Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Review
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is a retro-style motorcycle designed and manufactured by Royal Enfield. It is part of the company's 650cc twin-cylinder lineup. Here are some key features and information about the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650:
1. Design: The Interceptor 650 features a classic, timeless design inspired by the motorcycles of the 1960s. It has a simple and clean look, with a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, sculpted side panels, and chrome accents. The motorcycle showcases a retro charm while incorporating modern engineering and technology.
2. Engine: The Interceptor 650 is powered by a 648cc, air/oil-cooled, parallel-twin engine. It is known for its smooth and refined performance, delivering a balanced mix of power and torque. The engine is designed to provide strong low-end and mid-range power, making it suitable for both city riding and highway cruising.
3. Performance: The Interceptor 650 offers a relaxed and enjoyable riding experience. The engine delivers ample power for comfortable cruising and occasional spirited riding. It is designed to provide a smooth and linear power delivery, contributing to the motorcycle's user-friendly nature.
4. Handling: The Interceptor 650 features a well-balanced chassis and a comfortable riding position. It offers a neutral and stable handling, making it easy to maneuver through urban traffic and handle twisty roads. The motorcycle typically comes with conventional telescopic front forks and twin coil-over rear shocks for a comfortable ride.
5. Technology and Features: While maintaining a retro appeal, the Interceptor 650 incorporates modern technology and features. It usually includes a dual-pod instrument cluster with an analog speedometer and a digital display for essential information. Some models may offer features like ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and optional upgrades such as a slipper clutch.
6. Customization: The Interceptor 650 is popular among riders who enjoy customizing their motorcycles. Royal Enfield offers a range of genuine accessories, allowing owners to personalize their bikes according to their preferences. Aftermarket options are also widely available, providing opportunities for further customization.
7. Value for Money: The Interceptor 650 is praised for its affordable price point compared to other motorcycles in the 650cc segment. It offers a combination of classic styling, reliable performance, and accessible pricing, making it an attractive option for riders looking for a retro-inspired motorcycle.
It's important to note that specifications and features may vary depending on the specific model year and the market in which the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is sold. It's always recommended to consult Royal Enfield's official website or authorized dealers for the most accurate and up-to-date information about the Interceptor 650 available in your region.

The engine in this bike was designed by ex-Triumph engineers so not surprising it reminds Mr Exeter Rider of a Bonnyville. I've heard it said that this 650 twin is a mirror image of the Bonnyville engine although in a lower state of tune (compression ratio 9.5:1, that was high compression in the 1960s but not now apparently). 47bhp is not too shabby for an air-cooled motor (with some oil cooling assistance).

Really like your review on the RE! Looking to get one in a few months myself. Had a Triumph Bonnie few years back, but took a bad spill, and now I feel my leg has healed up enough to get back on the horse. Really wanted the Triumph T120, but the Enfield looks just as good, and at more than half the price of the T120, it's a no-brainer! I don't need 1200ccs…I just want a nice, classic, ride that I can enjoy the essence of motorcycling, like I used to. And just like my former Bonnie, I'm sure this bike can be set up for some decent touring (did the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia on my Bonnie, and she was brilliant! 2000+ miles on that trip! 😊 ) Again, great review. Like your style of editing, too. The way you break things up on the video (instead of a monotonous reel of continuous riding with voice-over) is definitely a more pleasant way to watch a review, IMO. CHEERS! 👍🏻
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 5 лет назад
Bless you thanks John. I have alot of experience with the t120 and t100. Both are fine but the 120 gets boring because you can't "ride" the bike. Your just tickling the throttle all the time. T100 is better but the enfeild is fun. Looks great and cheap and too be honest I think it's got a better finish. I tried the GT intercepter today which will be up in a few weeks time. Thanks for coming on board 👍🤗

Great review on a great bike. I'm a subber and really enjoyed this review and the one on the Kawasaki W800 cafe. I bought the W800 Street (and love it) but seriously looked at the Interceptor. I'm very pleased with my choice but I think I would have really enjoyed this bike also. In Calgary, Canada the Enfield dealer had too many add-on charges that made the two bikes a similar price (different dealerships). I agree with you about sub 1000cc bikes being more fun than the big ones, you can use the power. I've ridden heavier 1200cc - 1600cc bikes for many years. I've found riding bikes like the Interceptor or W800, that are plenty powerful (probably still more power than I need) but smaller displacement and lighter weight, are more fun and carefree riding. It has been a revolation to me and reminds me of the days, when I was much younger, riding my '73 Honda CB 350. You put it brilliantly when you stated that you can "ride" these bikes rather than just tickling the throttle. Well done!

