I made this clip to supplement the end of our road test video, where we ran out of time before I made my closing remarks and demonstrated a hot start. The machine ran very well on the test ride and we even got our hot start, but the engine stopped of it's own accord here and then refused to start, just issuing kickbacks. This is real life, though, so it is part of the story and a look at the points, timing and one of the carbs would be on the cards next. Watch this space! ...

A good idea to post this. As you say, it is real life, a situation many of us will have to deal with and its some consolation to know that it happens to the experts too. This one has been determined to make your life difficult but you'll get it sorted.

Going back to the test ride what can be the causes of hot starting problems? I've had a few old bikes with it and... Well I just accepted it but all these years later I'm intrigued. I clocked dirty points was one, but are there other things that can cause it too? I've enjoyed these videos on the Royal Enfield. Just shows that they all have a reason for being incontinent and it's possible to get them oil tight.

A failure to hot start after a ride is one thing ,but for an engine to hot start & then not hot start ,is a pain in the butt & should be chucked in the cut . ( only kidding ) 👍
