I was on RC and MSC, and they had no power outlets for my CPAP machine. I had to ask the room Stewart for an extension cord on the RC cruise which went across the middle of the room. On my last MSC cruise in April , I had brought my own. The outlet was on the other side of the bed behind the headboard. They were older ships, and newer ones might have more acomidation. We are going on NCL in Nov. and I will bring my extension cord too.

This could be a deal breaker. I’m visually impaired and need to keep multiple devices charged for audio media. I usually room with someone who is on a laptop a lot in addition to using other devices. Between the 2 of us we need multiple devices charging at the same time. Unless I can be sure there are enough outlets in the cabin the no charger block rule would be a reason to choose a different line. I understand that if it’s a fire hazard they need to ban them, but they also need to join the 21st Century and update the cabins in regard to outlets.

Got off the Symphony today. They took away our multi plug adapter from us. There were three outlets in the cabin. We have a c-pap machine, a medical cooler, and two mobility scooters. We could not plug it all in at night. We had to set an alarm in the middle of the night to unplug one of the scooters and plug the other in. We were able to plug our phones into the two available usb ports. I am sure some of the older ships do not have usb ports.

Crew officer here. RCL is not my cruise line but here goes. Most quick dry docks are what we call C and C. Curtains and carpets. Updating plumbing and electrical is very very expensive and time consuming. On older ships it doesn't make financial sense. It's obvious to me on older ships the cabin wiring is not meant for all this draw nor the electrical generation. It's like Updating an older vehicle. It's not economically viable.
@hollid90
@hollid90 8 дней назад
@burningblue1254 that makes total sense. I think it's just unfortunate that RC is so focused on these mega ships that are limited in ports when they have a lot of older ships that need to be replaced. There is money to make on both ends. I really hope that after these next contracted ships, they start on making smaller ones.
@burningblue1254
@burningblue1254 8 дней назад
@hollid90 a lot of lines including my own are going to larger ships for several reasons. There is more to do on a bigger ship. All these large cruise lines are after the families and multigenerational groups to expand their customer base. Also, there are economies of scale. A higher crew to passenger ratio, one navigation staff, one harbor pilot, same tug service. One ship Registry etc. Etc. One ship does the work of 2. Mind you people think RCL is all about huge ships but the older end of their fleet are midsized as ours are. I am not that familiar withe RCL older ships, do they have North American and European receptacles? If so buy an adapter. I run into this with our older ships because a lot of guest use CPAP machines and we end lending out long extension cords.

One of my son’s is an electrician and he absolutely abhors multi plug extensions. The numbers of people who use them to plug in to power really power hungry items is un believable. On extension cords: A deffective extension cord could cause a fire, so it isn't just the total amount of power you try to draw from one wall outlet. RCL needs to announce whether they are ready to provide passengers with "approved" extension cords and multi-plug adaptors to all passengers who need one. The end result is people wi;ll bring power bricks which present greter danger of fire.

My take on the multi plug outlet situation is exactly what Don said during the video i usually cruise in a family of 3, each guest usually comes with a phone and a tablet onboard and with my many previous experiences with cruise ships like Royal and outlets in staterooms i like many other cruisers always find it difficult to have enough outlets in a stateroom to charge our devices overnight or whenever necessary for the next day and i find that this ban is currently unnecessary and that many cruisers usually bring this onboard to help charge devices quicker. This will directly impact many people especially parents that cruise with little kids in which they need something to keep there attention and people who require a multi plug for medical reasons. Now Royal expects us not to bring this plug and find another alternative to charging our devices during our cruise? I obviously am aware that cruise ships will most likely not stop sailing in order to add more outlets to each stateroom on each cruise as this would not be possible as it would take to much time and inconvenience many people when they are planning a cruise. Many will now have to try to charge each device separately instead of charging multiple devices at the same time with the multi outlet plug. I do understand where Royal is coming from if someone tries to charge to many things at the same time it could be a potential fire hazard but if cruisers are aware of how many devices can be charged at the same time without it being a fire hazard i see no problem with Royal trusting that cruisers wont try to plug in and charge a million devices at the same time in which causes the fire hazard which for most people should be common sense on not plugging in more plugs than your multi plug outlet can handle. I believe it would be beneficial not for Royal to completely ban the use of multi plugs but if they could publish approved and accepted multi outlet plug that will not be confiscated by security before stepping onboard a cruise many people can purchase a multi outlet plug that is right for them without fear of it being taken by security before going onboard your cruise. I really hope Royal rethink's this ban on multi plugs and updates this where it list approved TSA multi plugs and only confiscates multi plugs that are not on the approved list and not multi plugs in general as a whole as many already travel with a multi plugs as part of their necessities in order to have their devices adequately charged accordingly to their size of their party and their stateroom.