Nice review! I’m considering one of these as a second bike, and went to look at one in the flesh yesterday. I was offered a test ride which I declined, as I don’t want to fall in love with it before I’ve thought it through. Although it’s in the lower price range it’s still a fair chunk for something that, if I’m honest I don’t really need. I’m coming up with all sorts of excuses to warrant having one though.

Prettier than the black 2010 Bonneville SE that I currently ride. A big yes to the brushed aluminum fuel injector covers matched to a gracefully curved low profile valve cover. If I had to choose a term to describe their style It would be either futuristic or 30s streamlining. The (fake) carburetor look used on my 865 Trumpet never did anything for me. That's as close as I care to come saying something distinctly positive. The upswept exhaust is a work of art. I would really think twice about dropping a good chunk of money to "improve it". Chrome and bright work are nicely accented by the progressive shock's brass gas canister. A second motorcycle isn't in my plans but if I ever got one it might be this bike.

Enjoyed that "virtual trip" on the RE. Would love to get back into bikes but it's been way too long since I used to ride around Surrey. I moved to Australia in '72 and haven't ridden since. Out of curiosity I took a look at the CMS website to check the price and compared to a local dealer here in Adelaide and the price isn't much different. The price here is $9790 which is around 5465 pounds. Not much more than the 5299 pounds on the CMS site. At 71 I'm not sure I would feel comfortable riding on today's busier roads though.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 5 лет назад
Hi Paul. Well I see what you mean with the busier Roads but do you know what...... As with anything in life the thought of riding one will is worse than actually doing it. The RE is easy to ride and I reckon its actually something you want. So I think you should buy one if finances allow. Life's to sort and you will be grinning ear to ear everytime you open the garage . It will be the best thing you done in years, all the best. E. R

I wonder if you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts on a comparison with your test ride on the Bullet considering they are such different bikes. The Bullet seems to be traditional fun and the Interceptor a more modern retro, what are your thoughts about the differences in the ride, are they too far apart to even consider? Consumption is 4.2 Liter per 100km which is ok but not low. The twin Engine runs like a pussycat but still have some character. Beware of the service cost! The 500km service requires head off valve adjustment !!! It is an easy to ride bike although it is not as comfortable on long rides as it looks my dear! Price is relative ... for 1000 bucks more you get an excellent and low mileage Japanese or Italien middleweight bike . But surely not the same classic look. Makes you feel riding in the sixties. It is obvious that their chief engineer used to work at triumph before.

Mate i had a honda vt750s which required valve adjustment at first service. I was well pissed off. Not like it was a 120bhp hotrod. My Z900 didnt need it. No other bike ive ever ridden needed it. Whats their justification for charging for the privilege?

exeter rider - have you not fancied taking a Moto Guzzi v7 III for a spin? I understand they are quite well made and have the advantage of a shaft drive whilst being similar weight. You can find them in Exeter at SP Motorcycles, the official Moto Guzzi dealership for the South West. Exeter, Devon. EX2 8QR.

@@petewebb6952 yes Pete, I have contacted them and they are not intrested in me riding and reviewing they're guzzis or KTMs which to me is crazy when they will get more sales from it. Just dosent make sense but that's up to them but it's frustrating for me 😣

Do you mean it sounds/feels like the old T100 or the new one? Because for the new one you’d be correct. The old one was a 360° crank and thrummed more than chugged.

For a beginner, would you choose the RE 650 or the RE 350 ? Is the 650 a good touring bike ? Is the 350 better on the country toads ?

