CBC report on the royal family's visit to Canada in 1976, to watch Princess Anne compete in the Montreal Olympics. I wish we could hear what they were saying! Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
Elizabeth always seemed to exude pride in Anne. Anne was copy and paste of her mother. She was probably such a safe place for the queen in a world of men.
Very nice. Brings back memories. I attended the 1976 Summer Olympics, and happened to be in the stands at a men's volleyball game - if memory serves, between South Korea and Poland - when the Queen and her security entourage walked in! The game stopped, everyone stood until she was seated, and all of the players walked over to get a look at her. She stayed awhile before exiting, at which point she was again the focus of interest in the arena until she'd left the building.
I was a 15 year old kid living half a block from the Paul Sauve arena where the volleyball was held and that day I walked to see if the mini-golf next to the arena was open. As it wasn’t I walked to cross the street to go to the adjacent park but stopped at the very edge of the sidewalk as motorcycles went by slowly and turned right in front of me and then the limo with the Queen. So close and slow I could have touched her car door window.
