Daniel Neer I haven't watched/read FMA in a long time, so I don't remember if that's how it worked, but that sounds logical. That would also suggest that Spider-Man wouldn't have been able to fix the typewriter anyway because he didn't know about typewriters either, at least not easily.

Frankly, even if they're not animated, I'd love some more and longer stuff like this; also props to you on a couple of counts, #1) GMs who run games besides D&D are always awesome, GMs who run other systems more often than they run D&D are gold-dust and as somebody who takes every opportunity to play less commonly played systems, I love anybody who runs them. #2) I believe that the old adage, "If something needs to happen, don't lock it behind rolls; if something needs to not happen, take every reasonable path to prevent it." Is good advice but anybody who can adapt despite that and keep the story going is similarly amazing, so good job!
@kdawg3484
@kdawg3484 5 лет назад
Can't say how much I appreciate that you actually allowed the players to go completely off the rails from your intended story path. That's the thing about tabletop games that different from everything else: the GM and the players are creating the story together. A good GM has to be aware that the players may not act in the way he's hoping they will, and that that's ok, and he's got to adjust. You let the whole initial plot hook get bypassed by your players and managed to adjust and run with it. And the story was just as interesting, and everyone had fun. Being railroaded through a predetermined story makes players disengaged. In one of the two campaigns I'm currently playing in (which is a completely homebrew campaign), all of us just accepted that we have no choice in where we go and who we fight, because our DM was so keen to keep us following the story, meeting the NPCs, and fighting the bosses that he'd put all this work into. And our characters eventually mostly just started saying, "Okay, we don't have a choice but to go forward and see what happens next, so we might as well just get on with it." Even if it made little sense to them. Currently, we've all pretty much locked up on feeling no compelling reason to proceed forward in the direction our DM has clearly planned for us. To his credit, he's starting to offer some alternate paths, but we still know where we're eventually going to end up. You let the players play their characters how they felt they should, even if it mucked up your plans. And you cleverly adjusted the main plot in a believable way and even created side stories and encounters to keep your players interested and enrich the overall setting. And, most importantly, you just let it go when they went in a different direction instead of shoving it down their throats. That's top-class GMing, and you should be proud.

Oh, and regarding the resistance: have you heard the story of a japanese WWII soldier named Onoda Hirō that kept fighting until 1974, long after the war was over? He hid in the forest after most of his company was wiped out and couldn't believe that they lost the war. He and his other comrads started attacking villages, burning rice fields and such, always retreating back to their hideout in the woods, all guerilla style. He just couldn't believe the war was over and thought it was all propaganda, until the government found his old captain (who had become a bookseller), brought him to Onada and he told Onada "it's over, go home". Then he finally started believing. After spending almost 30 years in the forest.

Awesome Campaign dude, I hope you manage to get that one back together, it sounds absolutely epic, the Players seem to be your average "wreck everything" type, which sounds bad, but is actually the best type, because they're not the "regular" thinkers, they don't have a "standard" approach, it's really good for your creativity. Additionally, you can use just random encounters peppered with Lore, RNG the stuff if you need to, as long as things simply keep moving, you are going to be capable of for the most part just letting the story play it's self :) the Players seem to be interested in the Data Disk, and it sounds like they're heading for the Cage Plot first, they're touching base on a bunch of stuff, which is good, since it's providing them something to do once they're done with Iron Fist

Awesome story... what everyone would like to have is a one hour or more of a story about a adventuring that would go from the start of the adventure to its final conclusion or ending to finish. The reason is easy. 1. you are a good story teller. 2. hearing about a random adventure and the way it turns out is very entertaining. 3. No one else is doing this. So you would have every ones ears.

I really want more of these videos, dude! They're really interesting-- especially as someone who doesn't get the chance to play often, since you describe everything so well that I can put myself in your worlds. It's fun!

This needs to get animated. I get that it's not easy, and we, as fans, have no right to ask it, but it's just so much fun....I can't help it. I still liked the video though.

This and the first version of the Deadlands video are some of my favourite Puffin Forest Videos. Leaving the animation behind and focusing on the story and music he’s able to really convey the story and world. That said I very much enjoy Ben’s usual videos as they’re extremely easy to just watch when I feel like. They are also a very easy way to get new viewers as even people who don’t play TTRPGs might just watch and enjoy if they see his videos in recommended.

I really like both sides, the animated videos are great to watch with people who don't typically play tabletops. But this long one was great to hear how things progressed and your solutions to random character chooses. Super helpful for DMs! Keep up the awesome work, favorite dnd story teller!

I like stories, yours are not bad. I like your stories. Longer isn't better or worse, it's all perspective. NEW is what's hot, I've never heard this story so I want to hear it. I ran into a Chadwick Strongpants in a co-op FPS I was playing and I blame you; except it was so much fun and now we're friends. KEEP IT UP and holler if you need a cheerleader. You rock!
