Todays vlog has a bit of a somber tone as the Lovely's arrive at the Phu My Port, located 2 hours outside of Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. After seeing their surroundings and speaking with the staff aboard the Ovation of the Seas, they vent some of their frustrations and complaints that they experience on this day of the cruise.

While yes, it's partially Royal Caribbean's fault, I also think a big part of the problem is Vietnam itself. I've been to Vietnam before, and it's pretty much like what you described. There's a lot of corruption there, even at the airport when Vietnamese residents go in and out, customs officials usually blackmail them to give them money or they cancel their visa etc. I just think that Vietnam isn't that great of a place to go to :\

Hummmm we're doing a cruise next year stopping 2 nights in Vietnam. I guess stopping at the same port. But I thought there was a free 40 minutes shuttle ride to z near by town

I know this is old but you should have done some research. We're going to visit this port this fall, first thing I did when I saw the itinerary was look at the port and a map. You obviously didn't do any prior prep. As far as stuff being closed while in port, thats pretty common for the stores, casino, any non inclusive restaurants or activities so the cruise line don't have to pay the taxes etc of whatever country they are in.And its only about an hour each way, you were exaggerating for dramatic effect.

WOW WOW WOW, Thank you post this vlog. I am been searching to see how people like about the Vietnam port, and I did not think that Royal Caribbean is blind side about Vietnamese people. I have a same though that I wanted to explore our self in the city, instead of short excursion to get you something stupid think. Now I saw your vlog, and I don't thing I am going to do that. I think that I can get a taxi go to the city, and I know it is not 2 hours away. it is about 45 minutes. They are not allow taxi get into the port because local authority wanted to get greedy. They should create cruise terminal right at Saigon river, which is right at the city.

I agree that cruising in Asia on Royal Caribbean is totally different. Comparing how they do it here and in the Caribbean, there was a vast difference, one being the port talks. I had did the same re-positioning cruise a month earlier on the Voyager and can see many similarities like the Shops/ Bars closed, Vietnamese families and the Port location and visa issues that have been plaguing the foreigners ever since they started cruising in Asia. The thing about Asia is that in some countries, the ports are not meant for Cruise ships. In the case of Ho Chi Minh, big ships like the Quantum Class, Freedom, Voyager Class and even ships like Legend are unable to cruise up the Saigon River due to tight space and shallow depth. Only small ships like Seabourn, Azamara are able to do it, however those ships come with a high price. It is not that RCL does not want to bring you straight, but they just can't with their ship size. And in a business sense, they want to make money so yeah. I also agree RCL should inform you about the Visa and Port location. Usually they don't :( I wouldn't recommend tourist to cruise in Asia, but come for a land tour because in cruising, there is that much to see and Cities far away from the Ports where the big ships dock. If you want to cruise in Asia, you will need to do more research. Examples of Ports that are far away and require a 2 hour journey are Bangkok, Vietnam, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

+TheFlynn's Totally different than the Caribbean, for sure! We understand that ship size can limit the ports in which it fits. Cruising in Asia is just such a new concept. We agree and don't believe we will be crushing again in Asia. Instead, we are planning more inland trips. It's good to know other locations that are not as advertised such a Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur. Just wish there was a little more transparency with RC and the destinations.

I come from Hong Kong, The royal Caribbean On Asia has 4 stranded to service customer Most of the crazy will be shanghai china home port season, if you want to get international cruises experience . I recommend you choose departure from Singapore to Hong Kong cruises. This is very good service On the other hand . If you want go to Ho chi ming city . Please do not choose Voyager class. Because it ship body will be weight than quantum class. This will be docked far way and some time the water level not enough will be cancel port

I´m so sorry that you´ve had this experience. Report them to TRIP ADVISOR to protect prospective customers from having similar experiences and yes write to RC the kind of letter they´ll never forget.

Wow, what a horrible experience. On the bright side, this vlog didn't really feel like a vlog. It felt more like a great piece of investigative journalism. Well done! I believe that I would share the life out of it all over Royal Caribbean's social media.

You have the right to complain and you should! This will make Royal a better cruise line and help you provide with even better experiences in the future if you do. So don't feel like you're "bitching" for nothing. I'd rather see the ship anchor off at a more paradise-like place then visiting industrial ports.

+Brandon Chau yeah, that was very obvious. Even customer service said that price was crazy. It was the port agent who dealt that crappy overpriced fee.

Largely in this instance, because we booked a vacation with our hard earned money. When paying a large sum for something, such as a nice family vacation, we feel we have earned the right to voice our opinion.

Cory and Lacey, When a family spends thousands of dollars on a planed cruise, And the cruise company "Royal Caribbean" doesn't answer up to their promises, That is false advertising plain & simple! I just hope that the rest of your cruise is better. Maybe R-C will give you some kind of discount or freebee for the rest of the cruise good luck God Bless.

