greatly impressed by the singing and life style of his revered Ustad, Prem Ramdhanie. So moved was he that he felt it inevitable to imitate his Ustad. In fact, from the outset, Roy manifested his natural skills. Given to learn three songs in a week, as a test by his teacher Ramdhanie, Roy learned and sang them almost impeccably, in only two days.
Roy Cooper has been described as a singer of exceptional class. He competed against such repetable singers as Ramdhani Sharma, James Ramsewak, Haniff Mohammed, Henry 'Tooloom' Dindial and Ramcharitar at national competitive level. With his electrifying and commanding voice, he proves to be an ideal foil for Abdool Kush Razack in this unique Tent Singing Treat.
Now this is a posthumously record for Roy Cooper. His songs were probably recorded at a radio station or somewhere else. So the starting and ending of this song might sound weird, but that's how it came off of the vinyl.
Enjoy!
