@@balorgalore5629 We have something similar in Serbia. "The ball can get past you, player can't" : ) But Serbian and Irish people have mutual, distant history so it's no surprise.
@@ryanh3285it does make a difference, of course it does. Doesn’t mean you can’t be an excellent dribbler if you’re a bit on the taller side, there’s just a specific type of dribbling that most shorter players have thanks to their lower centre of gravity. They will generally have the agility and balance to turn direction quicker than a taller player and are hard to knock off the ball. If you’re tall it doesn’t matter too much how strong you are, if you’re off balance at any point you’re a lot more likely to get knocked completely off balance in comparison to small players
@@ryanh3285 Higher center of gravity and longer legs are not your friends when you want to be a truly great dribbler. There’s a reason why the 3 greatest dribblers ever are 5’7” and shorter, and why very, very, very few truly legendary dribblers are taller than 5’11”.
I remember Zidane in the 2000 euros - possibly the greatest individual performance of all time. Every single game in that tournament, he was just taking the piss, doing absolutely anything he wanted. Destroying teams on his own. Reminiscent of Maradonna at the 1986 World Cup
He was 6'2 and moved gracefully, had an attitude and was tough as a granite biscuit. When Roy Keane says he was the toughest, well, I'll take that. Two cracking players from another era. They'd both be serving time these days, let alone a two week ban .
@@goinfishinalba9811 his career was fine, he retired due to a knee injury on the other leg. Plus.....he did it to Keano first and told him "stop crying like a b*tch and get up" after Haaland had torn Roy's knee up badly. Don't dish it out if you can't take it, Haaland was one of the nastiest tacklers of that era.....even his son watches him and cringes
@@beniteztheconmanKeane was one of the toughest players in history. We’re not talking about fighting ability, just genuine toughness on the field, never backing away from a challenge. So when Keane says someone is tough, take his word for it lol
@@rickyjones2346 yep 100%. Unfortunately, it’s rare to see players who have even a small percentage of the passion and pride his generation of players have these days. Especially at United
R9 for me obviously two different positions, yes Zidane had incredible ball control but there’s nothing he could do that R9 couldn’t. Not the same the other way around, and also Zidane said himself that he’s never seen anybody like Ronaldo (R9)
@@panic7659 R9 couldn't inspire a team single handedly to wc final. He had Romario, Cafu, Roberto Carlos and others to help him in 1998 but Zidane did it in his twilight years. The French team was nightmare for that Brazilian team and entire Brazilian team used to fear Zidane.
@@abhishekpodder7594 Thuram, Desailly, Lizarazu, petit, Djorkaeff, aye all that lot needed inspired, shut up! Every body that came up against ronaldo was simply in awe and terrified of him “single handedly”. Better than maradonna! Fuck them injuries he got
Yes typical keane but it makes sense here coz when you think of greatest midfielders xavi, iniesta, kroos, modric none of them are nasty and leaders like zidane. Zidane is like the mixture of their technical quality and keane's nastyness and leadership.
@@ankaramesi3824 Yes . Zidane was a great combination of tecnique, physicality and leadership. Size sure helped as unlike small midfielders like Xavi, iniesta and Modric and like keane said , Zidane was big and strong.
The last time Keane played against Zidane was in a 2006 World Cup qualifier which the brilliant french team won 1-0 but it was Keane's last great performance for Ireland and Zidane was taken of with 10 minutes to go but when the final whistle went Zidane jogged from the dug out to Keane who was walking of the pitch away from the rest of the players and they shook hands and showed respect for each other and they faced each other 8/9 times in which Keane won 3 or 4 battles against the legend and both got 11 red cards in there careers and both ended there careers in mid 2006 and both were 34 years old but only a couple of months of 35.
@@MrGloryglorymanutd18 I don’t see any lie there. Both could give you something going forward and tracking back. There’s NO way you could bully them or get one over on technique. They’d be absolute MONSTERS, absolutely unplayable.
People don't realise how good some footballers really were before CR7 and Messi. Zidane was unreal, he literally embodied you're created midfielder on fifa😂. Ronaldinho was a baller. R9 arguably one of the best you'll ever see.
Thats what im talking about !!!! Ppl these days dont know shit , they just know Messi and CR7. Back in Zidane era , those 2 ppl just a regular football player 🤣
Keane tells the truth that the media tend to overlook. Zidane had bags of skill but he also kept that pugnacious quality he learned from the streets! Try to F*ck with him & e prepared to pay the price!