Wow - Royal Caribbean, you screwed up bigtime!! This family needs a partial refund or credit towards another cruise on a more established route! I hope RC does the right thing and tries to make amends here. I live down the street from the RC port here in Galveston, and we've definitely got a much nicer port district with nearby attractions compared to what we've seen so far in these vlogs! For my first trip to Asia, I got airline tickets from the USA to Singapore with a stopover in Hong Kong, because I knew there'd be a lot to see & do in those cities. For more variety, it was easy to add on sidetrips from Hong Kong over to Macau, and from Singapore over to Malaysia. No visas, everything worked well, no problems. Hong Kong gave me enough exposure to Chinese culture that I'm not really interested in going to mainland China, and Malaysia was just enough exotic, inexpensive but easily accessible Southeast Asia for me. I'd never been interested in seeing Vietnam or Thailand, and I live on a subtropical island so I've got enough sun & beach life. (Plus, half the people who fled Vietnam live here already anyways if you want to try that food!) I'd assumed you really wanted the cruise experience again, but you might have been better off putting your time & money towards flying into 2 or 3 big cities. You live & learn how to do it better next time!

Being a tour operator in Baria Vung Tau I am sorry to hear about your experience to my knowledge cruise ships have now stopped docking in Ho Chi Minh city due to water levels, if Royal Caribbean had done more research for customers then you could of taken tour in Baria Vung Tau Province which is only 25 mins journey from Phu My Port. My tour company "best tours Vung tau" would of collected you for a full days tour from the ship and returned you for a cost of $120 per person, children up to 6 yrs go free, which is a all inclusive package tour including food, drinks, luxury coach with wifi, Baria Vung Tau is historic city with 300 k of beautiful beaches. I would hope if you came again I can be assistants for you, As honest Vietnamese person I am so disappointed to hear taxi's are over charging tourists. Regards Sen of besttoursinvungtau.weebly.com

This is rediculous . I feel very bad for you that the Vietnam ports have been a big disappointment for you after spending $4,000.00 to go on this cruise . Since your home now write & send a letter to RCCL Corporate Office and try & get some money back for being charged $25.00 for each of your children the time they didn't even get off the ship in one of the ports in China . Good luck guys .

OHHHH NO THEY DIDN'T!!!! You should totally call or email Royal Caribbean and complain because that's false advertisement if they told you Ho Chi Minh City and didn't go there. I'd also include the other place you guys thought was crappy in your email/phone call complaint. Also if they don't fix the problem or ignore you for email or phone, I'd keep doing both until you can get a hold of someone higher up. If that doesn't work, twitter always works and they give the quickest response! OMGGG you paid $4000 for this cruise?!!!! What the hell!!! NOPE NOPE. I would definitely cause a scene and want all my money back lol. Also I'd go crazy about them charging the kids when they didn't get off the ship. The $25 wouldn't bother me and I wouldn't care about it but it's the fact that it's just so wrong and needs to be fixed. Well at least now you know next time instead of a cruise, you'll get more for you money if you fly out to a country/city or a few countries/cities (since asia is soooo cheap) and get to enjoy it 100%! You would totally get more for your money that way and see more too!

This is ridiculous I feel very disappointed to Royal Caribbean trying to make false advertisement and failed immigrant safety to the every customer on Royal Caribbean what if a terrorist jump in the Cruise taking hostages I mean this very unacceptable let people from there would let their military family go on broad this is stupid and the Cruise they should take full responsibility for this charging you that your kids didn't go out of China and you paid $4,000 with this vacation another addiction $300 going to Ho Chi Minh City. If I were that next don't ever go this Royal Caribbean vacation again. I mean Carnival Cruise offer better customer satisfaction.

The Lovelys No Problem, it's sucks that you guys Cruise Vacation was a bit disappointed. Next time when you guys heading next vacation try avoid Vietnam ( I don't think they care about public safety) and as well Thailand why? Well my 6th grade teacher she spent one week over there until New Years week she wasn't having a good time after surviving food poisoning and a perfect storm and getting kidnapped scary thing. Also Thailand has too every weekend people died from suicide and car accident and crazy thing happens over there just getting you guys a FYI.

Writing to corporate helps BIG TIME with Royal Caribbean! We went on a cruise and had a couple problems with our reservations and one of our excursions. After getting nowhere with customer service we wrote a letter and sent it to several people at corporate and were contacted within 2 weeks. They not only wanted to get more information to better future cruises (not sure if they listened) but they also issued a HUGE on-board credit for our next cruise. My husband and I feel like RCCL is getting a little too big for their britches and they feel like since they have cornered the market on the "luxury but family friendly experience" that people will just settle. We don't like to bitch a lot, but if it is deserved (as it is in your case) I would totally recommend pursuing some letters to corporate. (Even the corporate email works) You guys are still awesome and are making us laugh. It is refreshing to see that there are other people out there that aren't going to sit around and complain, but instead make the best of the situation! We would have totally hung out at a bar with you guys and complained if we were on your cruise!!!!! HA! P.S. - those military officers and their families on the ship....not gonna lie.....would have totally made me uncomfortable. Royal Caribbean should let people know what is going on while customers are on board, seeing military on-board a ship with no explanation may cause people some worry.

We are going on Harmony of the Seas next month and have already had some MAJOR issues with RC. We are not letting it get in the way of having a great time, but we may start looking at other cruise lines for our future trips. Let me know if you hear back from them after writing them, I would be curious to see if that effort is now going unnoticed as well. Still love your guy's positive spin on everything and love Gibson's strong stance on how he feels about the kid's club! HA! (and empty bars on cruises would immediately make me take pause for concern) :)
