Brits do not label certain monarchs as " the Great" but she is exactly. And if perchance she does surpass Louis XIV at beyond 72 years she would deserve that title, imo.

I'm from the US and like many I'm fascinated with the royal family but as well as they dress and go out of their way to greet the public what is their purpose? Do they influence politicians? Do they change or make laws? When they go on royal tours to Jamaica for example, besides photo ops and hand shakes what are they possibly doing or talking about for eight days? Making chocolate or visting a maternal ward shouldn't warrant celebrity like treatment and millions of dollars to cover their lifestyle. Kate looks like she is having the time of her life everything she ever wanted she got (the man, kids, looks, weight, slim figure, kids, designer clothes, servants catering to your every whim including bouncy hair, royal status, free travel in exchange for a sweet smile and a three minute speech). But still what is the purpose?

In the last ten years, it has returned 1.4 billion pounds sterling to society. In its thousand-year history, the Monarchy has suffered one major hiccup. In the seventeenth century, Oliver Cromwell tried to establish a republic. It lasted for ten years before the Monarchy was restored. I hope that this answers at least some of your questions, however inadequately.

HM recovered from COVID, so there is no alarm. I think we are all just going to have to get used to seeing her only seldomly. She is nearly 96. I predict she will likely start to have Charles or the Lord Chancellor represent her at the State Opening of Parliament. It's just a fact of life, because she was appearing all over the place back in October, which is when she sprang her back, so she knows she has to reduce appearances as much as she can. I am sure she will attend various ceremonies in June for her Platinum Jubilee, and certainly the balcony appearance at Buckingham Palace.

I think she will not ever leave Windsor again. I know she regards it as her favorite residence so it makes sense that would be her chosen last home. Though I think someone could come up with a mobility device she would be comfortable riding on, if for no other reason than so she can walk her dogs.

I’ve always admired how seriously she takes her duty; how she just quietly goes about her work, behind the scenes rather than “look at me!”. FutureCEO Monarchs have their own reign, they know they will not live, when the Queen was young she knew her main duty was was to marry and provide an heir and they prepare the heir to be a Monarch and she is proud of Charles they are also involved in the planning of their funeral and they know the Monarchy is not about one Monarch we have had over 40 and our Monarchy is over one thousand years old and she does not want to be the last. duty and service mean as much to Charles as they do to the Queen

Then there was the death of Phillip and now the health issues of William's Grandmother. I know when you see the death of a parent or grandparents it hits home how vulnerable your own parents life can be.