Princess has confiscated our UL tagged and certified extension cord several times. We bring it for a C-Pap machine because Princess cabins have so few outlets that the machine cord does not stretch far enough. So the crew brings in a huge orange cord that they have to run and drape on your cabin ceiling, over your bed, across the room to enable a c- pap to run. Charging electronics is challenging. You have to switch devices to charge on the few outkets they have.

The avoiding 2 ports has zero to do with fuel and everything to do with port cost because it cost fuel to sail regardless. Many ships are simply adding more sail days to avoid port costs. I have seen transatlantic that have 8+ sea days before they make one stop, and others on the same route that only have 4-5. The longer sea days also allow them to charge more for the sailing.

If there are no outlets by bed for cpap machine, RCCL needs to address this issue. B

The Donna Summer musical on the Prima was a shortened version of the Broadway show. I thought it was well done. Donna Summer's life story is told by three separate versions of the character playing the singer at separate ages, referred to throughout as Duckling Donna, Disco Donna, and Diva Donna (with two also playing double roles as Donna Summer's mother and daughter respectively).

I use a CPAP and most ships have no outlet near the bed. As such I will not be sailing Royal Caribbean.

RC is concerned with outlets being over loaded with multi outlet plugs. If they're going to ban those then they need to make sure there are enough plugs in the room. It's a fact of life now that for most people they are going to need multiple outlets.

Don, can you let us know ASAP? What kind of surge protector you are allowed to bring on the cruise ships now since Rcl is banning certain ones. If you could show us what to buy that would actually be permitted that would be fantastic also. Send us a link, please, also I noticed you said it was only Rcl that was doing that changeover. But once one ship line starts to do it. I’m sure they will all follow the same thing.

That's a shame about NCL cancelling St. John & St. Pierre. St. John is the nicest port in Canada, St. Pierre is a French territory, so losing those ports is a big loss and significantly hurts the passenger experience. About the outlets, at this point multi-device USB chargers and current adaptors are not banned (so long as they don't have multiple outlets on them), so I'm not sure the change makes a whole lot of difference to most passengers, other than forcing some to get new chargers.

It would make a huge difference for me, and others like me, who use CPAPs. Both my roommate and I used a CPAP on our last cruise, so that’s an outlet each, plus the fact the outlets are too far away from the bed to be of any use. Without the extension cord, neither of us could have used our CPAPs. And that isn’t even dealing with charging our phones…

I'm not discounting that having access to electricity is important, but since RCL already banned extension cords, this new change to policy doesn't really alter your situation all that much. RCL has committed to providing extension cords for medically necessary needs. If you need more outlets, call customer service before your next cruise and reserve it from them.

Those of us that have CPAP machine lot of times need extension cords in order to reach the outlet. I've been on Cruises. Where are room attendant? Try to find a extension. Could plug in my CPAP machine but there was none available. Because so many other people also needed an extension cord. Maybe there is an exception for a medical device. But they shouldn't put that on their website.

I hate that NCL makes changes for those reasons AFTER final payment date. That has happened to me and many others on many different cruises. They seem to choose to wait until payments are going to lose money if they cancel :(

I think the ban on multi-electric was a result of the Conception Dive Boat fire off Santa Barbara that killed 34 people in 2019. Coast Guard investigation found the fire started in the device charging area of that boat. Really don't see this as a problem now that most devices can be fully charged in an hour or so. Not like years ago when devices needed to charge over night.

No, it doesn't mean multiple USB outlets, it means multiple power outlets. The cube multi plugs are ok, they don't want multiple 220/110 volt outlets.

I understand RCCL banning power strips/outlets with surge protection, but it seems like the regular ones should be OK. Of course, I just bought one so we would have what we need on any ship. Well, they need to add more electrical outlets to their ships. We know thats not likely to happen. Lots of people need more outlets than they have on their older ships. If I was a blogger, I would be really unhappy about this.

Another RU-vidr recommended for the plug ban to bring a UK to US converter single plug block and many contain multiple USB charging plugs... he mentioned that might actually be a loophole and be allowed since the wording is unclear and most ships have UK plugs that can take the converter. Might be worth a shot!
