During the DSA 2024, the Royal Malaysian Navy showcased a scale model of STM's Ada-class corvette as the Littoral Mission Ship - LMS Batch 2. Naval News' Xavier Vavasseur and Tayfun Ozberk discusses the Turkish corvette's Malaysian configuration .
Based the model of the MİLGEM corvette showcased at the Malaysian Navy's booth, the dimensions of the corvette for Malaysia seem the same as the Turkish counterpart. While there are some configuration adjustments, the design appears to adhere closely to the proven Ada-class corvette blueprint.
Notably, the primary difference in the LMS Batch 2 Corvette lies in its integration of air defence missiles. Plans entail outfitting the ship with air defense missiles, housed in 2x2-cell Vertical Launch Systems (VLSs) situated in the aft mast area of the vessel. Information gathered by Naval News at the exhibition indicates that the selected air defence missile for LMS Batch 2 is the Haegung (which means "Sea Bow", or Korean Surface-to-Anti Air Missile (K-SAAM), manufactured by the South Korean company Lig NEX1. With these missiles arranged in a quad-pack configuration, a total of 16 Haegung Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAAMs) will be onboard.

It is not. LCS is larger. Its primary feature is modular mission equipment which enable the ships to be used for various mission profiles. But later this feature turned out to be costly and ineffective, causing the US Navy to halt the project and dispose of the comissioned ships.

Let's hope all the ships are built in Türkiye. Better to received ready-made ships rather than building it here in Malaysia. May be send the technical / engineering team to Türkiye under their strict supervision the Malaysian will learn more and participate in their working culture. 1) 1st ship - Learning and observation phase 2) 2nd ship -Working under strict supervision 3) 3rd ship -Fully built by Malaysian and the approval by Türkiye engineers. Ultimately is to learn how Türkiye managed and tight control their budget. This looks simple but very critical to deliver the ship(s) within timeline and budget. Integrity and honesty are paramount qualities.

You gotta start from somewhere, when we first start building Ada corvettes it took a long time. But now we built them with ease and even larger ships, you get faster and more efficient as you build more of them. STM for sure would send engineers and both assist and inspect Malaysian building process. We aren't a superpower you know which can build hundreds of these ships so establishing good relations is better for us than try to benefit from sales. Malaysian ship building sector might develop fast and you would sell us ships in future with a discount hopefully lol. Also even another world war might happen then we all would need production and building capacity everywhere. So it makes more sense for us to share both technology and knowledge with all our brothers..

Oh please STM don't built in boustead shipyard. A big NO!! They're already full with the LCS & backlog. Built it in Istanbul shipyard!! That's interesting to know that the RMN chose the CENK radar over the Smart S. I guess it is better? Which type of south korean sam they choose? Ksam or Msam?

Bad idea to have the ships built locally, as we have learned from the LCS fiasco, our local shipyards cannot be trusted with handling strategic assets, better to built all of them overseas for now. We should only consider building these ships locally once 5 or so vessels have been aqcuired from Turkey, our naval force has been severely degraded due to the delays of the LCS, never let it happen again. Edit: to the commentor who replied under my comment, unfortunately youtube has removed your response so i cant call you out personally, but please go back to school and learn proper manners, calling people idiot will get you nowhere in life. I understand Malaysia has other shipyards that can build and deliver the navy's future ships, the issue now is TIME! right now TLDM only has 4 surface missile ships and 2 submarines to defend our large nation, you seriously want to bet we can finish these much needed ships in time?! I never said I was against building these ships locally, the issue now is TIME...which we are running out of. As our mother tongue says "Masa itu emas." Foreign shipyards have a much better time building warships quickly than we do, also there's less of a chance at corruption going local, which is what led to the LCS being delayed in the first place. As for the ships we've built for UAE, mind you those are patrol boats, not warships with sophisticated weapon systems, radars and other stuff that YOU don't have a clue about, so of course we could build them on time and deliver them on time, anyone can, but to build warships, that takes time and skill. Enough said, lets build these ships overseas, and once there is enough for a squadron or two, then we can build them locally
@Balangair1
@Balangair1 4 месяца назад
This is a dumb comment coming from a guy who probably isn't conversant in shipbuilding news. Do you know there are yards there in Malaysia building seagoing ships for foreign navies? This is not a hoax, as UAE has to date commissioned 5 warships including LSTs and training vessels from Shin Yang of Miri, Sarawak. Do you see the dumbness of getting Lunas idiots to build warships besmirching the reputation of the shipbuilding industry in Malaysia? The idiots are there, in Lumut ... not in Sabah or Sarawak shipyards!
@syedputra5955
@syedputra5955 3 месяца назад
There are other local shipyards apart from lumut that can build these ships. Mostly in Sarawak and sabah. They have built huge offshore vessels for export.
@MDin5001

Yes, it is for the best for Malaysia to received completely built unit. Do not build here in Malaysia. It will be a delay and waste of money. The cost will be in billions, so it is so attractive to those walks in the power of corridors. Loophole existed especially in procurements process and approval that attracted personal gain for certain people like the infamous LCS cases. Malay proverb "Takkan pisang berbuah dua kali?" From ex-TUDM

@@syedputra5955I understand sir but the problem now is TLDM lacks combat vessels, because of old age and the expensive price to maintain older ships, majority of our navy's missile fleet has been stripped of their weapons, I know because I follow closely on the developments of our armed forces via local defence blogs, so now TLDM only has KD Lekiu/Jebat, KD Lekir/Kasturi and our two PM submarines to defend our large nation. Now is not the time to build ships in Malaysia, let's wait until the navy has enough vessels then we can continue building the rest locally, TLDM plans to have around 61 ships, why can't we let Turkiye or other foreign shipyards build say 12 ships for us now and finish the rest locally? Btw Sir my edited comment is not targeted towards you, another rude fellow left a nasty response but it seems RU-vid has removed it, I hope there is no misunderstanding😅
@mustafrickadoodle7872
@mustafrickadoodle7872 Месяц назад
@@MDin5001agreed sir, this is the safest and fastest way our navy can get new ships, those damned sharks can't catch a bite when a foreign shipyard is involved. May God bless our armed forces and may the govt continue to give them the necessary funding to modernize rapidly, the world is becoming increasingly unpredictable, we need to be prepared. As President Roosevelt once said, "speak softly, but carry a big stick" diplomacy is great, but we need teeth to ensure our side wins.
