Join me on a little tickle into Derbyshire as I discuss my ownership experience so far.
Accessories that I like and one that I didn't.
My Butterfly brain turns to Harley Riders who don't wave, and Farmers who apparently like to drink Coca Cola.
A light hearted little ride around on the lovely little Classic 350.
Please like, subscribe and comment.
send any pictures of your bike with a few details to
shottostravels@Gmail.com
and I'll pop them on soon.
Ride Safe.👍

As an ex wagon driver I can totally relate to you on the push-irons 😂 and I think that regarding waving it just shows how many people are riding bikes as a fashion statement rather than riding for the love of being on a bike, no matter what size or type, definitely looks better without the screen, all the best buddy 👍

Hello Shotto, I've got a H-D and a Enfield 350 classic (you showed the photos in an earlier episode), yes I do nod or acknowledge other bikers, I find the Power Rangers are the ones who ignore my greetings. A funny wee story, back in 1980 as a new inexperienced rider on my CD175 I was coming off a dual carriageway into a small town a couple of bikes were coming the other way and flashing their lights. The bold me was waving back happy to be acknowledged, only to get stopped at a speed trap a few hundred yards on by the Traffic police, it was a harsh lesson but I soon got to tell the difference between a wave/nod and a warning of what lay ahead. cheers Al

Hi Al. Thanks for your thoughts. I hope you didn't get a ticket. My waving malarchy comments were tongue in cheek, I know it doesn't apply to everyone. I had a Cd175 too, smashing little bike, looked in many ways like my Enfield Ride safe mate. Enjoy your visit to the Ponderosa!😉when you get the chance !

Hi Davey. I had a CD175 in 1980. I think it was a 1972 (K plate). Wish I still had it. It'd be worth a fortune now! Lovely sound from the 360° Twin. Very flexible little unit. It'd be an excellent stablemate to the Classic 350.

Hi Keith, I'd like to help with your scientific experiment, I always wave at other bikers unless I am in a situation that I have to cover the controls. Most here wave back regardless of the bike they are on. Bicyclists over here usually stay to the right when they realize someone is behind them. They do get in their own world sometime. You are right people seem less considerate of other drivers now, I've even caught myself doing it. Lil' Darlin' is helping me to relax and do better with that. The little Classic makes you feel more at ease, no rush! Your bike sounds great, nice video friend!

Morning Keith, yes I nod and sometimes wave and have done so for 40 years of riding. It used to be the case that most fellow motorcyclists did so, but I find response varies. In Europe waves seem more prevalent. In terms of accessories, sump and engine guard both from RE, touring seats, rear rack and panniers, all RE. I intend to tour a bit this summer. Ride safe and enjoy :)😊 oh and I just got a rev counter from Hitchcocks
@shottostravels
@shottostravels 3 месяца назад
Thanks for commenting. Isn't it nice that we can accessories our little bikes at a sensible cost to suit our particular requirements. I did get a report that the RE crash bars will fold like butter on the slightest collision. It happened and the guy replaced them with givi engine bars to give him the protection that he wanted. But then he couldn't fit a sumpguard because they got in the way.🤔 Just a thought, I don't have them fitted as yet. Ride safe mate👍

In America, since riders cross each other on the clutch side, generally wave low (pointing at the white line) with two fingers. This kind of says "two wheels down". Enjoying your videos and keep the shiny side up.

Spicy topic to bring up ! 😁 50 + years of riding and I wave to everyone (even mopeds). I have learned however, to wait for the Harley riders to wave first. Most do not. The originals belong to organized gangs who have, lets say somewhat dubious reputations. A person has to earn membership into their clubs. Today many people think that by buying the horse and dawning the costume they deserve the same respect. Basically buying into a lifestyle. Harley dealerships are more than willing to supply their needs. That is much the same as all manufacturers. Having said all that, I was stopped at a street light on my yellow Meteor last summer when a "real" hog on a hog pulled beside me, smiled and said, "You know you've got a really nice ride there." Re cyclists, I think your country, much like most of Europe, (Netherlands not withstanding), have historic narrow roads built for horse and buggy. Most people do try and share road here in Canada at least. It is those offensive drivers/riders, rather than defensive ones, that we need to wary of. Like most of us say, "ride safe". 🙂

Waves and nods - scientific survey. Impressive sample size Keith 👍😂. Actually, I get more engagement from other bikers with my Classic 350 than many of my other bikes - even from sportsbike riders which is weird. There's no mistaking the Royal Enfield tiger eyes so they know exactly what it is as they pass. I used to have a Kawasaki J300 scooter. It looked a bit like a 1000SX from the front. I used to get nods on that, then as they passed me you could feel they wanted to take the nod back 😂😂

