God Bless you Canada! my 3 kids were at the edge of their chairs when we watch this over Covid lockdown and my eldest said "Daddy why aren't we Canadians". You ARE the jewel of the Commonwealth
What an iconic Canadian institution, makes me a proud Canadian to watch the effort and hard work that this troupe goes through............lovely to watch
Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers. He was a singer songwriter who died far to young back around 1983. You can find the original song somewhere on RU-vid.
+Schmidt London. Excellent video! As such, I have a request for you. I and a small group of Vancouver students are making a short documentary on the RCMP musical ride and after seeing your video I was hoping that you might allow us to use some of the footage here in our film. I can promise you no recompense, since neither I nor the other students will be making a cent from the film, but I can promise that the RCMP will be well represented, and that you will be able to see the finished product. If you are interested, please contact me at hykeru@me.com with due haste. Regardless of your decision, I thank you for supporting our RCMP.
Not their finest performance and the music seemed just a touch off kilter. The arena also seemed very confined but that might be because the camera position was less than optimal. As for 'stealing' regimental history or honours I think that's going a bit far. However, members the Strathconas should be careful about levelling that accusation since they call themselves the 'Royal Canadians', a moniker given to the Leinster Regiment long before the Strathconas came on the scene.
The RCMP claim they did the first musical ride....documented history proves otherwise. It was the Royal Canadian Dragoons that performed the first musical ride in New York. Further the RCMP musical ride is fully paid for and supported by the federal government while the Strathcona Mounted Troop is supported by donations from friends of the Regiment. The only support from the federal government is that the wages of the troops are paid for. I have a difficult time with the RCMP and the manner in which they stole the honour and award of one Sgt Richardson who was awarded the VC for service in South Africa as a serving member of the Strathcona's, not as a member of the NWMP. To mount the vigil at the National War Memorial in Ottawa in memory of Sgt Richardson as a member of the RCMP is nothing short of stealing another Regiments history. I also have a difficult time with the RCMP posting the Vigil at various cenotaphs across the country on Remembrance Day. They're cops. Period. Enough of the revisionist history.
+oldesarge2000 I agree that Sgt. Richardson won his VC while with the Strats and so do the Mounties: www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/news/2015/03/rcmp-stand-sentry-tomb-unknown-soldier. The Mounties never claimed to have the first musical ride, in fact, their history talks about first observing mounted military cavalry performing a ride. Your history is a little off, not quite so revisionist as you suggest. NWMP members did serve in South Africa, some were released, others were given leave and some were seconded to military units. RNWMP sent cavalry squadrons to France and Siberia in WW 1 and formed No. 1 Provost Company (RCMP) with the 1st CDN Division in World War II and served in Sicily, Italy and Northwest Europe. The entire RCMP Air Services and Marine Division transferred all resources to the RCAF and RCN during World War II. They have served in the Balkans (unarmed no less) and in Afghanistan so perhaps, just perhaps they deserve to post the Vigil on Remembrance Day?
Most important of all.... there just could be some English spies...'lurking about' on this channel.....so heads up!...you never know what those rascals will be up to next.
What an epic waste of precious tax dollars. Those funds should be devoted to solving crimes not propaganda to bolster the very tarnished image of one of the most corrupt organizations in Canadian history!