The Interceptor has one HUGE NEGATIVE ... alloy wheels to run tubeless tires are not available for it. They ARE available for their Bullet line so RE has NO EXCUSE. If alloy wheels are not made available, and soon, I will be selling my Interceptor and buying a Triumph.

Hi Jim, in over 30 years of continuous road riding i have never had a puncture on any bike. So lets keep this in perspective. Have roadside RAC cover or whatever for piece of mind by all means. If you do mega miles on a big tourer then maybe its more of a problem but IMHO the Interceptor is not really that sort of bike is it?

Triumph are so stupid to not be making a bike like this, or even a modern version of the 500 Daytona twin, America would lap it up, Triumph are now too expensive, too heavy, and too complicated, with less rider involvement, a simple 500 that's light, and quick with the Triumph name on the tank, America would be all over it, more so older riders and our Lady freinds. Anyway good test, thanks, and well done RE, at least someone makes something different.
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 4 года назад
Yeap I totally agree with you. For years I said Triumph should make a retro that was 650 a bit like the old days with the BSAs etc and then this came out and stole the show. The triumphs are great but like you say they are heavy and I find a bit clinical. Thanks for watching. E. R

@@exeterrider Can't wait. I really like real motorcycle reviews which shows me the area too. I'm familiar with motorcycles. There is not so much to talk about. You know what you see. The question is reliability of the machine but this is not given in 99% of the vid anyway. So I watch this reviews and like to see the countryside too. A sight seeing tour on the side if you will. The reliability of such a bike is rare to find in the internet. The most reviews are from 1-2 hour test drives and the tester mostly don't even own the bike, sometimes they are not even familiar what s/he is testing. Example. There was a lady testing the suzi C40 Boulevard, complaining the cycle barely make 75 mph on the Hwy and didn't know the bike had a 5th gear. It's too often like to judge a airline by visiting a airport. However. Thank you to take the time to make this videos which I enjoy and big Thanx for responding thereafter. I thought I subscribe (what I rarely do) and may be I catch your island tour on a bike.

Royal Enfield spend a ton of money to make youtube-videos happen. Advertising that appears to be independent is so far the best approach to sales. I have no Idea about Royal Enfield. In motorcycle clubs, the stories are endless and not so positive. However the bike looks good, sounds good and will find many buyers. The price point here in the US is, were Honda Rebel 500, Yamaha 07, Suzuki SV 650 etc or other bikes in that category is. We talking about couple dollars back and for that depending on the dealer could be easy equalized. Calling the Enfield dealer in Dallas and listening to the Interceptor 650 is 6199 +TAX plus destination+Title...... well for such a price tag I don't need to go to Dallas. Then I look here around. There are Japanese dealers on mass around. My down side on the Royal Enfield, since I don't know anything about it besides all the so called independent youtube advert vids is, that there are no dealers. The next Enfield dealer is about 120 miles away and the second one is about 180 miles away. And not only this, whomever drove through the traffic in Dallas or Houston on a Sunday loose very fast the urge to check the Enfield out. Just imagine, there is a problem with the bike (it is a machine after all) and you have to haul that thing for hours and hours to a dealer. At least here where I live is therefore Enfield not in the picture. I have Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki, BMW, Triumph dealers right here close by But Enfierld, where on earth is a Enfield dealer?
@exeterrider
@exeterrider 5 лет назад
Good post Herr, Yes I agree with all you said. RU-vid independents are essential for sales. Many dealers don't understand the power of it also. I know of at least 5 bike sales that have come off the back of my reviews but my local Zero dealer for example and even KTM dealer don't want to know - to me that's nut's!!!!!!! Yes Royal Enfeild in the UK have a good dealer search system and they are normally 50 miles apart in general but many patches of the UK are not covered.. I nearly bought a KTM at one point but at the time the dealer was 80 miles away so didn't bother. Thanks for commenting. E.R

You get a three year warranty and three year breakdown cover in the uk and we have a reasonable amount of dealers, surely one of the local dealerships will take them on if they get popular, they are outselling all the competition here.
