Bomani Jones is joined by stand up comedian Roy Wood Jr. to breakdown the latest in the ongoing beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar. The guys discuss a couple questions about the beef including whether or not we get a response from Drake and if we think this beef is ultimately a draw? Roy then talks about why Kendrick Lamar tracks sound like research rap, while Bomani argues in favor of having lyrics with a deeper meaning below the surface. Finally, Roy wonders why we can't have beefs like back in the day which leads the guys on a road to reminisce about some of the best and worst diss tracks in the history of hip hop. #drake #kendricklamar #rickross #rapbeef #kendrickdrake

When I was deployed to Iraq, a dude had a wifi network called “Yell Drake sucks for password.” Drake sucks was echoing through the barracks, it was hilarious. You could tell the Drake fans by the way they didn’t quite yell it loud enough. Dude made them repeat it until he believed it.

People who listen to Drake listen to music in a completely different way than people who listen to Kendrick so like Roy said it'll be a big stalemate. I saw people call the Teddy Pendergrass sample in the beginning of euphoria "spoken word jazz music". If you grew up on oldies from being at your grandparents house, what Kendrick does is the epitome of culture. If you didn't, you probably consider it "corny, white people music". The funny part is each group thinks vice versa. And nothing will change how most people feel.

You all completely missed Roy's point. Drake music isn't for "US" (older rap fans). It's for the new school kids who want to hear feelings in their rap. Interesting that Bomani is a "Little brother" dude and hates Drake while Drake said early in his career that Phonte is his favorite rapper...even said that directly to him when they were on a track together ("Think Good thoughts"). He's a backpacker who switched up his style to become more successful. Some who have been familiar with him since those days are always yearning for a return to that lyricism that we only get glimpses of every once in awhile in the "Timestamp raps" ( 8am in Charlotte etc.)
