I thought it was his nephew who smugled that bullet to Nino. Nino was lying there for weeks, not giving his permission to remove the bullet. Doctors said it his body would push it out eventually since it wasnt that critical or bad wound despite it being on neck or head area. Dominick and Roy devised this plan to switch bullets, Dom visited Nino and made the switch. Nino, who was under constant police guarding so that he wouldnt be able to toss away the bullet once it came out of the wound. Nino scratched the wound when his guards eyes were not on him and flushed the actual bullet down the toilet and presented the switched one as the actual bullet. Atleast thats how it went according to "Murder Machine" book.

Side note: Patrick Penny was the witness who called the cops on Nino and Roy after the Eppolito hits. He also testified against Nino in court. Gaggi could have had Penny killed at any time during the trial, but feared what he may face at sentencing so he waited. He assigned the hit to Roy. Penny had been warned by detectives that his life was in danger and he should leave town. Vito Arena tracked down Penny and alerted Roy. They stalked him on 5/12/1980, Roy, Vito and Richie DiNome. Roy was so bloodthirsty that even after the crew was questioned by police he refused to abandon the plan. Roy shot him dead in the street and the same person who called the cops on the suspicious trio earlier called them again. The next day, the front page of the New York Times read “Mob Witness Rubbed Out”.

He did seem like a through and through mafioso of the old school though. I remember Dominic talking about the sitdown to affirm Paul as the boss and Niel the underboss at Nino's house after Carlo Gambino died. Even though noone was supposed to have guns at the sit-down, Nino placed Dominic(a former Vietnam Green Beret) in the upstairs window overlooking the only exit from the house. Nino gave him a fully automatic rifle(I believe it was a 30 m2 carbine but could be mistaken, it's been awhile since I read his book) and told him "if anybody goes out before I come up and tell you everything is OK, especially if you hear shots, kill everyone who comes out the door." Sammy. You got a few things wrong about this but thanks for sparking my memory. The beef was Jimmy and his son, well his son got ripped off by Roy in one way or another over drug's. Jimmy went to Paul and told Paul that Roy and Nino were dealing drug's and asked for permission to kill Roy and Nino. Paul told Nino and Roy what Jimmy had said and asked gave Roy and Nino permission to Kill Jimmy and his son. Under false pretenses which Jimmy should of known better Roy and Nino invited Jimmy and his son to a peace deal and a sit down at the Gemini lounge. So eventually Jimmy and his son meet up with Roy, Nino, Peter and pick them up. Jimmy's son was driving and Jimmy was in the passenger seat. I think Jimmy knew something was about to go down and started insisting that his son pull over because he had to piss. Roy Nino and Peter executed Jimmy and his son in broad daylight in the car. Roy was able to take off on foot meanwhile Nino and Peter were being followed by a witness who eventually tried to hail down a cab to call the police.. IT just so happened that the cab driver was a housing cop moonlighting for extra money and tried to stop Nino and Peter. By this time Roy already took off.I don't know to much about Peters role but I think he was bamboozledand had no clue what was about to go down or he did know but didn't expect it to happen like it did but he did take part in the shooting. And yes Roy did try and switch up the bullet at this point though Nino was in the hospital ward on Rikers Island. I forget the whole story. I think one of the jurors was bribed in this case. The crazy thing about this whole thing one of the responding officers to the shooting was Louis Eppolito Jimmy Eppolitos first cousin. That's right the responding officer's was one of the Mafia cop's Louis Eppolito and Steven Carracappa. Imagine that. What a coincidence.

Because when your in that life, the story travels from those who survived. Especially from Nino who survived. He had to explain on how everything went down to his boss and other men who were looking for answers so they could have an alibi in case the police come around.

I love the slight little smirk Sammy gets when some beats the charges they are 100% guilty of.

I don’t think he would’ve flipped either. Paul may have killed him more so because he was bringing too much heat. Him and his crew killed a young girl who just happened to be in a car with an informant and it was a big news story.

From Wikipedia. On October 1, 1979, Gaggi and DeMeo shot and killed both Eppolitos. However, a witness alerted an off-duty policeman, who soon found Gaggi walking away from the crime scene (DeMeo had gone in a different direction). After a brief shootout, the policeman wounded Gaggi in the neck and arrested him. Although charged with the murders, and the attempted murder of the police officer, Gaggi was only convicted of assault. He was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in federal prison. While Gaggi was in prison, DeMeo became acting capo of Gaggi's crew. In 1981, Gaggi's sentence was overturned on appeal and he was released from prison. Gaggi had bribed a juror to make false claims of government misconduct during the trial.

One thing about watching Sammy's videos make mme rather sad when I think about things. I love the stories, and the first hand history presented to us, the viewers, in Sammy's videos. It make me wish I had been a bit more aware when I was a much younger man and took time to sit down and listen to stories from my Grandmother, and some older family members from her generation when I had the chance. Especially Grandma. My grandfather was a Texas Ranger for most of his career. He passed away long before I was born so I never had the pleasure, and privilege of knowing him. The stories I could have learned from Grandma would have been priceless to me today. Thank you ever so much for the stories Mr. Gravanno!

My grandma grew up in Hell’s Kitchen. I used to hear Westies stories from her before she died a few years ago. Very interesting.
