No flashing lights, no pathetic jokes, no costume changes, no dancers, he didn't need them. The audience sat in silence entranced by the unique voice of one of the greatest singers of all time. I know, I was in the audience. It was a privilege

I was lucky to have seen Roy in concert 3 times. The last two times at a small venue. He didn't need dancers, laser shows etc, he just stood there and sang. His voice would lift you out of your seat and drop you back down. I saw grown men with tears in their eyes (me included). Roy was the greatest and this is my all time favourite song.

The amazing thing about this is the high note he hits at the end. Orbison wrote this song, designed to build to that climax. To think that, 25 years after the original recording, in failing health and about a year before his death, he delivered this amazing performance of the same song is a testament to his talent.

There will be many others, now and in the future, who will grab our hearts and be memorable in their own way - but only for short moments in time. He sang this Capella to close his show in Reno in 1987 or 1988. It brought the house down, and the entire audience gave him a standing ovation.

I was lucky to see Roy twice, both were small venues with my mom. Today my mom is 90 years old with dementia. Her short term is totally gone but when I visit she can belt out every word to most of his songs. One of the best

All these artists like Bruce and the back up singers are all so genuinely happy to be on that stage with Roy.

What a fabulous singer, song writer and musician! This song, like many Roy did, touches my heart in ways that are unique only to him. Roy Orbison was one-of-a-kind and his like will never been seen again in this world, I must be content to play his recordings and watch his videos and still marvel at his talent. He is sorely missed.

Springsteen's face at the end sums this up. "I've just played on stage with ROY ORBISON!! Only ROY ORBISON!! Am I dreaming??"

Joe Melson, who lived here in Midland, Texas at the time he met Roy Orbison in the late 1950’s went on to collaborate with Roy on this song and others, including ‘Only the Lonely’ and ‘Crying’. Those songs were written here in Midland. If you lived in the remote West Texas city of Midland in the late 50’s as I did, you would be crying and lonely too! Roy met Elvis and Johnny Cash on the stage of the Midland High auditorium one fateful night in 1955. Both young singers would help launch Roy’s music career. I played my trumpet on that same stage many times in later years with the high school band. Roy and the Teen Kings performed on Saturdays on KMID-TV here and my mother, who was from Dallas and not a fan of rockabilly music would always refer to Roy as ‘Ooby Dooby’. She would make us turn off the TV when his show was on. When she turned 80, we had a birthday party for her in Dallas. I hired a Roy Orbison impersonator who was quite good. Mother enjoyed the joke. I, on the other hand, have always been a big fan of Roy, his amazing voice and his haunting songs.
