@@ConsumerTechReview hi, i was just wondering, your keyboard does not have a wire in it when you open it up? is it bluetooth? also does this mean I can foam mod it because it must be battery? pls reply
I modded my White RGB RK61 last night which was already pretty darn quiet. I purchased foam for under the plate, Durock stabilizers and lube, and some keycaps (not those suggested, which are now almost are almost $100 CAD!). I didn't bother with the switches - the reds I have - which apparently are Kalih - are perfectly fine (read: quiet) for me. To my (pleasant) surprise, there was already closed cell foam between the plate and PCB, and open cell foam on the underside too. I put some layers of painters tape on the underside to dampen the noise a little more, but left the area around the battery alone. I also put foam on the PCB where the switches go. No problems with fit. I didn't bother lubing my switches, but put O-rings on the keycap stems to help with the sound for bottoming out. Very happy with the results.
I would also mention that unless you don’t care much about the RGB you should go for a switch that is clear or at least has a cutout or is milky so it shines through
@happylenny Yeah, but lets be real, most of the RGB value (or backlights of any kind) comes from the shinethrough for typing in the dark. this model in particular is really good for this as a budget board, because it has per-key lighting effects that trigger on keypresses. You can tell live whether a key activated properly or not, whether you made a typo without even looking at the screen, hell, on the right setting, it's practically a whole GUI of it's own.
I essentialy did the same stuff. I even had the same felt but got gateron yellows and a different set of keycaps. this is a nice guide and a good video. one thing though: you don't have to cut that much of the felt to make it fit. The whole part for the spacebar can stay, you just need to cut the small tabs.
Wow what a difference! I have a RKg68 65% and it came with Gateron browns. I upgraded the stabilizers, lubed them, added the Purple Pandas and lubed them . I added a few pieces of foam and this thing came out amazing! It wasnt too bad as far as difficulty but it was worth the 3 hours that it took! Awesome video and thanks for all the help!
Did not realise how long this would take 🤣 got mine today and its taken me over an hour just to do the stabilisers, the switches are gonna be fun 🥴😂 great video tho man appreciate it :)
Awesome video 🥰🤩🏆🤯! Great to see a complete mod video rather then many which show the regular switch & keycaps only. I would love to see a convert wired to wireless video 🥰🥰🥰👍
I just got this board about two weeks ago and they have made improvements to this board. They include a very thin piece of base foam and they added a pretty decent piece of plate foam. I swapped out my switches for pre lubed gateron yellow 3.0 and some PBT keycaps. Great video with some easy mods to improve the sound signature!
Why don't you just order a barebones kit then? The gmk67 is 35 dollars and comes with plate foam, pcb foam, and base foam. It also has very well lubed stabilizers, and a volume knob. And it is gasket mounted and south facing. It also has a polycarbonate plate and is compatible with screw in stabilizers, like durocks. Any other plastic keyboard is a waste of money, since the gmk67 sounds really good after tape mod no matter what switches you use.
awesome video ! completely new to keyboards so i planned to get the rk61 and mod it later and ur video is just right to help me with everything! thanks !
Dude rk must have really took there time making this keyboard better I just got one and I had one a few years back and same switch's but I can tell you stock comes with the foam lubed stabilizers and just sounds amazing
@@ConsumerTechReview i just got mine today after watching your review. Love it so far, but ur vids have inspired me to mod it. Kinda wanna see how good it gets
Love how the key ape are more expensive than the actual keyboard😂😂😂 Edit:And now I kinda want this keyboard cause it’s a budget keyboard and you can put a lot of mods on it
I've been into keyboard for awhile and my very first and only keyboard broke a little while ago, I'm trying to buy this but my parents just won't let me,when I do get this I'll make sure and try to get everything i can to upgrade my board to make it good :)
maybe you can try the o ring gasket mount, I tried it on my RK68 and put some foam in it and now it sounds miles better than stock, now I'm just waiting for the krytox 205g0 and akko rose reds to arrive :)
im gonna use this for later, right now my keyboard sounds really scratchy so im gonna foam mod it and buy some lubed switches (im too lazy to lube them myself). Thank you!
Ik this is like late biut for those who see this, I would reccomend gummy oring mounting this for the best sounds and it adds flex. Just cut the usd c port well enough to make it look good lmao.
It sounds so freaking good i swear and it even looks so good that it made me lube my brown switches with Vaseline🤫 i dint have lube ginan mod the soon thx for the help
is the EVA foam heatresistent? I have the RK61 with bluetooth and 2.4GHz so there is a battery in it and I`m worried, that the EVA might catch fire if the battery gets too hot
@@Alex-du4eq yeah sorry late reply but uhm yeah about keyboards im not that kind of a person that could buy keyboards or have money so i only can get like a budget keyboard to be my dreams and which in this case Its the Rk61 and i think all the videos or reviews ive seen are pretty good to this keyboard (rk61) but i see a lot of this called modding or putting some stuffs in there keyboards to be better? I think so like im confused why do they need to do it.. and why can't just the keyboard makers just make like a keyboard that is modded? Like the rk61 like should i not buy it? Is it really bad to not mod it? Like cant i just buy a mechanical keyboard and just really have a difference to my last ones .. do i really have to modd it or stuff just to improve my keyboard?.... So yeah im just confused cuz i really think rk61 is my go to for sure but is it really bad so they mod it? Thanks for responses..
@@user-uglycrier You definitely don't need to mod it ot enjoy it. You can simply buy, use it and enjoy it. Modding is a hobby and people only do it to improve the sound of the keyboard but if you like how the keybaord sounds stock then you don't have to mod it. Its really about personal preference and wanting to make it sound a certain way. The reason why it doesn't come modded is because that's not the intention of the company, people simply mod it to make it sound "better", but like I said, its about personal preference.
Hey man I was thinking about changing the playe on my RK61 what plate would you recommend? im changing it because the color is stuck on blue because I bought the wrong one.. now im thinking about upgrading it instead of buying one
I just got this in the mail today. I tried connect via blue tooth and via wire connection and it won’t connect. With a wired connection it shows on my Bluetooth devices on pc, but still won’t type. Any ideas?
Hi Consumer Tech Review, Im thinking of getting this keyboard for my birthday, however Ive seen some bad reviews on Amazon indicating that the keyboard stopped working and that some had come with bad stabilizers, so I need your opinion on this, have you had any issues with your keeb Im really curious. Eaither way great video, keep it up :D
The process with the medical tape and the dieletric grease for the stabilizers is just for the sound or is it to prevent power spillage and short circuit?
Yoooo @Glarses just made a video with Tubbo with the same switches! I didn’t doubt ur judgment but I can’t wait to do this mod when I get my first keyboard (which is the royal kludge rk61)
Quick question would it make a difference using silicone or would foam be better? For my other keyboards I’ve used silicone base but cant find a vid for it for this keyboard.
Hi I have just got my rk61 is it ok to just change the key caps and what do you do about the key caps that do double duty can you buy key caps with double duty sign’s on them, this is my first mechanical keyboard it’s the white rgb board and I would just like to give it a bit of extra color. Thank you for your help and advice.
im a bit new to this whole keyboard modding thing so i was just a but confused. For the rk61 isnt there a ribbon cable that i should be pulling out before i take it out of the pcb? or is there no ribbon cable.
i recommend not using cherry keycaps for the rk61 because you will get interference with the 3rd and 4th row it ruins the sound and typing experience, get OEM keycaps instead
