Ladies and gentlemen; behold a veritable musical genius.... AND a beautiful human being into the bargain. It's a privilege to be alive at the same time as this maestro. Roy, please live forever!
Absolutely brilliant, sadly only seen him once live which I reckon was about 97/98. He has more talent in his little finger than most so called musicians have these days!
I'm sad because I grew up in a very rural area of the southern USA, and I've never had a chance to experience his music and talent before. I did hear a few of his songs many years ago, but I'm discovering all his material now, and I'm loving it. Talent and class never go away, and this guy is a very underrated genius.
I remember it I was 14 at the time, Roy sang a track called French Perfume I immediately loved it and hummed it for years until it finally got released in 2000, only 23 years late. 😀
Ah Roy - what a genius ! I was at school when the the radio was playing his stuff with The Move. I'm retired now & he's still banging out the hits ! A knighthood PLEASE for this man !
I love Roy Wood he's awesome, he can play almost every instrument. He's a brilliant singer/ songwriter. He should be knighted for all that he's done for music. He's underrated in my opinion. I've loved since I was a young girl.
I am listening to him for about 45 years and never can get enough! Pure genius! Thanks for all that great stuff and all that different styles of music. Roy rocks! He's a real wiz(z)ard for sure!
Fire Brigade and Blackberry Way have got to be two of the catchiest pop tunes ever. ELO made some fine records that still sound great, but I was a teenager by then. In later life you realise that nothing comes close to the 'hits' of one's childhood for nostalgia.
legend. i saw roy and his band in colne back in 2010 doing a christmas show with mud 2 and a reformed showaddywaddy. the show was running late so roy wood and his band only came on at 11 pm, curfew time was 12 so we thought we whould get maybe a hour. the night ended at 1 am on christmas eve with everyone singing i wish it could be christmas everyday.
I had the pleasure of compering the night c: 1968/ Plymouth Guildhall, with The Move...Carl/Bev AND Roy. When they opened, they blew the place apart! Amazing...Thank you boys...
Really enjoyed this thanks for posting. Saw him with ELO and Wizzard back in the 70s in Manchester most of the audience at the Wizzard gig got a big shock when he played some heavy stuff off Wizzards brew including some great feedback off his guitar in front of the amps. The look on the faces of those expecting Angel Fingers was brilliant!! What a fabulous musician he is!!
The four non-hit numbers missing from Roy's set here are as follows : - 1/ Big Girl's Blues. 2/ New York City. 3/ Kiss Me Goodnight Boadicea. 4/ Roy's Revenge. (Drum solo by the man bashing the skins, Roy Adams).
As a tern in the early 70s I got ball park incident, from my record shop the man said did I want to get a copy of california man as well because he'd got some copies left wow how we miss independent record shops.
Brings back SO many memories.... thank you ToCo, footage and audio, very good, thanks to Roy and his band, camera men/women people who did the editing.... and ToCo offcourse!
I bloody love roy wood seen him a few times and he never fails to deliver a cracking show... a multi talented instrumentalist and musician ..and all round good egg .. you always have a fab time when you go and see roy he is without doubt one of the UKs best popular musicians... people like roy don't exist anymore I'm so glad he was part of my teenage years and beyond.
Would love to go see him myself but bloody gigging! Sounds great. I do Flowers in the rain in my set too! He's not coming up north that much only Harrogate and Scunthorpe this year (2017)(I'm based in Doncaster) Really want to be able to see him sometime! Music would have been a much sadder thing without his input! Who's the lady btw??:-)
No, she's Shell Naylor, who with her twin sister Shaz were known as the Naylor Twins in their own right, Shell and Shaz were both in Roy Wood's Army in the 1990's. Shell has been a part of Roy's band's for almost thirty years. Roy formed his Rock & Roll Band in 2005.