B4 my moto days I rode my bicycle a fair amount and was always told "the biggest one always wins." That could apply to 20 hp motos also. My motos range from 136 down to my now 20 hp. Common sense and respect also apply, especially if you want to stay alive. As to the waving issue, I've have been ignored by more HD's than most other bikes. I think the newer generation aren't aware of the courtesy wave and I wave and hopefully they will pick up on it. My most pleasure comes from waving at all the farmers and wives and always get a waveback. Public Relations for the sport is essential in gaining respect., in my opinion. The 👍👍5🏍🙋‍♂️

Like you I noticed how bad Harley riders were back in the early 1990's when professional type people started to get mid life crisis problems and bought those types of bikes, they were so far up their own backsides trying to look 'bad' that they didn't see other riders. Not all maybe but certainly in the south it seemed like it. Here in Spain those same types riding Harleys don't see other riders was well, don't know why as I try to acknowledged riders whenever I can, back in the UK it was normally a head nod but here its a left arm pointing downwards. In France it seems to be a left leg out, especially if being overtaken. But it's good to acknowledge fellow riders.

Each to their own as they say Keith. After 18 months with it I've just done away with the DNA filter and gone back to the OEM . Why ? Like yourself change the Silencer . And fitted a Punjab short but kept the cat. I find its the OEM silencer that chokes the engine way more than the cat which creates very little back pressure as is basically just a honey comb It sounds way way better without the DNA induction and the 1 hp better with DNA is not a deal breaker for me. After all as you say they aren't road rockets anyhoo. My other bits? sump guard ,rear pegs gone and rear saddle replaced with chrome rack, non peak stainless headlight rim, crash bar, Panniers, and bar end mirrors. FuelX lite will be my last job as I've seen a test and it does as claimed drops the engine temp by 10 degrees. I always wave to learners as without encouragement and new riders biking will die. Safe riding mate👍 Lee

I've always cycled and motorcycled. No one has any patience, and the roads are their preferred arena for combat. Part of the problem is the volume of commercial traffic on the roads, since the end of railways as a common carrier. Lorries, vans, commuters, sightseers, sluggish 350s and even slower bicycles, all competing for the same space. Living in a rural area, if I need a widget I can have it delivered the next day. That is simply unsustainable, if we expect to live in peace with other road users. On the sump guard issue, wouldn't a longer front mud flap be a better solution? Dirt will inevitably find its way behind the guard, which makes engine cleaning a trickier issue.
@shottostravels
@shottostravels 3 месяца назад
Thanks for your comments. Sluggish 350s? Do you own a 350? Have you ridden one? I don't disagree with many of your comments I do think the sumpguard is a better solution, the mudguard fitted as standard to the Enfield is as good as anything out there. I think a mudflap wouldnt look right. Just my view. Ride safe mate, whether that be Cycling or the motorized version 👍
@borderlands6606
@borderlands6606 3 месяца назад
@@shottostravels Yes I own a Classic 350, and the sole topic of conversation on them is they are supposed to be too slow for normal use. I don't find it slow, but I tend to stick to country roads. The point is unless you are riding a sports bikes flat out, there'll be somebody behind urging you to go faster. So it's easier to pull in and let them go past, as you did. Re. the sump guard, it's not a hill I'd die on, but I think of them as an off-road accessory not traditionally used on tourers. Maybe with knobblies it would pass, but people should spend their money where they see fit. Yes, the 350 has longer guards than most, but the majority of bikes have a comedy front "mudguard". On the subject, the Classic could do with a split rear guard, as bikes used to have to make removing the back wheel for punctures a viable operation.

Straight bit of road I usually wave, anything more technical only a nod. If I'm on my Harley I'd say 80% return wave, even some other Harley riders do not as I'm only on a lowly Sportster 🤪. However when I'm on the Bullet almost all other Harley riders return a wave, its the crotch rocket jockeys that blank me then, no logic to it at all.

Interesting topic about different bikes and their riders. It brings to mind a couple of years ago , I live in rural France off the beaten track so when you see a UK registered bike its great to have a bit of bike chat. So I came across 3 Honda Goldwings all with matching trailers, quite simply the most arrogant people you possibly meet who described my Himalayan as a joke noddy bike. Not to long after that came across a couple of Harley riders with huge attitude who politely explained if your bike isn't a Harley it's not worth f**k!!.Later that year I met a retired couple on a 40 year old 200cc vespa owned from new on their way to spend winter in Portugal, wouldn't dream of going on a motorway or doing or more than 100 miles in a day. Wonderful couple. As a footnote I have owned a Goldwing and 3 Harley's in my 50 years of riding so I have nothing against the bikes just the clowns that ride them.