Been Algerian, I’ve follow Zidane his whole career. People have no idea how nasty he was! One bad tackle and he would let you know right away! Hot head whit magician feet. Usually doesn’t mix well!
Exactly ppl don't know how great he was till this day, the control of the ball and dribbling and shielding, and having the vision the passing and shoot accuracy, controlling the tempo and leadership, and all of that is beside his hot temper lol which I like alot ❤
@@chozusmakavelli A 4-3-3 with Keane/Scholes/Zidane in the midfield, and Beckham/Cantona/Giggs in the front three. They could've won the Treble sooner.
Zizou could've played in a tuxedo and you would've still found it spotless by the end of the game. He glided across the pitch, he didn't run, he flew by other players, he didn't dribble them, he painted the passes and the shots, he didn't simply kick a ball, the man was pure class and elegance, imo he'll always be the best.
@@beniteztheconmanhe obviously wasn't as bad as you say when he won a PFA, FWA and a runner up in Ballon D'or. Not to mention he played Zidane, Davids and Deschamps off the field in 99
Old school defenders I can’t rate as highly but to be an old school attacking player back in the day, I have to rate. Especially ZiZou. The toughness you have to endure to play back in the day and Zidane looked like a swan. So elegant when football was so rough .
Old school defenders were what made the game great, and yes what made players like Zidane and Ronaldo great. So saying that you can’t rate them highly is essentially contradicting your own statement.
@@kayman1old school defenders could get away with so much more than they can now. It’s crediting the attackers more bc they had to endure what the defenders could do to them back then.
I share the exact same thoughts. Modern defenders and midfielders are far more athletic and technical, but not allowed to rough up the opposition. The positions are barely even comparable nowadays. Zidane was taking bumps and riding off them with the ball. Modern players hit the floor cos they know the ref will blow the whistle. I always say a ronaldo or messi may not have been that great if they played in the 70s, 80s and even 90s because who knows how they would react to those defenders. As a one off i imagine they just continue playing their game, but if its every week and the refs aren't handing out cards for minimal offences then i see their playstyles change or they have a lot of injuries and a shorter career. Zidane would take a bump and was still had complete control.
I’m 54 and there are 2 greats who stood out for me. Maradona, and Zidane There have been many just a whisker behind them. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, messi etc. all greats but those 2 ❤️❤️👌
Yeah maradonna was a fantastic cheat, and when it came to knocking out illegitimate children and being a drug addict he was a master. Id love to see what zidane would have done to him if he punched france out of the world cup. He would have snapped him like a dry twig
And yeah im as old as you and was also watching mexico 86 and THAT is what maradonna will be remembered for. Great legacy. And getting thrown out of his last world cup was just the cherry on top. a shameless cheat, and a revolting little cretin of a man.
I reckon I wouldn’t mind getting stuck in an elevator with Roy in it. It seems that I just can’t ever get enough of listening to him talk and the way he tells stories. Its captivating lol
Kids now that just see Zidane in the compilation videos won't realize how good he was. I had the great pleasure of seeing him live several times, he was way ahead than everybody else. Different kind of player
People forget that putting aside both his incredible finesse and technique with the ball as well as his amazing ability to control games, Zidane was physically tough and slightly hot-headed as well. He got sent off many times including the most infamous one during the 2006 World Cup final. When Roy Keane said he is an angel next to someone like Zizou, you know the latter was truly something.
One thing about Zidane people do not know is during his early days he was 5x as scary as Roy Keane and getting red cards for his outbursts when he was at Bordeaux and Juve.
Genuine world class footballers have something unique about them,Maradona, Messi with their ball stuck to their wand of a left foot and with Zidane the way he even kicked a ball seemed way different to most and then it was the way he glided by people, a true football genius
Zidane is my 2nd favourite player ever after Cantona. Both French, both wonderfully skilful, both aggressive, both big boys 6ft2. Imagine them in the same side.
Scored my favourite goal of all time. *That* volley. If you don't know, you better get to know!! ....and of course he was always pirouetting around the pitch!
An honour that I got to see Zidane play in the United Legends vs Madrid Legends game at Old Trafford a few years ago. Even though he was miles past his prime, his technical ability was clear to see. You never lose it
I mean isn't the famous story that the Algeria coach at the time refused to pick him because he was so big that he thought he wouldn't be able to run well enough? And that's why he agreed to play for France?
