I'm almost 50 and have led quite a life! But if there's one song that's guaranteed to 'get it out' of my system when I'm feeling down, it's this song! Bless you Roy!
This concert was just 2 years after I met Roy Orbison doing a grand opening of a discount store in a parking lot,in a tiny suburb of Chicago! What a gentleman he was taking time to talk to a 12 year old girl and give me his autograph! I still have all his albums and that autograph ♥ There will never be another voice or gentleman like him ♥
Was a DJ when he burst upon the scene. Obvious as a singer and song writer this guy from Wink, TX and recording in Clovis, NM was headed for the top. 4 Octave voice. Still miss him and play him a lot on here.
This is 1965 at the peak of his career, and yet in the 1987 Black and white night concert he hits the big notes at the end with even more authority. A legendary voice that grew only richer with age. Roy is the boy and the boy is Roy.
I'm 22 years old...grown up with Queen,80's music and recently fallen in love with 50's and 60's music...it's sad when i talk about Roy and none of my friends has idea of who he was:-(
On this day in 1964 {June 25th} Roy Orbison's "It's Over" reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on the United Kingdom's Singles chart... Two months earlier on April 11th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #9 and spent 11 weeks in the Top 100... Roy Orbison passed away on December 12th, 1988 at the young age of 52... May he R.I.P.
THESE ARE HISTORIC VIDEOS. ROY ORBISON HAD THE TOP SOUND ON THE PLANET, THEN AND STILL TODAY. HE DID HIS STUDIO RECORDING ON A SINGLE TAKE. HE HAD GOD'S GIFT OF GOLDEN VOICE.
My 2:45 gut check. If you don't feel something after it, check for a pulse. Bruce Springsteen said Roy's music is best heard late at night, alone and with the lights off. If there's any one example of why, this is it. 50 years on, it still holds its power.
Came upon this one by accident. Like Streisand, Orbison could always nail it in concert, sometimes better than in the recordings. Look at those faces in this crowd - even those trying to look nonplussed (esp the guys) reveal the emotions by their eyes! This was an amazing performance!
Roy had such alot of tragedy in his life and alot of his songs are inspired by his personal life. God bless you Roy. They don't make songs like this nomore and thank god i grew up in a household where this sort of music was played and loved xxxx
Quit worrying about his eyes and realize he is as good a singer as any of the country singers today and in some cases even better. A lot of these new breed, so called country singers will fade away.Enjoy ROY like I did when I wore a younger man's clothes.
He was obsessed with his wife, crazy in love with her, and after she cheated on him, he was heartbroken but ultimately took her back, because he loved her so much... Not long after that, he lost 2 of 3 sons in a house fire, he was away on tour at the time. He had some tough cards dealt to him in life, poor old Roy ... RIP Legend
50 years on ..this song is flawless ..what an exceptional artist ..God bless you for giving us these songs ..wish I was around to have experienced them first hand ..but I was born too late ..named my daughter Leah ..before I knew you had a song with that title xxx
Hit after hit on our old transistor radios listening to AM on the beach. Roy was a comforting voice during the fear of the Cold War. His voice made us believe the USA would make it to the future. Thank you so much, Roy, for how much better you made our lives.
Most good singers u listen to goes from the outside the ear into ur head..... Only roy orbison sings from inside ur head.... Thats the difference in good.... AND GREAT!! simply the best voice ever..... ❤
The first time I saw Roy Orbison on television, I was amazed that this rather strange-looking man in black glasses, who looked like he wasn't even moving his mouth, and seemed totally unmoved by his glorious voice, was really Roy Orbison. I'd only listened to him on the radio up until that time and I expected someone who acted like Elvis. I'm glad that Black and White Night showed him how many people, professionals and ordinary people, were moved by his talent. I'm so glad that show was done before he died!
Very much so. If you refer to the 1987 In dreams the greatest hits album, I 100% agree with you, all the tracks were no different vocally, in fact I'd say some were better with the maturing of Roy's voice over the preceding 20+ years .
On this day in 1964 {April 17th} Roy Orbison performed "It's Over"* on the British TV's Friday evening musical variety program, 'Ready Steady Go!'... A little under ten weeks later on June 25th, 1964 "It's Over" would peaked at #1 {for 2 weeks} on the United Kingdom's Official Top 50 Singles chart... Between 1960 and 1992 the Vernon, Texas native had thirty seven records on the UK Singles chart, twelve made the Top 10 with three reaching #1, "Only The Lonely" for two weeks in October of 1960, the above "It's Over", and "Oh, Pretty Woman" for three non-consecutive weeks in October of 1964... He just missed having a third #1 record when his "Dream Baby (How Long Must I Dream)" peaked at #2 for two weeks in April of 1962... Sadly, Roy Kelton Orbison passed away at the young age of 52 on December 6th, 1988 {heart disease}... * And from the 'For What It's Worth' department, the remainder of the UK Top 50 Singles Top 10 for the week "It's Over" peaked at #1: #2, "Someone, Someone" by Brian Poole and the Tremeloes #3. "You're My World" by Cilla Black #4. "Hello, Dolly!" by Louis Armstrong #5. "My Guy" by Mary Wells #6. "Ramona" by the Bachelors #7. "Here I Go Again" by the Hollies #8. "You're No Good" by the Swinging Blue Jeans #9. "Shout" by Lulu and the Luvvers #10. "Can't You See That She's Mine" by the Dave Clark Five
I am 69 years old. I grew up listening to Elvis, Roy, Gene Pitney, the Beatles, the Rolling Stone, Jim Morrison. There is nothing since that has compared to them. I almost real sorry for today's youth, stuck as they are listening to studio enhanced and dubbed voices that aren't close to what I heard as a youth.
Donald Burgio I am 250 years old. I grew up listening to Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Hadyn, and the local folk songs of my village. There is nothing since that has compared to them. I am almost real sorry for today's youth, stuck as they are listening to electronically amplified and distorted guitars and voices through microphones that aren't close to what I heard as a youth.
Ya know...He was so unusual and talented...gifted...Out of this world songwriter. Only Texas could of produced this treasure. He must of heard that Mexican/ European style of singing....mixed with Country and Western. Also a very good guitar player. One of a kind.
Wow. Roy Orbison had a voice with emotion like no other. He was a rare man who will always be remembered. Deep. Very deep. Beautiful. Very beautiful music. Most of us can identify with his feelings.
Those (then) kids appreciated how lucky they were to see a maestro performing his masterpiece. Kids today are sickened if you let genuine emotion into their bubble.
